Despite Ted being a living example of Poe's Law, I'm honestly wondering whether some small-town columnists poorly labeled parody is behind this. The source article appears to be this, and he's on the editorial page, but he doesn't seem to be regularly playing Dave Barry; contrariwise, if it's real it would seem an astoundingly silly "NO U" from Nugent -- even relative to his usual shenanigans.

while i quite like stranglehold and great white buffalo... i dislike ted because he's a colossal asshole and a draft-dodging pedophile.

"Stranglehold" is a great rock song, and Uncle Teddy is a really good rock guitar player, with a classic, signature-70s tone.  "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Wango Tango" and whatnot are just on the wrong side of the "double v. single entendre" divide, however, and his whole schtick just wore thin.

Alice Cooper, however: there's a showman from the 70s to behold.

I've recently come to the conclusion that I've had Ted all wrong.

He's not an ignorant asshole.  He's just an asshole.  And he's playing both Teabaggers and liberal haters better than his songs.  He's just riding the wave of attention.  It's more attention than he's received in decades.  A troll, par excellence.  A poor man's Rush Limbaugh.

I'm beyond hating him.  I've moved on to just trying to ignore him.

As for hating his music, I think the real reasons are self-evident.  It just plain sucks.

I'll exclude Stranglehold, but this works for every other song the moron has written or performed on.

Pretty much where I am.  He's like Paris Hilton or a Kardashian: if we'd ignore him, he'd go away.

"High Enough" was a very good song for the 80s, and his lead part is solid.  It is so very, very, very stuck there in the 80s, of course, and the video was completely ridiculous.  Patton Oswalt covers it pretty well (the DY portion start at 1:25).

Wait, what's this? I have never before heard the assertion that Ted Nugent is draft dodger and a pedophile.

If you have a citation for the claim that Ted Nugent is draft dodger and a pedophile, I would appreciate you providing said proof that Ted Nugent is draft dodger and a pedophile.

I find it odd that the right wing moron machine goes on about Saul Alinsky.

Freedom Foundation hands out Rules for Radicals to Tea Partiers to show them how to organise.

Given how stupid Nugent is, I'm giving all positive credit for Damn Yankees to Tommy Shaw.

This is an odd response because just the other day, when it was first announced that they were not having him perform, his spokesperson said that "the Longview event was never on the singer's calendar and that he did not know anything about it."

Maybe you were too young to remember, but his band "Damn Yankees" did pretty darned well in the late 1980's and maybe the early 1990's. He brought in the guitarist from Styx.

Diogenes: As for hating his music, I think the real reasons are self-evident. It just plain sucks.

I have nothing else to add to that.

Hey guys, are we talking about  THE Ted Nugent, the man who shiat his pants to avoid the draft when his country called for him to serve, bragged about it, slept with a 12 and 15 year old while exalting conservative morals, and then later chickenhawked and called for the murder of the setting US President and the violent overthrow of the US Government to violate the constitution?

That man?

I always think of them as an '80s band, yet there they are in 1990. Still, Damn Yankees had the staying power of leg warmers and British Knights.

well as far as the draft dodging, nugent himself proudly claimed in an interview that he shiat his pants to get a 4F deferment. he now claims that he got a student deferment because he "did not want to get [his] ass blown off in Vietnam."

either way, he dodged the draft.

as far as pedophile goes, he fell in love with a teenage girl, becoming her guardian so he could legally fark her.

That song was in super heavy rotation on MTV when I was in high school, I remember it like it was yesterday.

"I hear from reliable sources that the mayor is a racist and was offended that my band performs mostly African-American-influenced music"

ok, I get that rock and roll started out as "black people music" prior to Elvis.  But it kind of evolved into a white people thing by the time Nugent came along.

I am not one to wish violence upon people, even those I dislike intensely, but when Ted doe shuffle off the mortal coil, I really hope it's the result of him accidentally shooting himself because the schadenfreude would be glorious.

I hate Ted Nugent but I like one of his albums.

upload.wikimedia.org

Somehow, songs like "Lady Luck" betray a non-reliance on superstition and "The Great White Buffalo" is about conservation. Themes, that apparently are anathema to Ted post 74.

Is this what happens to rock stars who don't do drugs?

2014-03-27 04:17:51 PM
Back in high school, I played the Cat Scratch Fever album non-stop for about 6 months. Also, the Free For All album was pretty good.  Then the punk and hardcore scenes happened and I stopped listening to Ted, except when he'd guest DJ on a Detroit station. He was so bizarre that it was entertaining, kind of Howard Stern-ish before Howard was big. Ted dropped off the map for a while, then found an audience while extolling the virtues of taking your kids hunting so they wouldn't do drugs. It wasn't crazy until he got political, and the crazier his views got the more he thought people were listening to him. That snowballed to where we are now.

He's a crazy person who is getting attention so he says even crazier shiat. It's a weird, crazy loop.

If you use the word "legendary" to describe yourself or anything that you do,  you're probably a gigantic narcissistic asshat. The only exception is farts. You can call a fart legendary without being a total tool.

Is a Ted Nugent headline an automatic greenlight?  Seriously, why do we keep giving this assbag publicity?  He's a political Kardashian.  And nowhere near as nice to look at.
