My friends are a pretty rational guys, so if they jumped off of a bridge, then chances are there's a good reason. Is the bridge on fire? Is there a roving gang of murderers charging us on the bridge? Is there a large inflated mattress below for us to safely land on? There's a lot of missing information that I need to know before answering that question.

And that's why I got hit a lot as a teenager.

But it's such a thrill right up until the splat.

My mother always said, "If all your friends jumped off the Empire State Building"  NY thing?

I would be jumping first.

Yes, and I have.  Many times.

How the fark else do you jump into a river?

Depends.  Do the chicks dig guys that jumps off bridges?

2014-03-27 01:26:14 PM
That always used to cheese me off when my Mom said that.  I felt like telling her how stupid it sounded, but didn't want to get hit.

Those are two lucky guys, especially the one who only required a ground ambulance.

Not really, to me it means you don't have a lick of common sense and I don't like dumb guys.  I don't know why men don't seem to realize how easy it is to be killed in a bona-fide accident. Why tempt fate?

some of the neighbor kids jumped off a bridge into a tree.   one of them was able to climb down, the other had to have the fire department come and get him down.  The real problem, however, was that his mother found out he was doing it and she was a 70's version of the Heliocopter mom.  she freaked out and freaked him out.  As they had already done it 5-6 times before she showed up.

in the late 70's it was all the rage to jump off a local bridge for the JR. High kids.  the signs on either end of the bridge said, "NO JUMPING FROM BRIDGE  SHALLOW WATER  SHARP ROCKS"     as many as 4 kids died during the two years the bridge was in place.  it was a real pita when they took it out because it doubled the distance to school.

Only if it would be, like, really really awesome and stuff.

Common sense doesn't always come into play when tempting fate. The adrenaline rush of cheating death after jumping is something that can't be described unless experienced. I have six jumps out of a plane but never really wanted to try base jumping. Videos of base jumping are cool to watch.

Of course Mom's question was rhetorical.  She knew I didn't have any friends.

Because doing dangerously stupid things is hardwired into the male DNA, much like the drive to kill and win.
It's something you cannot possibly begin to understand

I'll never know, Mom, because I won't be one of the cool kids invited to bridge-jumping parties. And -that- is because you just don't love me enough to get me the new Nike Pumps and you want me to be a social outcast loser. I mean, that's what you want, so, you know. I guess I'll just have to save my bridge-jump decision until I finally go to college and get out from under your dictatorial thumb.

Because not everyone lives in a constant state of fear?

No because we jumped off cliffs instead

I would definitely sky-dive, enough the success-to-failure ratio is more than acceptable, but base jumping is a whole different animal - that's crazy time.

Well, yeah.  The trick is to let someone else jump first and make sure they survive.  And always check for canoes coming from under the bridge.  It's bad to land on a canoe.

My dad used to ask me "If your friends jumped off a cliff..."
Then I went cliff diving with my friends...

Well, OK...cliff jumping, I'm not dumb enough to go head first.

I did the same. My dad asked me if I was stupid and would I jump off a bridge because my friends did. I said yes because they would obviously gave a good reason. So he said, "don't get smart with me!" I asked him to make up his mind. And that's why I was grounded.

If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?
No, because thanks to your insane over-protecting and sheltering, I don't have any friends... biatch...

I submitted a BASE jumper dies link after several MH370 threads filled with "aviate, navigate, communicate" as "aviate, exsanguinate, excavate".

Oh well, made me laugh :/

I gave the same answer to my Mom, adding it is always the idiot who turns around and is killed instead of fleeing.  I figured it is best to leap than get an axe to the face.  My mom did not have a insightful response.

March 25--TWIN FALLS -- Two BASE jumpers ...

It didn't say anything about their being twins.

One of the men was flown to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, the other was taken by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center.

Here is the first responder showing up at the scene...
