Evil High Priest: Geotpf: As I pointed out previously, the power of the President to pardon or commute sentences is absolute under the constitution, with no review or approval needed by Congress or the courts.  Obama could shut down Gitmo at any time if he's willing to let everybody there go free.  He's not willing to do so, but that choice is with him, not with Congress as he claims.

There's that pesky NDAA again..

"The NDAA does not, however, ban the president from releasing detainees. Section 1028 authorizes him to release them to foreign countries that will accept them-the problem is that most countries won't, and others, like Yemen, where about 90 of the 166 detainees are from, can't guarantee that they will maintain control over detainees, as required by the law. "

I didn't say "release to a foreign country that will continue to jail them".  I said "commute their sentences".  That means they walk free, presumably on the United States mainland.

What sentences? They haven't been charged, tried or convicted.

Translation: You saw the name and didn't read it. Okay, let's try it this way: How do you explain this non-editorial story here:  http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/15/politics/irs-conservative-targeting  Why DID the IRS leader resign? How do you explain why Lois Lerner is keeping quieter than a doormouse on what's going on? What do you think she's not telling us?

You really, REALLY see nothing suspicious here at the very least? Even when Obama himself says something's wrong?

Holy Moly. It's like Obama no longer has supporters, but religious zealots.

bdub77: What if you ask an American a pointed question like "How would you handle the Ukrainian crisis?" Can we at least see the absolute retardation that comes out of their mouth?

In summary, Americans are clueless f*cking idiots.

I'd have gone with something a little more attainable for the average Murikan:  "On this globe, without geopolitical borders drawn, can you point to Crimea?"  The next question would be "On this other globe, with geopolitical borders drawn and countries labelled, in less than 30 seconds can you point to Crimea? (Hint: it's in The Black Sea)?"

Absolutely true.

And yet, because there are so many of these cockroaches, they claim victory in numbers.

Next time you're in one of these threads, one of them will say something like "Didn't you learn your lesson in that other thread where UrukHayGays pawned you about the IRS" and they'll all start agreeing.

Someday, if your unfortunate enough to get on Total Fark, you'll see the same thing where overweight, homely people post pictures of themselves and tell each other how hot they are.

It's really kind of sad.

sprawl15: the part where he did not promise that the insurance companies would be subject to so much government overreach that they would be unable to cancel or even change any existing policy

"If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. PERIOD. If you like your health insurance, you can keep your health insurance. PERIOD."

He made a "Read my lips, no new taxes" type of promise. He never said anything about any churn, small individual policy changes made 3 years or less before the ACA went into effect that would invalidate his blanket statement or any thing else that may have modified that statement. He said Period. Period means that's it, end of statement, I'm finished talking, I have nothing more to add. This is not up for debate, he said it and he said it more than once. He had plenty of opportunity to make any clarifying statements and he declined to make them.

He only clarified that statement a month after the ACA went into effect, after he had been caught in a bold faced lie that he knew without a doubt to be a lie (so no claim of how he was misinformed by his staffers) specifically intended to get Democrats to go to the polls and vote for him and his fellow Democrats (especially in the Senate) in November 2012. Do you really think that he would have gotten anywhere near the voter turnout that he got (or that they would have voted for him if they did go to the polls) if he had instead said that millions of people will without a doubt lose their doctors and insurance and have to go onto the exchanges to replace what they had with the distinct possibility of higher premiums, higher deductibles and losing the doctors that they had?

There is no possible way for him or anyone else to spin their way out of this. He said it. PERIOD. He lied for political gain and in the process made a somewhat tolerable and understandable healthcare system a complete mess that is rife with inconsistencies and which currently is failing to meet their own minimum enrollment numbers that they themselves said that they needed to make it even remotely economically viable.

The insurance companies are even now saying that unless something changes drastically that all insurance premiums across the board are going to go up even higher than what their own worst case estimates before the ACA went live projected.

Obama knows this. That's why he has essentially done almost everything that the Republicans were asking for back in October to delay it for a year to let it mature first (remember that whole shutdown thing?). Here and elsewhere the left was saying things along the lines of "It's the law, so we all have to follow it and we can't change it". Apparently that meant that the congress couldn't change it, even though they are the ones who wrote it in the first place, but that the guy who was charged with implementing the law could change it at will with no input from the political body that wrote and enacted it. The deafening sound of silence from the left on this subject is not surprising at all considering all of the noise that they made about it being the law and that it couldn't be changed. I'd be embarrassed about being so wrong too if I were in their shoes.

Was this a list of accomplishments or failures?

Thrag: You are still making no sense at all. How is "curtailing utilities shipped to Ukraine" supporting the Ukraine? How is cutting off electricity and water from Ukraine (we'll just ignore the fact that this makes no farking sense to begin with) supporting them? Did you mean cutting off utilities to Crimea? If so, how exactly is Obama supposed to do that?

Not only was it a lie, he knew it was a lie three years before Obamacare went into effect.http://www.nbcnews.com/news/other/obama-admin-knew-millions- could-not- keep-their-health-insurance-f8C11484394  and if that wasn't hilarious enough, just for fun ask the next Obama supporter you know - what happened to your up-to $2,500 savings on health care? So in response to Russia invading Crimea what Obama should have done is used mortars to cut off utilities shipped to the Ukraine.

Brilliant! Why didn't anything think of this before!

skozlaw: Aside from the Russia sanctions, I can't actually think of anything he's really done recently that would give me a strong opinion of him one way or the other. The ACA stuff from the end of 2013 is just the culmination of what he did years ago and people only reacted to it because they didn't bother to think about it until it happened.

But, then, I've never thought Americans were all that bright when it comes to things like this. Even when they hated Bush it never really seemed like they knew exactly why. Mostly over Iraq even though they were probably the same respondents giving an approving nod to the invasion to begin with. They loved him, then they hated him. In both cases, pretty much just "because reasons".

/ Americans are ill-informed, lazy and fickle

brainwashed idiots would work fine.

The only thing 'suspicious' that I see is how any of these 'tea party' and 'patriot' groups who are very clearly promoting candidates for only one particular party can even have the balls to claim that they deserve tax exempt status under 501(c)4 status.  social welfare my ass.
