GO BLUENOTES.

Man, I thought Buffalo and Cleveland had it worse.

This years collapse came a little later in the season than usual.  Isn't the normal pattern, a strong November where they're 1st or second, a huge slide in December leaving some hope of a rebound followed by a disappointing January to bury all thoughts of hope in a frozen grave?

Making it to spring must have really ripped Leafs fans hearts out.

Well you won't be needing this...

It's ok, they'll start to win as soon as Bernier is back in goal. It's all Reimer's fault. Oh wait...

Meanwhile, fans of the "elite" St. Louis Blues prepare to transition from "this is FINALLY our year" to "We just got eliminated in the second round again, probably by the Kings, Sharks, or Nucks."

Meh, one win and they're right back in.

How do you know it's spring?  The Leafs are out.

STL will play the Blackhawks or Avs in the second round (if they get there).

The Eastern Conference playoffs in the NHL might be as bad as they will be in the NBA.

Poor Leafs' fans... I just can't bring myself to revel in their misery, even though I'm a Bruins' fan.

Having said that, they're not out yet...

The strange thing is I'd be putting my money on an Eastern team because the West is going to be an absolute meat grinder.  Looking at current matchups I can't think of a series that won't go at least 6.

Speaking of teams from the East - with the Pens loss to Phoenix last night, it's the second team they've lost to from the West where the team has used their backup goaltender.

A little early for Pittsburgh to be in prime playoff form, isn't it?

Bahahaha
Couldn't happen to a better fan base.   I'll be cheering for every team they play until officially eliminated.

I don't hate the Leafs or Leaf fans.  I do hate the Canadian media who fixate on them endlessly.

The Leafs were playing with fire with their style of play though.  Getting outshot pretty much every game they play, winning lots of one-goal games, depending on a much higher shooting percentage than your opponents ... there were lots of articles a month or so ago questioning if this was sustainable.  I was kind of hoping the chickens would come home to roost in the first round of the playoffs, but late March works too.

Oh, I don't think they need to worry about the Canucks this year.

I have little respect for people who have poor grammar skills. I have almost no respect for a professional organization with poor grammar skills.

I'm a Canucks fan, but I can tell you right now that the odds of the Canucks spoiling a Blues cup run isn't likely. Extremely doubtful they're making the playoffs this year...

I've been a Maple Leafs fan all my NHL-watching life, but spent the vast majority of that time over 1000km from Toronto, so I was never really exposed to the rest of the fan base.  I still like to think it's mostly made of non-assholes, but from "Toronto Stronger" to Reimer's wife getting abuse on Twitter for a losing streak that isn't Reimer's fault in the first place, I have to admit the assholes are numerous and loud.

/And so, so dumb

Eh... Every fan base has its morons. It's inevitable. For what it's worth, every Toronto fan I've met at the Garden in Boston has been cool.

The team was named after the Maple Leaf Regiment from WWI. The regiment's a proper noun, hence the plural is Maple Leafs.

You remember that epic game 7 choke job against the Bruins last year?

This is the season version of that.
