Will one of them feature a duet with Tupac, or Jimi Hendrix on guitar?

Who cares? Do you have a personal connection with Johnny Cash Subby? It's only upsetting to people because the son will be making money. Let the guy make some money off his father's name.

A duet with Jimi would have been awesome. Clapton's appearance on the TV show with Carl Perkins is one of my favorite things ever.

I have no problem with it, assuming quality is high.  Just avoid the "Elvis's Takeout Orders, Vol. 3" -type stuff that saw the light of day.

He's always been exploited for cash.

I would love to see a Mermaid Ave. type project with the unreleased/unrecorded Cash catalog.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!  We can't have the incomplete works of artists being released to the public posthumously! That is an ABOMINATION!!! Better to set fire to them as soon as the body goes cold, am I right?!

Came here to say something similar.

A lot of artists record every practice session. Death hasn't stopped many releases. I imagine a decent amount of rolling-in-graves going on.

His bank account was in the red, gotta keep the man in black.

Well, Tupac is rolling in his office chair in witness protection, but I see what you are saying.

If my dad had been famous and I owned otherwise unknown tapes, photos, etc. of him I would most certainly use them as income.  It beats working for a living.

if johnny cash wants to sell Taco Bell, that's one thing.

For his son to rape his dad's corpse by putting out music that Johnny didn't want to release?
that's another thing.

How do you know that Cash (the elder) didn't want to release them?

I have no problem with this. As a fan of Johnny Cash, I welcome recordings of his that I've not yet been able to listen to. If his son makes some money off of it, that's fine.

Can you imagine the outrage if his son said "I have a bunch of unreleased recordings of Dad, but I'm keeping them for myself"?

Seriously, the volume of the entitled tantrums could be heard from space if he went in the other direction. You can't win.

Didn't one of JC's family members just get stabby-stabbed over a drug deal last week?
/I guess there is plenty of new writing material.

If Cash didn't want them released, he should have specified that in his will.

Johnny Cash recorded a ton of materiel in his final years so i am not surprised they are able to squeeze out more than a few albums out of it.

I don't care if a kid lives off of what his parents did. I do care if that kid is then going to either tell me whether I'm a hard worker or not ('cuz he doesn't know himself), or that he should be entitled to my money because of it.

Thus, the difference between Paris Hilton (a merely spoiled kid living off her grandpappy's good ideas) and Mitt Romney (a spoiled kid living off his pappy's good ideas AND using that to legally steal money from those who didn't win the genetic lottery, THEN telling those same people that they're lazy asses because they don't have money.) Paris Hilton is simply an entertaining nuisance. Mitt Romney (and the Kochs, et al) are actual dangers to society.

I was making a wisecrack. I, too, find those who inherit wealth and then act like they are superior beings distasteful. I'm not thrilled by kids who mine their parent's creative work for money either. Examples include this guy, Chris Tolkien, the guys who keep publishing comic strips after the original creator is dead, you get the picture. But above all, those 'born on second base and think they've hit a double' make me stabby.

He did want to release it, the record company refused. He was seen as a has been and he struggled. I think it was the highwaymen that got him back in the game,

Christopher Tolkien has done more for his father's legacy than his father did while still alive. If he was some horrible monster who merely wanted to exploit Middle Earth for cash, there would have been a dozen sequels hacked out by the likes of Terry Brooks a long, long time ago. Instead, while JRR Tolkien himself sold the rights to his work for cash, his son has largely declined to do so. His most egregious crime was to carefully finished his father's life work as per his father's vision, The Silmarillon (something he had been assisting with in life), and then provided material Tolkien scholars long clamored for.

Lumping him in with people who simply sit back and cash in on their parents' legacy is beyond absurd. Certainly no one who understands what Christopher Tolkien contributed to his father's legacy and our grasp of the scope of his work would make that kind of claim.

Have a link on that release refusal?

Don't think many people ever considered Johnny Cash a has-been.

But that Soros guy he gets a pass because his politics align with your own right? Maybe you should introduce some balancing when practicing elitism with such easily refutable examples.

Myself I could care less if people want to smoke weed smoke weed or if fat people want to eat then eat or if rich kids want to spend money because they are rich, why go right ahead more power to you, spending money means some one else has a job, thank you rich sir!

I get lectured too by climate freaks to drive this or that, the government regulates toilets and light bulbs because of reasons, the anti-vaccine freaks tell me that syringe contains poison, the healthy tell me to exercise more, Obama tells me if I like my plan I can keep it. There is not a strata of this society that DOESNT tell other people what to do so don't go pulling out rich kids as the prime example of hypocrisy. We get it you wish you were them, leave it at that.
