FTA:  "My lifesaver, Mantecore, who was the one responsible for pulling me to safety where the paramedics could help me after my blood pressure made me dizzy on stage - he is greatly missed. However, I have my memories and I know that now he is playing with his brother and sister," Horn wrote.

Yeah, I'm sure the tiger was thinking "let me pull this human to safety where medical professionals can better reach him."

More like "Is there a place I can stash this body to come back to later when I'm hungry?"

One less homophobe dead.

Though it is generally accepted that Mantecore attacked Horn, the performers never saw it that way.

"generally accepted" ??? WTF?

The man was suffering from an embolism and the cat applied pressure to keep him from dying.

RIP, cat.

The Holy Mackerel: One less homophobe dead.

Horn always said that Montecore was dragging him to safety, and on the way to the hospital instructed that the cat not be harmed.

But that's still funny.

/named one of my cats Mantecore.

SBinRR: So, Roy thinks the cat was trying to save him.  That's some quality denial going on there.

Not really.  I've read a fair bit about the attack and there is a convincing argument made that the tiger was trying to carry him as it would a kitten by the scruff of the neck. The trouble is that people don't have scruffs and are a lot heavier than kittens, so a lot of damage was done by the tiger's teeth. The lack of crushing damage was notable, indicating that he was being held gently.

At the hospital, when one looks past the neck damage, Roy was also having serious medical issues unrelated to the incident. The theory is that Roy was suffering a silent stroke that the tiger picked up on. He was just trying to get his daddy to safety.

Tiger ER - rip the throat open and apply compression to neck & vertebrae with teeth

2014-03-26 07:17:51 AM
The tiger had performed 2,000 times without incident.

There was a Las Vegas Police and Homeland Security investigation to determine if there was "economic terrorism" related to Las Vegas.  It was theorized that some hormone was sprayed causing the cat to react. They also theorized that it could have been the work of a militant homophobe. All these proved to be unfounded.

It satisfied Roy, and the dead cat won't be attacking anyone now, so it hardly seems like the end of the world.

so? abused spouses go back to their spouses all the time because a BS excuse satisfied them. That doesn't make it true.

I wasn't implying that the world was going to end. Just pointing out a BS rationalization.

You really don't understand felines at all.

I have no doubt that Mantecore was operating out of a misguided sense of fear for Horn's safety, but when you hear reports of cats eating their owners after death etc. it is usually as a result of desperation on the part of the cat- ever hear of people resorting to cannibalism when faced with starvation?

Granted cats are far more emotionally aloof than primates and canines and it really can be tough to figure out what's going on in their cat heads.

I would tend to agree, because if a tiger wants you dead, I'm sure death would occur pretty darn quickly.

Yeah, I'm not talking about house cats. I'm talking about big cats. They tend to rip the guts out of their prey to lighten them up, and then drag the body off to a bush somewhere to eat.

Farm cats do that to larger prey too. And really, to tigers humans aren't that much trouble to drag around in the old mouth. Having the control not to bite through a vital artery? Guess that depends on the animal but I'd hate to find out.

Well, it might have something to do with the fact that many times in such situations the housecats have gone for weeks etc. before being found and had lost several pounds due to not being fed properly. I guess "observations made by a vet" could count as a snowflake-like power.
