(Guardian)   Remember that episode where Sheridan called home to tell Hyacinth he had gotten a tattoo and she was so upset she dropped her Royal Doulton teacup with the hand painted periwinkles?   (theguardian.com) divider line 117

So I cry instead. I have a lump in my throat that stops me from eating. I feel as if someone has died. I keep thinking of his skin, his precious skin, inked like a pig carcass.

"Yes," I say, cutting across this male bonding. "It does. Very much."
For three days, I can't speak to my son.

Literally stopped reading right there.

Lets stop dancing around the feelings of those who think tattoos are cool and admit they are a sign of poor impulse control and an inability to understand the negative consequences of their actions.

Wow, if this is a snapshot of her parenting she should be happy the kid's going to school outside the house and can function in society as opposed to living the basement and hiding bodies of his victims in the back garden.

I don't believe I read that whole thing.
I think I was expecting it to end with the tattoo being a heart with "Mom" in the middle, and all would be forgiven.

Holy mother of helicopter parents.

My Orthodox Jewish mother was more OK with my brother's tattoos (all 4 of them, all hidden by standard clothing - unless he takes his shirt off) than this idiot.

Son: Mom, want to see my tattoo?

Mom (groans): I suppose...

(Son drops his drawers and grabs his junk)

Mom: Oh my...Do you know your dad has one just like it?

Son: Why would dad have "Wendy" tattooed on his penis?

Mom: Oh, that's only "Wendy," his says "Welcome to Jamaica, have a nice day"

I skimmed this, went to read something else, then started giggling uncontrollably about 30 seconds later.  Thank you.

Perhaps but this lady needs to Step.  The.  Hell.  Back.  In her mind, a choice her son made about his own body is all about her and her feelings.  She needs a reality check, stat.

It is not about tattoos. It is about a single request a mother made to her son over protracted periods of time, his entire juvenile and apparently adult years: please do not get a tattoo.

It is a fairly reasonable request.

He did it anyways, and no matter why he says he did it, he knew that part of the reason was to spite her, because she had made it very clear for a long time that she did not want it to happen.

She didn't ask or force him into a specific career or profession nor arrange a marriage. He could have easily and reluctantly honored her request. He did not.

This article is about an parent who's child has orchestrated a psychological attack on her with full knowledge of what he was doing.

I found an entire set of Braganza, which was the pattern used in the show, at a second-hand store a few years ago for nearly nothing. I have zero use for it, but I still giggle when I come across it in the basement.

The only moment of clarity in that entire article is this:

I stand, a lone tyrannosaurus, bellowing at a world I don't understand.

Your darling little boy is 21. He can get a swastika tattooed on his face if he so chooses, and you have absolutely zero say in the matter. Are there potential negative consequences? Sure, they run the gamut from infection to reduced job prospects, and everything in between. But that's what being an adult is all about: Making adult decisions and living with the consequences, both good and bad.

Walker:

I don't remember this episode of Babylon 5.

It was suppose to be at the end of Season 1 as episode 16, but "Grail" sucked so badly that the entire production crew was shoved out an air-lock and they now slowly orbit B5. Straczynski's twin brother was secretly put in place for the rest of the series and nobody was the wiser.

I assume you're trollin' but to be a parent is to know your children will break promises and do things you don't want them to.  Only yesterday I said to my lovely daughter "promise me dear, you will never bring a Missourian into this house as your bride groom, else I may die of fits".  Sure, she replied " daddy, I has cookies!", which I know meant "of course not, daddy dearest, I know you will never recognise Missourah" but she will, some day, come home with a damn Yankee husband and six half breed children.  Such is life.

I hated that show growing up.
My mom used to watch it and because I was a teenage boy I probably wanted to watch wrestling or something else dreadful. Now that I'm an adult, should I give it another chance?

I'd cry too, because any tattoo you get at 21 is going to look retarded at 40. At least the moron did not tattoo his neck or face. The stupid farkers who get tattoos on their neck or face should just be executed as too stupid to live.

I thought it was so they can avoid the lash. They'd get Jesus tattooed on their backs so the whip cracker would at least hesitate before lashing out.
