The Spurs have a serious chance of running the table for the rest of the regular season.

Could definitely be 26 in a row.

Subby, no one was watching the Sixers lose 25 straight. Not even Sixers fans.

I have a theory that the only "fans" to enter the Wells Fargo Center to watch the Sixers do whatever it is they have been doing have been receiving free tickets to attend.  And with the news that the draft class this year looks to be one of the weakest in recent memory, someone on the team has been mentioning to the media that the team's get better plan might require it tank for the 2014-15 season.  At which point, the only people in the arena will be people the players mug on the way to the arena.

Either give every team a single ping-pong ball, or start the draft with the top record that didn't make the playoffs, and proceed in descending win percentage order (then the playoff teams select in traditional order).

Did everyone change their mind recently? It's been one of the most vociferous narratives of the year that this is a super deep awesome draft class.

But there's been a lot of fascinating things happening with the Cowboys and Lakers! How could we pay attention to the Spurs?

This was exactly why the ping pong ball method was started and has failed. As a Spurs fan, grateful for Robinson, Elliot, and Duncan.  Especially Duncan, but he should have been playing for the Celtics.

Austin Daye had 22 points against the 76ers on Monday.  He has a total of 36 points in 13 games on the season.  That's how bad the 76ers are.

And, in the meantime, the eight seed in the West would be the three seed in the East in the playoffs. Dear Lord Mlmighty the Eastern Conference in the NBA sucks harder than a Subic Bay whore.

Yawn.

A bunch of pituitary cases running around putting a ball into a hoop which is barely out of reach of their fingertips while the referees protect them from being touched by the "defense". Oh yes, they do this in sneakers on a dry floor.

Put these troglodytes on ice with sticks and allow full body contact. No time outs. No 3-point line. No dunks. No sudden game stoppages while they allow a player to take a foul shot. Seriously, how is basketball even entertaining?

Sixers had to do this after the Bynum fiasco. Lost Iguodala, Nick Vucevic, and two first rounders for 0 games of Bynum and Jason Richardson's corpse tied to a shiat contract. That team was going nowhere fast with the Turner, Hawes, Jrue Holiday, and Thad Young lineup.

The sixers played the good soldier and tried to field a contender every year, only to get stuck in 7th/8th seed hell every year after Iverson left. There's no other way to build a real contender and get out of that cycle of mediocrity, where you can't draft a real star since you pick too late and you can't attract top free agents since you're not appealing enough no matter how much cash you offer. So finally it had to come to this.

Without question this was coming, it's only amusing they arguably played over their heads to start the season before that "wait, what are we doing actually treading water in the standings?" light came on in their head and magically they've hit  a "slump" at the right time.

I certainly don't fault the tanking decision. Only weird part of this is just how many 2nd round picks they've stockpiled through trades. I don't they were able to add many future 1st round selections, but they could literally draft an entire team in 2014 & 2015 alone in the second rounds.

The Spurs have 4, but some bitter fans don't give them credit for the strike season. Oddly enough, you don't seem to hear the same thing about the Heat and their lockout season title.

Unbelievable, isn't it?!

In other NBA news, the Nets-Bobcats game last night was one of the most fun games I've watched in a while.  Anyone questioning the Jefferson pickup in FA should take a look at that crowd.

I've heard a few justifications as to why they loaded up on that many 2nds.

First is that's basically all he could get for the expiring deals of Turner and Hawes. So rather than lose them to free agency take what you can get. And the other 2nds cost nothing to acquire except taking on some salary cap (Eric Maynor, Byron Mullens, Danny Granger), which they were under the cap floor anyway so why not.

Second is the logic that teams at the bottom of the first don't want their picks. A first rounder gets a guaranteed contract, a 2nd rounder doesn't, so trade back a couple picks from end of the first to beginning of the 2nd to save a little cap space.

Third is a dumbass trade Doug Collins made his last year right after the Bynum trade. He gave up a lottery protected future first to the Heat on draft night that year to take Arnett Moultrie, who is so good he got demoted by this Sixers team to the D League multiple times. So the Sixers either have to give up their first round pick next year if they make the playoffs, or a 2nd round pick in 2016 and 2017 if they don't. Hence the hoarding of extra 2nds to make up for that.

Which word is that the Sixers might tank again next year because of that trade. Save your 2015 first round pick, get another lottery player, then spend your crazy cap space on that sweet 2015 free agent class.

Many of the Spurs haters have found a juicier target in the Heat, but Spurs fans still have a massive inferiority complex.

Anyone notice the Hawks have lost 5 in a row and are only 1 1/2 games up on NY?

Anyone think they are thinking a lottery ticket is better than a 0-4 series against the Pacers?

I mean, I understand people thinking really bad teams like the 6ers are trying to fail to get the most lottery balls, but, the 6ers were going to be a lottery team anyway.  The bigger "tanking" issue I see is with the mediocre last few slots of the east.... Charlotte, and especially Atlanta, can't see much upside in being a first round punching bag for the Pacers & Heat.... the teams in the 7th-10th slots are the one's I am watching to see if they are trying to make "failing" moves.

If the NBA wants to fix anything with the draft lottery, it should be that the 9th & 10th place teams in each conference aren't eligible for the lottery, they get whatever order they finished in... at least then that keeps the teams "close" from trying to "drop out".   Also, consider, although unlikely, the 9th place team in the Western conference, who already has a team good enough to most likely finish at least 10 games above .500... could get one of the top 3 draft picks.   So, what is the point of the draft again?

Horford, Korver, and Antic are injured. In that five game losing streak, they've lost to 3 playoff teams (PHX, PDX, and TOR), a team with a better record than them (MIN), and a team with Anthony Davis on it (NOP). It's not like they really have a choice to win or lose right now; their remaining players just aren't good enough. I mean, the Hawks are starting Shelvin Mack and a 35 year old Elton Brand at this point. And I love Elton Brand, but HE'S THIRTY-FIVE.

Elton Brand had probably the stupidest NBA nickname I've heard while he was a Sixer. The Old School Chevy.
