Did they cover this story INSTEAD of the fire, or in addition to the fire?  I'm not a fan of Brady, but this is just a human interest story. it's not there to take away from the actual event.

The fire is the ONLY thing being covered locally today, and as it happened just a few blocks from Brady's house, he would of course be asked to comment.

I didn't know the "alarms" went that high, all the way up to 11!

I don't understand how a Patriot fan could in any way dislike Brady? He's not the most charasmatic guy around, but he's not a BAD guy, and he avoids the spotlight enough so as not to be annoying. He's made the team relevant for 13 straight years now. The hell man

There's a handful of QBs around the league that are willing to milk any hit and work the refs for a flag. I get more annoyed by the handful of other Pats who are somehow blind to little things like that (because I hate blind homerism) but I don't hold it against HIM, really.

I hate Brady, but it seems to me like this is just someone expressing condolences to the very fire station that may have come to his aid if his house had ever caught fire. It means a little more sometimes when you realize that these people could specifically have died for YOU. Hell, it's no different from ANY news organization outside of that neighborhood covering it.

Never thought I'd defend Tom Brady, but subby is pretty clueless.

You're not annoyed with Brady because a lot of QBs try to milk penalties to win, but you're annoyed with Pats fans who don't mind when Brady does it because a lot of QBs try to milk penalties to win?

Huh?

I'm talking about the goofballs who think Brady is some divine creature who would never stoop to not-so-subtle displays of gamesmanship to get one over the opponent. You can be a great QB and a little bit of a jackass at times; not exactly hard to reconcile the two.

I hate Tom Brady about as much as anybody, but I agree.  This is a classy thing for him to do*.  It's also kind of silly how people complain about how the press covers minor events or human interest stories, as if it detracts from their ability to run the 100th speculative story on what might have happened to MH370 or 500th exposé on Benghazi.

aintnuttintofarkwith: I don't understand how a Patriot fan could in any way dislike Brady?

Part of why I dislike him is BECAUSE of the cult around him.  He is the favorite of all the bad sports fans in New England (and admittedly there are a lot of them).  He is the symbol of everything I feel like is wrong with where the Patriots and New England sports fans have gone since 2001.  Plus, he's a massive pouter.  He frickin' lost XLVI because he spent the entire game PMSing after the safety on the opening drive, before we even got to the Welker drops.

It's funny how I feel like a lot of outsiders really don't grasp how much of a divide there is between normal lifelong New England sports fans and the group that everyone else assumes is all of us.

A friend of mine used to say (before I really cared about football) how much she hated Tom Brady. I understood that she was a Giants fan, but the best explanation she could give me was "he's a pompous, arrogant jerk."

I mean, the "aww, penalize him for touching me!" crap gets old. But he has no problem sharing the spotlight, and it's been well-reported that he tries to keep his contracts team-friendly. He doesn't hog the media, he doesn't do commercials or TV time left and right.

Hate him because he's a fancy-boy, or hate him because he's not your quarterback. But it seemed off to make him off to be some pompous braggart. He has earned some of that right - he's one of the top-ten current NFL QBs, most likely top-five - but he doesn't seem to overuse that right.

There's idiot fans everywhere mixed in with the rational ones. A person with an IQ over 100 and a track record of leaving their house every once in a while should know this and not actually think in Boston that ratio is skewed moreso than any other city with professional teams. And, again, it's not really fair to just hate on Brady because of the few idiot fans who suck his cock too much.

As far as we know, he's a law-abiding citizen and a perfectly ok dude off the field. I'm not going to let a bit of smarm and the occasional studs-up-slide-pointed-for-Ed-Reed's-junk jackassery on his part invalidate a career of HoF-caliber play. I'll take a perhaps overly-competitive guy who played a significant role in delivering three SB rings over "super awesome nice sweetheart" who never delivered the hardware.

I truly love the "penalize him for touching me" stuff.

Peyton and Eli both do just as much if not more than Brady. Yet because they are "awe shucks mongoloids" they get some sort of a free-pass which always makes me laugh, as half of Fark is real quick to jump on the "follies of the dumb southerner".

Add to that, that Polian and Irsay had the rules changed according to receiver contact after Peyton got eaten up by the Pats D.

But " he makes Papa Johns commercials and drives Buicks, just like my lowly fatass".

Brady farks supermodels and doesn't endorse Golden Corral..."he's a biatch ass pussy who complains about everything and is a whiny coont".

Double standards are hilariously fun.

Such bullcrap. I would rather have the Brady Era now than go through the Sullivans/Toilets in $3 million dollar Shaeffer Stadium flush at the same time/Tony Eason Mega Fail/lose big to the Chicago Bears/interception machine Drew Bledsoe/Turncoat Tuna negotiates with the Jets DURING the Patriots' Super Bowl week and other bullshiat again. Are you really a lifelong fan? Because I remember the years, decades when the Pats were the doormat of the NFL. They didn't matter in anything. For heaven's sake, for the longest time the Jets were considered better than the Pats, so that's saying how awful New England used to be. and that the biggest star was an old broken down QB Steve Grogan.

You and your little clique may hate Brady, but as for myself I'll take the Brady/Belichick Era over all the other years I suffered through the crap. You must really have a mental block from the times the Pats were horrendous. Or I guess you liked the season they went 1-15.

Not entirely sure how this turned into an "I Hate Brady" thread, but whatever. Welcome to Fark, etc..

This was the third or fourth story I saw about Brady's non-involvement in the fire and it started to irk me. Nothing against Brady, but Boston media trips over themselves whenever he pokes his head out the window.

This type of shiat doesn't happen in other major cities.

Peyton has that carefully-cultivated media image of the workhorse veteran elder-statesman scholar-of-the-game (cliche much?) who eats, drinks, sleeps and poops football. So if he complains, it must be because someone did something wrong. And naturally, performance will get you a pass, and Peyton's the top QB in the game right now, so there you go.

We know Eli isn't getting a pass on performance, but anyone who held a grudge against Brady probably delighted in the fact that Eli and the Giants beat up on Tommy's Patriots twice in the Superb Owl. Pretty sure those were the second and third best days of my aforementioned friend's life, behind her wedding day, naturally.

I don't particularly like it when any player has to cry for a penalty on every down (Eric Decker, looking at you). It's a little annoying when it's the QB for the local team that's doing it. Just brush yourself off, spit out the loose tooth, and kick their asses on the next play. And then someone can hate him for spitting on the field.

Killer Cars, I'm with you; in an era where these guys get arrested every other day and have to get pay advances to cover their child support, Brady stays out of the headlines, he sleeps with and forms babby with one woman (well, except for the trap-baby), and he doesn't try to be the star of the show. He's also pretty good at playing football. That's going to be a hard act to follow when he's gone.
