That's just farking stupid.

Spelling has certainly gone out the window, Subby; perhaps he has a point.

/not really

Crabtree fails to address the evidence that one of the major selective pressures for human intelligence appears to be that one leading causes of death for humans is other humans, making intelligence (or at least, certain components) even more important when living in a social environment.

Ham, on the other hand, is merely a willfully ignorant whacko.

2014-03-27 02:24:27 PM
This Ham is dried out and unappealing.

2014-03-27 02:29:12 PM
No, it's declining because of anti-intellectuals like you, Mr. Ham.

I'm pretty sure it's that crap you kids call music that's causing your brains to rot.

2014-03-27 03:45:29 PM
He is not intelligent enough to understand that the world can't be 6,000-years-old? He must sin A LOT.

2014-03-27 03:52:05 PM
According to the bible, human intelligence itself is sin.

Doing everything you can to shut down intelligent discourse because Jesus is what is making people dumber.

Assholes like this are the reason the First Amendment is simultaneously one of our biggest strengths, and our biggest weaknesses.

2014-03-27 03:56:46 PM
Maybe belief in biblical sin is a cause of decreased intelligence. Or malware for one's way of thinking,

2014-03-27 03:59:00 PM
There are a lot more creationists than there were in Adam's day.  Hey, intelligence IS declining!

2014-03-27 03:59:46 PM
"What would lead you to consider changing your mind?"

Ken Ham: "Nothing."

Why does a stock photo of a caveman pulling a Buddy Christ exist?

2014-03-27 04:02:39 PM
No subby, the man doesn't "think" that human intelligence is declining. He may fervently believe it's happening, even hope it happening because of sin, but there is no "thinking" involved.

/yeah, yeah...I know...pedantic

If the man really thinks that, someone should show him electricity.

Man thinks world is 6,000 years old and intelligence is in decline because of sin.
Uses as evidence a paper that describes selective traits that developed over 50,000 years ago.
Yeah, I gonna listen to this guy.

2014-03-27 04:05:53 PM
In fact, many people think ancient cultures were primitive, but a recent study found that human intelligence may actually be declining.

philosophyforlife.org

I'm sure that within the circles Mr. Ham is used to traveling, his outlook is entirely true. But of the population as a whole, there is little to no evidence that people are getting dumber.

For the head God Botherers, intelligence IS malware.

Could be. When I was a teenager I learned quite a bit from listening to Iron Maiden. I learned about Alexander the Great, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, WWII from Britain's perspective etc. These days all you hear on the radio is "Oh baby, I'm gonna get you pregnant, then leave for another ho".

Kids these days....

And this problem can be solved by sending him money. If human intelligence really is decreasing, it is because smart people often have no children while idiots breed like rabbits.

I am surprised Creationist have no concept of science.

Well, Adam named many animals in a single day. It makes sense that Adam's brain was probably much more capable than any modern human.

Maybe he read that as "selective traits that developed 50.00 years ago"?

Let me take a stab at his reasoning.

"Scientists are supposed to be the smartest people on the planet, but they can't even understand a simple observable fact like 'all life sprung from God in its final form'.  Clearly, scientists have become stupider.  Believing in evolution is a sin.  Believing in evolution has made scientists stupider.  Clearly, sin is making scientists stupider.  Scientists are humans.  Therefore, sin is making humans stupider"

2014-03-27 04:27:27 PM
He's absolutely right.

People who are obsessed with the concept of sin (usually in others) do see a decline in their intelligence.

Our biggest immigration problem isn't Mexicans, it's completely batty Australians.  Close the borders to Australians immediately.

The very definition of irony is the fact that Ken Ham is associated with an organization named for "answers".

Triple Oak: "What would lead you to consider changing your mind?"
Ken Ham: "Nothing."

"This strategy, which we call assertions of confidence, involved asserting that nothing or no one could ever change one's opinion. We considered this a separate strategy because responses such as "no one could change my belief " may reflect not merely confidence in one's ability to resist but also a potentially effective strategy for doing so. That is, asserting to a would-be persuader that one's belief cannot be changed may be an effective way of resisting influence."    -    (doi:10.1207/S15324834BASP2502_5)

Jaymark108: Let me take a stab at his reasoning.

I've actually heard this before (though from a different theological perspective). The reasoning:

Humanity was at its most "holy" state after the revelation at Sinai. Every subsequent generation, further removed physically and temporally from those events, is therefore less holy, or less aware of their holy nature as revealed to them at Sinai*, and more tempted to sin, or ready to sin, as a result.

However, that's only as regards spirituality. Regarding intelligence, only an idiot or someone with enough wool over their eyes to clothe India in perpetuity could seriously make a claim we're less intelligent.

*lest you think this only applies to People of the Book (and not Shepherd Book), there's a longer legend there, which I'll skip. You're welcome.

"The Bible tells us that humans were highly intelligent from the beginning. How do we know? Well, Adam named many animals in a single day, and people before the Flood had musical instruments and were able to construct the Ark. It makes sense that Adam's brain was probably much more capable than any modern human."

Is it really though? Look at the last century of technological innovation. Hell, look at the last decade.

Scalia said during the oral argument, "You're talking about, what, three or four birth controls, not all of them, just those that are abortifacient. That's not terribly expensive stuff, is it?" Is that a compelling counter?

It'd really help the Supreme Court if Scalia wouldn't just take fundamentalists claims as givens.  Three of the 'abortifacients' Hobby Lobby objects to (now - they had Plan B on their health plans before the PPACA) are Plan B and IUD's.  Those things do not cause abortions.

Didn't a bunch of fools get smote immediately upon Moses' return for building and worshiping a golden calf according to the ol' book? How is that the height of holiness?
