It turned out that the rat had found its way into the apartment cellars by chewing through cement and wood, the pest controllers explained.

Cement??? The thing can chew thru bomb shelters! The thing can get thru things nukes can't even get thru! We're as doomed as doomed can be I must say.

At least it was only a Viking rat, it's the Nazi rats you have to watch out for.

"One of my sons said it was a Putin rat at breakfast this morning. But my older son, who has a few more years of education under his belt, said it was much more like a Viking rat..."

In other news, there's a real thing called a Putin rat.

My parents had a giant red rat hanging around their farm years back. It never got caught in a trap. Died of natural causes one day while running through a ditch. Massive.

I'm a little perplexed; is the Viking Rat another name for a Norway Rat? Norway rats have been in the United States and Canada for quite a number of years now (centuries?). They are reportedly over a foot long, but that's always taking tail length into account. This bugger is 16 inches before counting the tail. That's some rat!

No, it's a funny name his kid came up with for "big, scary rat":

I say get rid of the cat and keep the rat around for protection. Apparently, they're pretty smart. Just take it to the vet and get it fixed so it doesn't populate your home with hundreds of other giant rats.

So are you who I blame for the dumbing down of EQ2? It drove me away from it after playing the original for a number of years.

No, that was trickle-down from a faction at the top who decided that if so many people where building 3 party applications to analyse logs, compute weapon/item/spell value, "raid 'load-out' planning" tools, etc., it must be too complicated.

I personally thought that all of the unsolicited engagement from the players, and the emergent approaches to group problem solving, was one of the great things about EQ1, even given its other flaws.

Do not start singing that song. Anything to the tune of the "Ride of the Valkyries" is a brain-worm. Wagner is deadly, even in small doses.
