lilyspad: sherpa18: professional_vampire: Why is it that with the rest of a king size bed to choose from, Cracker Jack has to curl up right where my feet should be?! Silly kitteh!

(((HUGS)))

I tell myself this everytime one of the clowder does something that annoys/inconveniences/mildly injures or just plain hits me the wrong way when I'm having a really bad day.

This is why the little shiats darlings can just about get away with murder and are spoiled rotten.
Too aware of the fact that I don't know how much of their time I will have and that I will miss them and all their antics...even the annoying ones so very, very much.

I didn't know this with my first cat Jasmine (she was with me for nearly 18 years...over half of my life at that time).
Oh, I 'knew' it intellectually- "I will miss her when she's gone"...but not the way you know it after their passing and there is that immense HOLE in your universe and heart where there used to be a cat (or loved one of your choice).

It's fortunate that critters don't (for the most part) speak our dialect of Hoomin.
Can you imagine them throwing this up to you (and they would, they're smart enough!) everytime they do something they shouldn'ta oughta and you get mad and they know they're in trouble now?

"You'll be SO SORRY you treated me this way when I'm gone!"

We needed raincoats yesterday.  There was some massive rain here in Tampa.  Today it is beautiful!  It means I will be able to take my 3 or 4 mile walk this afternoon for exercise.   I am sure I will hear it from my doctor tomorrow "you have to lose weight".  I eat right, just need to exercise.  sigh

Not trying to steal your thunder,  tigerose, but you..in particular..and the night's progession in general..inspired me..

Has been a looooooong time since I had  a go at poetry..used t'be good 'nuff at it..was published thrice..

This, tho'..?  Each stanza feels internally consistent..but the whole is rather clunky, to my brain..  Still, is what I've got and the overall feel of it honestly gets me emotional..at my own writing..feel kind'a guilty when that happens..

..should'a thought to take the pic afore my stupid footprints, leading to the woodpile, messed up what started these words percolating in m'brain..my bad..

Coming Home

Dark night
Cold night
Warmer than the last

Spring encroaching
Winter fading
Snow departing fast

Winter angers, will not go
Storm sweeps in and sleet starts falling
Grass replaced by snow

Wake in darkness
House is chill
To the woodpile I depart

Jacket on and torch in hand
I step into the night
Unbroken whitefall greets me, all is smooth and stark

But there before me
Breaking smooth snow
What is this I see..?

A beeline, kitty paw-prints
Heading home
Coming to me..

Wings

My heart sings,
For I have wings.

For your love for me.
I am now set free.

Waft above the mortal coil.
Watching mankind toil.

Sending love,
Love from above.

Balm to your soul.

I hear your grief,
Our time together
Brief.

Lament not,
Your soul I sought.

You bathed me in light,
Ever in your sight.

We were one,
Yet now are done.

Know that I await.
At the Pearly Gate.

When fate,
Does my heart's wish sate.

And we shall enter in,
Flick of tail,
And a grin.

Snow fall

I do not know why I am so energized
By the storm.

Wind tickling the chimes,
Herald the snow fall.

Trees wearing scarves of white,
Trailing to the floor below.

Silence,
But for the wind's soft
Sigh.

The snow rains down,
In horizontal sheets.

Coating all,
In clothes of brilliant light.

Snuggling close
To the foundations,
Of our lives.

Here I sit,
Basking in the warmth,
Of friends and family.

Throw another log on the fire
Of our love for one another.

Come,
Warm yourself.

You will
Always be,

Well Come.

CrankyAndi: Cat question,,,,

I just noticed that Ellie is limping.  So I checked her toes.  One of her feet is VERY sensitive.  It is still pink and she can curl it, all good signs.  She got REALLY upset when I touched one nail.  it looked like it was bruised, it isn't bleeding and it wasn't bleeding.

Is it possible that during a fight with Louie (he is an ass) this morning that she pulled the nail?

