FTFA:  Shayn Turner could have spent the rest of his life in prison, but was only weeks into his 40-year sentence when he was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning at the St. Albans correctional facility.

This is one of the stupidest opening lines I've ever read.

Could have spent the rest of his life in prison?

I dare say he did.

He was jonsing for some more of that sweet 10 year old nookie. Caused a seizure and he died. His family should sue for negligence since the prison didn't properly ween him over to adult pmita sex to handle his addiction.

From TFA: Turner was serving time for repeatedly raping a 7-year-old girl, recoding the attacks, and then trading the videos online.

I have a 7 year old daughter.  This guy got way, WAY better than he deserved.  I'm all for justice but somebody doing stuff to kids makes me crazy.

If I was ever on a jury for a parent that killed someone who had harmed their kid....well...the verdict might be "guilty of jaywalking".

Well if it was another inmate that induced the "seizure" perhaps we should let the incarcerated determine who actually gets the death penalty.

AugieDoggyDaddy: he prison officials are not going to house a kiddie rapist with a Hells Angel.

Massachusetts prison officials basically did that. This guy was an accused pedophile priest, but all they could get to stick was a charge of grabbing some boy's ass. So they transferred him to the maximum security facility, put him in a cell with a white supremacist lifer with a history of violence against homosexuals, and waited for the screams to stop. His cellmate was convicted and is now serving two life sentences without parole instead of one. (Wikipedia page has the basics; I'm not sure if it's exactly right).

I sort of think it's time we admit that certain criminals (particularly sex-offenders who did things to minors, as this girl was 7 years old), should have no rights anymore.

He died? sad.  he died in prison for raping a 7 year old?  Not sad.  Just grind him into food for the less offensive prisoners.  Don't waste money or time on an investigation when it isn't necessary.  Some good person who raped and killed him is going to have a bad day if you go figuring out who's guilty.

2014-03-26 11:29:34 AM
This is probably legitimate. There are so many cameras in a prison that you can count on being on camera 99% of the time. The john is the 1% you are not. Staff doesn't even know where all of the cameras are. They spy on us more than the inmates. The only way a staff member could have had any involvement is if they were admin and no one saw it. And... some one would see it.

If she was lying and the victim of the beating was innocent, there is a SEVERE oops moment, and daddy dear is now eligible for a few years in PITA/UFIA land courtesy of the state. This is one reason why we have "police" and "investigations". Or is daddy simply to have the shiat beaten out of him in order to give justice to the innocent man he wronged?

Unless you were there while he was taping the stuff, that is.  Yes, he PROBABLY did the crime.  But if you think neither of those two entities ever makes mistakes, or deliberately lies...well, I've got some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you.

We "knew" they'd found that guy's fingerprints at the Madrid bombings, right?

Oops.  Turns out the FBI just really, really, wanted to convict someone.  Who'd never even been to Spain, it turned out.

And we "knew" all those drug defendants were guilty here in Massachusetts...heck, the lab results said so.  Science doesn't lie, right?

The worst thing you can do with people like this is to let the machine just grind on by. Give the situation whatever investigations are the standard for inmate deaths, punish the perpetrator in the standard way if the investigation turns up foul play, and move on. No muss, minimal fuss. He deserves no better.

four is too far and five is right out.

Right then...

Littering...

Definitely guilty of littering.

Vermont State Police are awaiting autopsy results in an investigation into the death of Shayn Turner, 43, an inmate at the Northwest State Correctional Facility (NSCF) on Tuesday.
According to a statement from police, Turner was spotted having a "medical episode" during a routine check on his cell at 1:40 a.m. The correctional officer and a nurse in the facility responded to the emergency call and began lifesaving procedures, said Vermont State Police.
AmCare Ambulance personnel arrived on the scene and took over treatment of Turner, pronouncing him dead at 2:18 a.m., police report.
A mother of an NSCF inmate spoke with the Messenger today. She said Turner's cellmate raised the alarm about Turner's condition and other inmates joined him, banging on their cell walls to try and get the attention of a corrections officer.
Turner was a high profile inmate, reportedly just returned to Unit A from segregation.
He was sentenced to 40 years to life in February by Judge Michael Kupersmith as part of a plea agreement in which Turner pled guilty to four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. His victim was just six years old at the time of the first rape.
Child pornography charges against Turner for recording the rapes and sharing the images online were dropped as part of the plea agreement. Police do not consider the death suspicious.
In 2009 when the facility housed female inmates, the state coroner determined another NSCF prisoner, Ashley Ellis, died after medical personnel at the facility failed to provide her with the potassium she needed to insure her heart functioned properly.
An inquiry into the case determined that Ellis, 23, had an eating disorder. It was shown that prison medical staff was notified by her physician, in advance of her arrival, of her medical needs, but did not provide the potassium despite repeated requests from Ellis, who died within 48 hours of being incarcerated.

