Don't worry subby, eventually she'll be fired for a *completely unrelated* work issue later on in her career, say in about 6 - 8 months.

More power to this lady, need more people who are willing to stand up and expose fraud.

Arcturus72: I agree with everyone else who's said it... Why the Fark is she still coming to work in an obviously hostile environment? Hell, she has a case for taking them back to court over the even more hostile atmosphere the company is making for her...

If it were me, I'd find out just how much vacation time I could go on, and then use it...

She doesn't even have a bird in the hand yet, let alone two in bush. You don't quit your job because you THINK you're about to get money. There could be challenges and other crap to tie that money up for years. That's a lot of ramen if you quit your job too soon.

Elin Baklid-Kunz is set to get close to a $21 million settlement for their lawsuit that alerted the justice department about issues at Halifax Health.

Why is she even still sticking around? I would be out of there so fast it would make their heads spin. Her sticking around now is nothing more than peacocking.

What's being communicated to the employees is that I'm the reason why we may have layoffs, and why we have to pay all of this money, and that's just really surprising to me

What did she think they were going to tell the employees?" Well we have to lay you off because we got caught breaking the law and have to pay all types of fines and settlements". Hell no. She should have known they were going to informally make sure that every employee knows that they blame her for the reason for the layoffs, and most of them are going to believe them, and some of them may even go after her. So her life there is over.

Yeah, I'm not sure why she's surprised that the hospital is blaming the layoffs on her settlement deal.

The real problem is that they can no longer defraud people for $20 million per year.

I doubt she plans to stay after she gets her multimillions. I'm sure she'll be heartbroken to go.

mongbiohazard: kudayta: mongbiohazard: DeathByGeekSquad: You're right, she should've just bypassed everything and released full patient records along with billing information to prove fraud.  It's the transparent release of information that counts, not how it's done!

Instead how about releasing that information to a responsible party, say a respected journalist or a lawyer, who could vet the information and only release what's important so they wouldn't accidentally reveal any patient confidential information with a mass document dump but the whistle would still be blown.

That would still violate HIPAA

I was assuming he was alluding to another, recent, famous leakier...

That was also blatantly illegal.

WTF am I missing here? She's getting at least seven figures. If I were in her place, nobody in that hospital, or possibly even that state, would ever see hide nor hair of me again.

/ would happily trade a middle-management career for a life of leisure far, far away from there

She doesn't care about the money. Her lawyers tell her to shut her yap until they get their contingency fee.
