Nope.  Not happening.  Not at all.  Not even walking out on the glass sidewalk.

While I'm not really one for crazy heights, I would think a number of people would actually pay good money to be dangled from a harness over the Grand Canyon.

2014-03-26 04:02:44 PM
If that job paid even close to what I make, I'd take it in a heartbeat.  Look like fun.

I would take this job with a (moderate) pay cut.  I would love a climbing job

That sounds like a rush. I wouldn't do it for what they are probably paying though.

I found them some danglers:

Workers from a Phoenix-based company had an awe-inspiring view as they dangled from ropes to clean the glass at the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Are there panty-less, wide-stanced women in dresses on the Skywalk? Because these guys don't seem to be looking down at the canyon.

They aren't "dangling" from a harness. They're securely strapped in to a harness with multiple redundancies in case something fails. It's probably safer to clean under it than stand on top of it.

They probably get paid pretty good though.

The Grand Canyon is amazing. There's even a lodge at the bottom.

Would I do that?

How dirty does the glass get underneath?  Do things fall up into it?

2014-03-26 04:35:26 PM
I would do that all day long.

Mr. Right: How dirty does the glass get underneath?  Do things fall up into it?

I think the problem is people go out on it, crap their pants, and that leaks through the seams in the floor.

Probably not significantly more dangerous than the thousands of people who work as window cleaners on tall office buildings all over the world.  A different angle, different rigging, I suppose, but basically the same risk.

2014-03-26 04:36:44 PM
If it's your job it's probably fun for you. Although I did talk to a guy who formerly did that window cleaning on highrises. He said he mostly did it because it paid very well for the amount of skill needed (not that much if your just doing the window cleaning, not say sign installs). He stopped after a primary line snapped.

Why does subby think it's a bad job ?

That is an amazing job and I'd love to do it. I've been on the glass sidewalk, I can only imagine how stunning the scenery must be when seeing it from underneath.

Life is too short to waste it being afraid.

Just curious but does anyone know how well the glass walkway has done for the local tribe? I know there was a lot of discussion when it was being built whether it would really help the local economy.

Question: When they terminate an employee, do they fire him or let him go ?

I clean the asses of morbidly obese people who can't reach without 7 litres of oxygen flowing up their nose.
I also wash alot of geriatric genitals.

This.

It's nice they wear orange shirts so they're easily identifiable at the bottom.

There's a lodge both places. The one at the bottom is much smaller. All of the stuff at the bottom was taken down by mule. They actually built the lodge out of river rocks.

They cut him loose and drop him from the payroll.

Visited the skywalk a couple of years ago.  I guess for a one time visit it was was cool.  They don't allow any cameras on the skywalk, since they have their own photographers out there snapping pictures.   Of course afterwards they try and sell you the overpriced photos.  Getting there is the biggest thing.  It's practically all dirt/gravel roads all the way out to the site.

He or she is implying that it is at the bottom because it fell down.

I usually don't mind working at heights, have been on a number of towers, buildings, etc.

But I once had to replace some connectors on an antenna array high above the superstructure of an aircraft carrier in the middle of winter in Norfolk.

Even though the ship was docked, that high up you're swaying back and forth several feet. And a propane soldering iron doesn't work for sh*t when it's below freezing and windy as hell.

Worst day of work in my life.

A friend went there and told me the same thing. They won't let you use your camera because it might fall and break the glass... yet they let their own photographers use cameras? What about cameraphones?

Also heard tickets for the skywalk are rather pricey too.

This, so hard. Climbing work is some of the most awesome work in existence. The views are too die for and the freedom is amazing.