Logical calm me don't disagree with a word you said.  However, crazy dad me doesn't care what happens to guys like this.

And yes, I don't trust the cops.  I had an uncle who was a cop and he said "Don't trust the cops".  So I took that advise seriously.

Oh, I hear you.  No kids myself, but if I caught some guy in the act, diddling one of my nieces?  Yeah...I'd probably be looking at a homicide charge.  That's not ITG, that's just a normal human male reaction, imho...hard-wired deep in the DNA.

Problem is, that's EXACTLY why you've got to be so careful with these charges...they're literally lethal, even if the perp doesn't get an (official) death penalty.

Someone brought up the example the priest here in Mass, Geoghan, or whatever his name was.  Yes, he might've been a scumbag...but the only thing he was ACTUALLY convicted of, was touching the outside of a kid's bathing suit.  Anyone who's ever roughhoused with a kid has probably done the exact same thing.

This. The death isn't punishment, it's to permanently protect others and free up resources to protect against other unknown threats. I'm okay with this.

Dude was a seriously damaged individual, and the poster child for priestly abusers. He is pretty much the reason the lid was torn off the institutional abuse. I doubt he would get that slap on the wrist today. I hope not, at least.

Yeah...problem was, some of the higher-ups got diplomatic immunity from the Vatican, so...no further prosecution was possible.

It's a big part of the reason I'm reserving judgment on the new Pope.  Sure, he sounds like a nice guy, but his institution has done some very dark shiat over the years.

Pinning a medal on Alfred Krupp after working all those Jews and POWs to death was...an interesting statement of institutional ethics.  I'll leave it at that.

Hey, it's a start. Frances is as responsible for Catholic sanctioned villainy as I am for my Depression-era Texas grandmother's racism. I am willing to give some respect for how he walks the walk, exposing un-Christ-like hypocrisy in the modern, selfish church as he goes.

Sarah farking Palin insulted him for being too socialist. Just wait till she meets the über hippie Christ, if she goes up after death and not down. Stupid woman.

Frances is ok in my book. He is attentive and progressive and sees the evolving world, and thinks how one can remain spiritual and generous of spirit in a changing world.

Of course, I am a little buzzed right now, so I could be extrapolating.

Is this the same FARK that opposes the death penalty so strongly?!

Funny how quick views change to fit the situation.  You seem to oppose the death penalty in theory... but cheer it's application when performed by inmates rather than when it occurs through legitimate processes (and due appeals).

Hell I support the death penalty (although believe it needs reforms), so it wouldn't be so hypocritical of me if I supported this sort of thing.  But I am not so keen on the vigilante "justice" as you all are.  There are certain people who definitely deserve to die - but this is not the way it should happen in a remotely civilized society.  Putting aside what the guy may or may not have done (and even the strength/validity of the evidence against him), vigilante justice is not justice and has no place in modern civilized society - not even in prison.  I also think any guards/other prison officials that allow this sort of thing should absolutely be charged as accessories to murder.  Neither police officers nor prison guards should be above the law.

You let raw emotion blind you from even basic reason, and turn into frenzied pack animals.  It is hard to see people like you as much above frenzied mobs in other countries that stone people (such as homosexuals/girls who where raped/etc) to death all while trying to out-cheer each other as the gory ritual carries on.  I'm glad you are proud to be barbarian animals rather than men.

And no I am not defending this man, nor defending what he allegedly did.  Who he is and what he did is well beyond the point.  It would not matter if this man was Hitler himself.  I stand by my words.  I believe in the concept of justice.  This is not justice by any rational definition.