She has a vet appointment on Tuesday, does this warrant going to the vet tomorrow (I do not like the vet in the office tomorrow, my vet will be back on Tuesday).  I don't like her hurting!!!

I will check her in the morning and get an appointment if I have to.    I hate that my little princess is hurting!

Is it possible that she bruised her toes?

Sophie pulled a nail when she was younger. She was playing around when she was a kitten and fell off the couch, but she managed to hang on by one of her nails and ended up breaking it. Kind of like with people, it grows back, but is sensitive until it does. As for what the vet said, if it was bleeding, and is currently not bleeding, you should be ok. Just make sure the litter box has clean litter if it was cracked or if she did bleed at one point.

I think you should be ok until Tuesday. Just give her lots of easy ways to climb places that she normally visits (favorite chairs or beds) so she doesn't have to jump. Definitely mention it to the vet.

it is made of an old horse shoe and some kind of burr. It took some effort to make and must have been useful at some time. I made a very short video of it http://youtu.be/HtmMqRaIsL8. I have many ideas but I don't think any of them are correct.

I vote comb for wool. Tie off the fiber to something and then you could roll that thing through it. It would also work for felting wool me thinks.

They seem undecided on the issue!

John Buck 41, I think it may have some use in food prep, I thought it could be used to poke holes in crackers for baking, or to tenderize meat. It may have been used to prep some kind of nut or seed too. Some of the folk out here eat cactus and my store sells a big torch called a pear burner. It is used to burn the needles off of cactus so the cattle can eat them when the pasture is down in the late winter. This tool may have been used to help 'peel' a cactus.

But I knew that the power of Caturday would come through with knowledge when I needed it.  Y'all are fabuloso.

Since my doc prescribed the liquid, I'll give that a go, and if its not a success I'll see about pills and getting them dispensed at my pharmacy....  The idiot cat is closing in on 16, so I know every year is a gift at this point, but I'd like to keep him around as long as possible....

ProcrastinationStation: Update on the mobile vet experiment:  Worked so very much better than a trip in the car!  Buster the wimp still tried to turn into a puma, but vet had a very cool cat restraint bag so he couldn't flail.  She managed to take blood without needing to sedate him.  All told, far less stressful on me and the ol' man (and at $50 for a home visit, slightly cheaper than the vet vet).

Results: Buster, at 15 1/2 has hyperthyroid.  She's recommended a medication that starts with M twice a day.  Said the cost "isn't too bad".  Anyone have any insight?  (Other option the iodide, which Im not thinking to do... )  Meds can be flavored and are liquid to be squeezed onto his food.

Im hopeless at pics, but there's a Pic of Buster the tailless wonder in my profile.....

My cat Pushkin (almost 15) has been on them for about 3 years now, though he takes a pill form. Initially we had to give them to him twice a day, but he's down to just once a day now. They've made a remarkable difference and I don't think I'd have Pushkin with me now if it weren't for them. He was getting really scrawny and frail before the meds, now he runs around like the maniac he is, and people (including the new vet) often think he's at most half his age. Good luck!

ProcrastinationStation: Oh, and the vet said that the radioactive iodide treatment is like $2,000.00.... and since I paid just a bit more than that in December '12 to have his stupid broken tail amputated, and she said he has to be on the meds before they will do the iodide treatment anyway, Im gonna stick with the meds for a couple months and see if that puts him on an even keel..

When I was giving Chloe her thyroid meds I had them formulate them so that 1/4 of a chew was the right dose. She was an amazingly easy-going kitty & she would sit up & beg for a treat. I just stuck the 1/4 chew onto one of her treats & gave it to her after a couple of regular treats. She was such a little sweetheart. She would just sit patiently on my lap when I had to give her sub-q fluids too.

Good luck with your little guy & keep us posted. :)

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Diocletian's Last Cabbage: lajimi: [i236.photobucket.com image 592x474] (beer bewbs and pussy describe Fark)

Yeah, but the bewbs would have to be flat, the lady built like a 12yo, and studman69 would be poking his face in from knee height making a comment about not hitting them.

