Hai guise! I slept a LOT last night! My mom woke up at her usual time and I was not awake. The coffee pot had not been turned on (!!!) and the newspaper had not been brought inside. The Gogh Beastie was frantically weaving between her feet and screaming at her. Cats were lined up outside, staring at her through the sliding glass door with a mixture pleading and menace. She thought I had died in my lair in the middle of the night. She then remembered that I had said I hadn't felt well in weeks last time she saw me so decided if I had died, there was no rush. If I had not, I would be upset she woke me up. So she sat down and had coffee and she and Gogh read the paper together. It only took me 44 years, but I finally have her trained not to bother me if I'm sleeping in. YAY!!!

I still feel crappy, but at least I am well rested. :-p

Sooooooo, yesterday late afternoon I decided to make blondies. I used to make those all the time, but since I am losing weight (halfway trying to, anyway), have not had one in a while. I also decided that they needed to be crammed full of stuff, which I never do with blondies, because why mess with awesome like that? I made them with toasted macadamias, white chocolate chips, shredded coconut and diced up pineapple. I just had one for my breakfast and they are delishus. I am very pleased with myself even if it wore me out so much I had a hard time making dinner and left the kitchen a mess. Totally worth it.

sherpa18: akimbotoo: sherpa18: *sneaks in* As most of you know, I've been busy scrambling trying to pack stuff and move on with life, so I probably will once again not be around much this week  - but I had to pop in to let everyone know that my little white boy is back home with me at last...And my vet rocks --- check out what they did for me..And then they sent me this awesome card - / i miss him so much

That was so very sweet of your vet to do that. Please keep us posted if we can help. (((((((HUGS)))))))

Thanks... meanwhile, I never did get around to announcing the winner of the Dragon caption contest I started a couple of weeks ago due to RL kicking me in the ass ... so, better late than never, this one was my absolute favorite (and ripped my tiny little heart out) .... I so hope it was true....

Sweet Sherpa, you silly! It ripped my heart but it was supposed to make yours grow like the Grinches did because I absolutely positively unquestionably know that it WAS true.

Yum! Those sound wonderful! I have been craving Samosas & other Indian delights so I made some Samosas for dinner last night. I cheat & use eggroll skins instead of making them the old school way. The whole house still smells of the wonderful curry powder I made last weekend to put into the Samosas. We may have to have them again over the weekend!

tigerose: Just got back from Eli's well cat/ senior check. Wow, he is 12 yrs old! I looked up his adoption papers, and he was 9-10 months old. Kinda hard to tell, he was feral. Very aggressive, he had been returned to the shelter once.

Anyway, he is healthy, 12 lbs. (!) and has a bit of tarter. But the vet said alot less than what she would expect for his age. They never give me grief over his indoor/ outdoor lifestyle. I think they understand how being out relieves his pent up crazies. And I grossed out the vet by talking aabout Eli peeling the chipmunk...:)

Go Eli! Long may you peel (but don't make your mom watch, 'K?)
My Sainted Vet and various local pet store sell Suzies' Tartar liquid (always makes me think of a certain smiling dorkopotamus when I see the label)...just put it in their water dish.

Last year, I took Riktor (who will also be 12 this year!) in to get his teeth cleaned. Nothing major, but I'd read so many stories of furkids whose various problems got traced back to bad teeth...figured "Let's just head that off at the pass and not even go there!"
They took some bloodwork to make sure he was able for general anaesthesia (it requires they be sedated for the process, and Riktor is getting kitty-AARP literature).
How time goes by...this was the little black kitten who my old Alpha Cat adopted as his apprentice and informed (INFORMED!) me that he would be joining the household and would I please make the necessary arrangements...who got the sobriquet "Purry Boy" because all I had to do was make eye contact with him and he'd start purring...whose name describes the strength of his purr...('Richter' + 'temblor'...it just kinda worked...not to mention made spelling easier for the Sainted Vets)...

Wished I had my camera to hand this morning...south ends of 3 northward-looking cats, all snugged up so they'd fit on the long pillow I'd placed on the window ledge precisely for this sort of thing.
The Ninjas of the Oreo Clowder (Raven, Wimsey, and Riktor), peacefully 'reading the paper' (looking out the window). Makes me happy when stuff I set up for their benefit and pleasure does what's intended....

I am totally convinced that Hector and Fishy have become buddies. Hector will lay on the laptop and lay his head against the fish tank and Fishy will come over and check him out. He'll swim away, then come back and move up and down against the glass where Hector is, kind of like inviting him to play. Hector has even twitched his ear when Fishy is near it. He must see the movement because there is no way he can feel it (I don't think).

This is typical:

That's not cheating, that's doing it quickly and efficiently! I do a version of baked samosas using spring roll wrappers. Actually, the last time I made them they quickly fell victim to my "whatever the hell I want to put in there" strategy of cookin' stuff and came out more like empanadas, but only because of the seasonings I used. I basically just cut everything up small, wrapped them in the rice spring roll wrappers, hit them with a little cooking spray (olive oil in a refillable pump sprayer thingie) and baked them. They turned out crisp, light and very pretty because you can see all the little cubes of stuff in there. Also, from a "shut your pie hole, fatty" standpoint, much lower in fat and calories than either the traditional samosa or the empanada.

Heh. You ever see one of those commercials or ads for some sort of spray deodorizer that promises to "eliminate cooking odors" and wonder what dafuq those people are doing to their food? I've never walked into my home, smelled my food and thought it was a terrible smell that must be eliminated before launching into a chemical warfare style attack on it. EVER. If something like that happened to me, I sure as hell wouldn't call it "dinner" and eat it.

That is how I do them too! I agree about those stupid commercials. I love the way there will be a little pocket of lovely dinner smell in a corner of a room so you can enjoy it again. :D I figure that the people who need those silly sprays must either not be very good cooks, or cook fish a lot or something.

Sherpa
I think they were quite creative with Dragon's memorial.
I know how you must have felt the first time seeing it.
I was the exact same way when I got a call saying the vet
had something for me from Ben Hurr.
And I know Benner's was attached to it because Gremlin reacted every time I brought it out.

I used to live by these Desi girls, and I LOVED it when their moms would come to visit. You'd see all these women wrapped in beautiful Saris and I'd yell at my ex "I WILL NOT COOK TONIGHT WE WILL STAND OUTSIDE, BREATHE DEEP AND LOOK SAD!" and sure nuff, a few hours later you'd smell the most lovelicious smells EVER and not too long after that, there'd be a knock at my door and some nice lady would hand me neatly packaged food. Ohhhh thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! OMNOMNOMNOM

I was so sad when they moved out and we got white trash lady and her three kids and rotating roster of boyfriends. That was an interesting first meeting. *knock knock* "Hi, can I borrow a cigarette?" Ten minutes later *knock knock* "Hi, can I borrow a cup of sugar?' *kid holding her leg and shrieking at full volume swings at me and tries to run in my apartment* TWO minutes later *knock knock* "Sorry, do you have any Kool Aid? Oh. Could you just keep an eye on my apartment while I go to my boyfriend's house and ask him for money to go to the store? He doesn't like my kids"
