Why is the police dept M-F 9-5? Policing seems like it should be a 24hr kind of job.

Also, "it's from a police stations"?

Well now we can commit crimes after 5 knowing we wont get caught. How could you not know in this day and age that the police station is on video 24/7.

They contract with the much larger adjoining city Gresham to provide police services. Troutdale is very small, one of those blink and you miss it type of towns.

Now here's a stupid question, but what gave them the right to confiscate his skateboard?  Did he get his due process under the law or was it just "Hey skateboard douche, this is what you get for shoplifting!  YOINK!" ?  Or was this a "This skateboard was used in the commission of a crime.  Skateboard douche was using it when he stole from that store."?

That was my question as well. I'm not sure how shoplifting and confiscating a skateboard fit together. Fortunately the author knew and found it so minor a point that it didn't need to be included.