Holy fark, I've been so scarce lately I'd forgotten all about that dude. He hasn't been pummeled to death by a horde of highly irritated wimmens yet? He kinda reminds me of my dad's boss when his wife wasn't around. All we need now is a gorgor photoshop and someone to hit the right level of blasphemy to summon Bevets and I'd be forced to go look...

[i.chzbgr.com image 500x360]

OOOPS!  Almost furgot!  If it REALLY was Fark, at least 33% of the posts would be devoted to how awful that beer is, and that the only beer allowed should be 'Old Whaler's Pee' Limited Addition microbrew, craftbrewed from genuine walrus tusks with a rare form of arctic boysenberry to give it a heady fruity (or fruity head?) taste and 5 TIMES the hops of the major label beers!

mousiebelle: It's been an interesting week.  I think... I've been in a bit of a haze.  The doc decided to put me on a med to try to get my headaches under control (not working so far) and it's making me sleepy/fuzzy pretty much all day and night.  Had a lot more to do at work this week, but I don't really remember doing a whole lot of it.  Been trying to help the guy get info on our website and FB page with the new audio/video additions to our shop.  Also fighting disability determination stuffs.  Blargh.

But Lars and Cassie have been excellent helpers with all processes involved when I've been at home, particularly when it comes to putting heat on my back or trying to sleep.  I haven't been able to get any good pics (read: not so blurry you can't see it's a cat) of Cassie, but I got a couple of Lars the other day...

FARKING FLICKR CHANGED THEIR SITE AGAIN!!!! Argh!  I just got used to the way it was working.  Now I have to figure it out again!  Now I'm not sure how to resize the pic before posting it to Fark.... dammit!  I'll screw with it and then post in a bit.  **Grumble**

Tape a deep breath and take your time, mousie.  I'm sure it will all work out.  We are always here when the eGizmos deign to allow us to post.  Don't be lime me and lose your cool (not to mention your spelling ability) because the machines are being dificult.

Have a lolcat to cheer you up...

syzygy whizz: Hello everyboddeee!

 ^-^
='.'=

Bless me, Caturday, for I have farked up...kinda.
Have made a discovery...it is not a good idea to substitute booze for your pain meds...
even if you're out of them and hurting like a m-fer.

Seems I lack the "OK, that's QUITE enough" switch. Had more than was good for me, and fell.
Needed to use my Red Button to summon assistance...dear gods, that was so embarrassing.
Nice people, burly, strong and mighty...got me up with (seemingly) no more trouble than a sack of potatoes...
but next day I'm paying for it. Found a couple HOLYFARKTHATHURTS places..weren't sure if it was just bruises or "Shiat...these are injuries that I'll have to take seriously (read: to the doc).
Took a couple days to learn to move around them with only a wince or hiss (as opposed to a yelp).

Add to my list of dislikes: "Feeling hungover, fragile, in pain, alone and scared...how badly have I farked things up THIS time?"

Not too badly, I don't think...and I've kept to my 1800 calories or less diet. The problem was forcing myself to actually eat something...just not interested.
But (say it along with me, dieters!) "If you don't eat, your body goes into starvation mode and grabs and stores as fat every single calorie it can pull out of the air rather than burning it."

Pharmacy opens at 9A, and friend is playing delivery service.
Help me get through the night, 'K?

...and as far as I know, there's still a damn mouse running loose around the house.

It's OK, a few indescretions are allowable.  They OUGHT to be, the rate I make 'em!

For future reference?  You might want to try 7-stepping it.  My personal, unscientific drinking style...

1) Eat something greasy, like an order of fries or slice of pizza.  The grease will coat the stomach lining, slowing the absorbtion rate.

2) Do not mix your drinks.  Stay consistent.

3) Keep hydrated.  For every 2 ounces of alcohol drink 8 ounces water.

