The show has been pretty damn good so far.

/Miffed that I don't get the HD version of the El Rey Network.

Decision was made in less than 15 minutes.

Is it good? I watched an extended trailer that apart from the one dude channeling Clooney every now and then revealed nothing interesting about the show. I did think that one dude would be good at Clooney impressions at parties.

I did the cable cutting thing, so I went the iTunes Season Pass route. Apparently, there are very few people who actually get the HD version of El Rey.

I'm also a massive fan of the original movie (not so much on the sequels) and I was pretty much preparing for the worst with this show. I've been extremely pleasantly surprised with how damn good the show has been. I just wonder if things are going to change once they get to the Titty Twister in regards to which characters get offed (Richie, I'm looking at you).

I like it, it has some interesting side stories.  It's not Breaking Bad by any means, but it's entertaining.

It's really quite good. They're doing a massive expansion of the mythology, for lack of a better term, of the characters. Seth Gecko (the Clooney character) is more or less the same guy, but Richard Gecko (the Tarantino character) is being presented very differently. The vampires are not being held back for the second half of the story this time and Richie isn't so much a paranoid schizophrenic, like in the film, as much as he's a scary smart guy (like possibly somewhere on the autism spectrum) whose mind is being manipulated by Santanico Pandamonium for reasons unknown. There's a lot of suggestion that the Geckos and the Fuller family are being brought together by Santanico for a reason.

Too bad the show sucks monkey wang.

Rodriguez says they've got a story that can last forever.  At the SXSW panel he said they've bounced off ideas that would play better in season five than it would if they used it now.

And yeah, I'm thrilled to have El Ray because this show is awesome.  It's very loyal to the movie while expanding it perfectly.  Also, they air Dolemite.

I like it so far. I'm a little upset that it's not available all at once through Netflix but then it's not exactly only their show.

I also like the fact Richie isn't just all out crazy but is being possessed or manipulated like you say.

I dunno if I even have the El Ray network. Keep on seeing stuff about it.

It's interesting the vampires are not being held back, because the decidedly meh part of the trailer I saw was... no vampires.

(It's Richard Rodriguez, so I really wanted to like it...)

Anyway, thanks, I'll look for it at all the usual sites. :)

Hey, if The Following can be renewed, and then renewed again, jebus what that says...

Did they find someone with a large enough head to fit into Tarantino's role?

I'd like more hot vampire girl action and less woman brutalization.

I'd check it out if I got El Rey (only Time Warner and DirectTV in this neighbor at the moment, it seems), but I think I'd be more stoked for Flying Five Finger Thursday if I got El Rey.

Is this a Geico insurance spin-off? Certainly seems to have worked better than that Caveman fiasco

Only lasted halfway through the first episode. I found it boring as crap.

That said - more Robert Rodriguez is a good thing.

It's on demand by network in CA. Solid start on first 2 episodes. The SD choppiness is a little annoying, but authentic for grindhouse type stuff. Still, a better love story than Twilight.
