Hate and Love are such strong words.  I prefer to go with milder shades, such as dislike, distrust, but at times admire and sympathize.  I think once he became President he quickly realized it was harder than he thought it would be, and hasn't done a good job being confident and believable when he has needed to be.  That perception of weakness translates into a lack of respect both at home and on the world stage.

People look at some of the hatred of Obama and see that racism is the only motivation that makes sense (e.g. the Birthers).

I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt; when analyzing residents of the right-wing reality bubble, assuming their motivations make sense to outsiders is unwarranted.

Who *wouldn't* hate someone who was like the reality bubble's characterization of Obama, even in the absence of racism? A Communist Muslim radical Christian dictator empty suit who's bent on destroying capitalism, Christianity and freedom itself? Someone who hates the troops, abandoned Benghazi to the terrorists, and is personally spending the country into bankruptcy?

Hugh2d2: Where's the "very disappointed in him" option?

This. Now the reasonable Democrats understand how reasonable Republicans feel about GW Bush. I'm not talking about the apologists for both men who try to convince us they walk on red or blue water. For those of us in the middle, who thought Bush was a better choice than Gore or Kerry, who also thought Obama was a better choice than McCain or Romney, it's been 16 long years of mostly disappointment. I honestly hope the two parties offer us Hillary Clinton (been there, done that) vs. Jeb Bush (been there, done that too) in 2016. Then maybe, just maybe, the nation will realize the two major parties really have nothing to offer and voters will consider looking at other candidates.

Isn't a 41% approval rating in the middle of the second term incredibly farkin' good, historically speaking?

Hrm, let's see what Gallup has to say about second terms...

content.gallup.com

OK, so Obama's holding about par with Jonson and beating the crap out of Bush (the second one, first one didn't get a second term obviously) and Truman.  Not really surprising that Eisenhower kicks everyone's ass, he was a hero politically to both parties and also an actual war hero presiding over a bunch of economic boom-times.

How 'bout more recent ones?

content.gallup.com

All right, so Clinton and Reagan did a bit better.  Clinton makes sense, given the similar economic boom-times.  Not sure how Reagan pulled that shiat off given the scandals and crashing the US steel industry almost single-handed, I guess everyone was high on the fall of communism, maybe?

OK, so overall it looks like Obama is sort of middlin', approval-wise.  Appropriate since he's a pretty middling-quality president, competent but not exceptionally skilled or charismatic.

s2s2s2: I'd gladly trade a likable president for an effective one. Obama is fine, but I'd prefer we had campaign Obama.

Campaign Obama's only major deviation from presidenting Obama was on transparency, other than that he's stuck to his outlined plan to overall management of executive issues and his listed policy priorities to the damned letter.

He even explicitly outlined his focused-aggression/american-casualty-minimization scheme in very, very specific terms as early as 2007 and has stuck to it  perfectly.

If you think that campaign Obama is some super-idealist lefty magic man, then the problem's really with  you.  If someone fed you a line on that one it definitely  wasn't Obama.  Did you miss the debate with McCain in 2008 where the two men spent 80% of the airtime  agreeing with each other on policy?  McCain is not known for his hippie/moonbat tendencies, man.

The reality bubble does them a serious long-term disservice. Instead of trying to figure out what they might do better, they just declare they were right all along.

For example, "unskewed polls". Instead of realizing they were behind, possibly adjusting their message or policies, the Romney campaign just went "we're actually neck and neck with Obama, la la la I can't hear you". Eventually reality (in this case, the only poll that matters, the election) meets up with you whether you believe in it or not.

Thanks for the "News They Don't Want You To Hear".  For people who can't watch it because they fear the jackbooted thugs of this ineffectual and weak leader, Obama held a press conference yesterday with the Dutch Prime Minister and NOBODY clapped at the conclusion.

This is as opposed to the COUNTLESS White House "press" conferences in DC where the lamestream mainstream MSM deadbrain media always clap like seals at the conclusion of each and every press conference.

I'm glad that we have Miss Alexandra with her finger on the pulse of this administration.  Thank you, wise patriot, for exposing this hated and feckless leader.

Pfft, a tank, get out of the stone age, we don't need to invade, we have drones to take care of our target now.

It's weird how people seem to think drones are effective battlefield weapons. The only reason we can use drones in Afghanistan is that none of the people we're shooting at have the ability to shoot back. A drone is the equivalent of the day bombers that European air forces used on their colonial subjects in the '20s and '30s. When those got into an environment with enemy fighter planes in 1939, they went bye-bye in flames.

Agent Nick Fury: Sorry racist rigtwingers, we clueless, idiotic, ill-informed, lazy and fickle Americans elected him and now you're going to have to live with it.

You people make me sick.

Racism and "because Democrat" only accounts for about 25% of the respondents as that's the group that resolutely stands by the "fark everybody but me" mantra of the teabaggers. The other ~ 35%? I can just about guarantee almost none of them actually know why they don't like him, just that all the negative news about the ACA and Russia makes them feel like he's probably doing a bad job.

You're talking about a population full of people who probably couldn't name the three bodies of government or who's in line for succession after Biden. People who routinely respond positively to almost every major line item of the ACA but say they hate Obamacare. People who think that Obama raised taxes, cut oil production and went soft on illegal immigration.

You think the majority of people polled are really paying enough attention right now to have formed a valid and honest opinion on the matter of his performance as a whole as it relates to their own lives? Or do you think it's more likely they're just responding on how they "feel" he might be doing?

Yeah, we should just fly over there in our C-190's or what ever we use to transport those tanks and kick them out over the tops of the Russian troops. Just use the tanks as gravity bombs, that will show them Commies that they can't compete with the US and should never try, because we are so rich we use excess tanks as gravity bombs.