4) Pace yourself.  Drink 2 or 3 drinks an hour.  DON'T drink like a teenage frat boy.

5) Rehydrate yourself the next day.  I recommend Poweraide.  Like Gatorade with the addition of B-complexes in the drink.  B vitamins will knock a hangover on its ass.

6) Go bananas.  The pottasium content in a banana is also good for the morning after.

7) Get toasted.  Slightly burnt toast will add carbon to your system and act like a charcoal filter.

Again, this is just my own, internet-verified method for drinking for pleasure while keeping your wits further into the evening and keeping your cookies further into the next morning.

Happy berfday, Alien!
The only way this really fits with anything is that it made me laugh like a loony-toon the first time I heard it...and it still makes me giggle or at the very least, gives me a smile.
Good thing the cats seem to enjoy it, as I inflict it upon them at least daily...

A Shoggoth on the Roof: "Tentacles!"

If what ran through your mind was the title of a rather famous Broadway production and movie...and one of its more well-known numbers...yep, you're going in the right direction.

Thanks to all yez for the handpatting, kleenex offered, and "Don't feel alone, BTDT" offered.
I don't feelz quite so uniquely stoopy now...

Hi evabuddy!

Finally getting enough oxygen to say something.   Flu has been tenacious.  Three effing weeks... nothing but koff-koff-koff!  Hourly cat-scans and scritches have been very helpful, though, and all are now well.

The memorial for my friend was a somber event, but full of celebration and song.  As always, she was the life of the party. :)

Happiest of Birthdays to AlienDandelion.

And  Sherpa18, hang in there, friend.  RL can be sooooo exhausting.  Take care, and absorb Caturday energy as often as you can.

akimbotoo: Real Women Drink Akvavit: Sooooooo, yesterday late afternoon I decided to make blondies. I used to make those all the time, but since I am losing weight (halfway trying to, anyway), have not had one in a while. I also decided that they needed to be crammed full of stuff, which I never do with blondies, because why mess with awesome like that? I made them with toasted macadamias, white chocolate chips, shredded coconut and diced up pineapple. I just had one for my breakfast and they are delishus. I am very pleased with myself even if it wore me out so much I had a hard time making dinner and left the kitchen a mess. Totally worth it.

[media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com image 660x495]

Yum! Those sound wonderful! I have been craving Samosas & other Indian delights so I made some Samosas for dinner last night. I cheat & use eggroll skins instead of making them the old school way. The whole house still smells of the wonderful curry powder I made last weekend to put into the Samosas. We may have to have them again over the weekend!

That's not cheating, that's doing it quickly and efficiently! I do a version of baked samosas using spring roll wrappers. Actually, the last time I made them they quickly fell victim to my "whatever the hell I want to put in there" strategy of cookin' stuff and came out more like empanadas, but only because of the seasonings I used. I basically just cut everything up small, wrapped them in the rice spring roll wrappers, hit them with a little cooking spray (olive oil in a refillable pump sprayer thingie) and baked them. They turned out crisp, light and very pretty because you can see all the little cubes of stuff in there. Also, from a "shut your pie hole, fatty" standpoint, much lower in fat and calories than either the traditional samosa or the empanada.

Heh. You ever see one of those commercials or ads for some sort of spray deodorizer that promises to "eliminate cooking odors" and wonder what dafuq those people are doing to their food? I've never walked into my home, smelled my food and thought it was a terrible smell that must be eliminated before launching into a chemical warfare style attack on it. EVER. If something like that happened to me, I sure as hell wouldn't call it "dinner" and eat it.

I am totally convinced that Hector and Fishy have become buddies. Hector will lay on the laptop and lay his head against the fish tank and Fishy will come over and check him out. He'll swim away, then come back and move up and down against the glass where Hector is, kind of like inviting him to play. Hector has even twitched his ear when Fishy is near it. He must see the movement because there is no way he can feel it (I don't think).

This is typical:
