I thought it wouldn't be important to know who the president of Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan-stan is, but this proves otherwise

I'd beat her with something, if you know what I mean.

Well, if she doesn't like the beatings and house arrest, she should quit being such an ungrateful little biatch, then. Spare the rod, spoil the child. I mean, didn't her father make her a billionaire in a country that isn't in the upper half of the average personal income stats?

Reap what you sow.  She was on board when normal Uzbeks endured much worse while she lived as a princess.

Welp.  I had not heard that.

According to Human Rights Watch, basically EVERYONE arrested or even brought in as a witness by the Uzbek police will generally be beaten or tortured.

Wonder what Daddy wouldn't get her? I mean, she's been totally fine with her fathers methods, methods that have let her get filthy rich, up to now....

FTFA: Gulnara Karimova (left) is believed to be being held under house arrest and her father Islam Karimov is alleged to have sent men round to assault his daughter, it has been claimed

It's believed that it's been alleged that some have claimed this happened.

Well, since you're so sure...

Well, Uzbekistan is not so bad. Couple of boilings, what's that between friends. They make jolly good little cars they export to Russia.

You should have seen Turkmenistan. It's glorious leader, Turkmenbashi, have written a holy book which is required, by law, to be held in every mosque as an equal book to Quran.

A lot of post-Soviet states are such unbelievably terrifying shiatholes, that Russia by comparison seems an enlightened stronghold of freedom and democracy. Mark my words, one day those shiatholes would explode (again), and it would be wise not to stay nearby...

Yep.  they keep basically a human-sized Fry-o-lator in their prisons for just such a purpose.   A blog post I wrote way back then criticizing Bush's decision to make nice with the Uzbeki leader (we needed airfields there to operate in Afghanistan) has a link t an amnesty international document with pictures if you are truly curious, but my advice is, don;t ask me for the link...it's....horrific is a word that used a lot these days but in this case it really is the ocrrect term

Kazakhstan's name
Don't call me Stan
The president wants to change what the country is called

Just think, if Japan and Europe hadn't shut down all/most of their nuclear reactors, this is where the US would have to get some nuclear materials from when Canada and Australia's reserves run out in 60 or so years. Fortunately with the shutdowns and improved reprocessing technology, we won't need to go there for 200 years or more now.
Unless we go all nuclear fuel, then we'll be needing their resources in a mere 25 years.
Won't it be nice to return to the 'stans, not for oil, but for Uranium?

Of course, we could go for surface based energy resources, and leave these places as they seem to choose to be, and with the added benefit of not needing to put boots on the ground for energy reasons.
