Most of the people who would've voted for EA were too busy playing Titanfall

Yeah, my bracket is fine so far.  But thanks for the advice.

Yeah, I can't imagine it was just a massive coincidence that game just happened to come out a little before this tourny started up once again...

AT&T. So much for deregulation.

My money is on Comcast in that particular battle.

I have always called them Electronic Farts. Because I am childish.

I know it's a vote among people who spend a lot of time on the internet, but for Tebow's sake, why do people vote for EA over companies like Bank of America, whose board should have been thrown in jail a few years ago, or HSBC? Seriously, laundering money for terrorist groups should get SOMEONE at your company drug into The Hague, let alone getting voted "Worst Company"

2014-03-24 09:17:53 PM
Why not Comcast?

They basically just mugged Netflix in broad daylight so yeah.

Aetna should have advanced. Yeah Ticketmaster sucks, but it doesn't have (and use) the power to completely ruin someone's life like Aetna does.

EA's decisions are not based on a Consumerist article.

So they pitted Comcast against Yahoo.  They only complaint I have with either is that Yahoo farked up my email and won't let me revert to the old functional format.  And since email is my only connection to Yahoo, Yahoo wins. Or loses.  Whateva.

People who have mortgages and care about financial news don't vote in internet polls on crappy websites.

I wouldn't exactly call it mugged since the deal cuts out one of Netflix's middle men and puts their servers right inside of Comcast days centers. The deal had upsides for both companies, especially since long term Netflix will likely grow at the expense of cable TV, which will hit Comcast where it hurts eventually.

Data centers, not days centers.

This. Same thing with EA. No matter how bad they are they are nowhere near as bad as like Dole and Chiquita, who overthrew governments and had people killed to further their businesses back in the old days. By comparison ruining Sim City is small time.

Being evil is in a bank's DNA. They can't help it. Non-financials have a choice whether or not to suck. But with banks, it's pretty much baked in.

2014-03-24 09:38:13 PM
I loathe EA to the point where it would take a miracle for me to ever purchase something from them again. But they never deserved the title of "worst company." We've got banks robo-signing foreclosures on people who have never missed a payment, telecommunications companies holding free speech for ransom, food companies trying to artificially create a water shortage, energy companies that try to hide and downplay the hideous pollution they cause, news organizations that act as wholly-owned subsidiaries of political parties, manufacturing corps that profit from child labor, arms manufacturers who rally for war, and an entire swath of megacorps that are trying to subvert the democratic process in general.

EA's actually kind of saintly in comparison.

2014-03-24 09:39:10 PM
I hate a lot of those companies, but Comcast and Ticketmaster would top my list.

Condorcet's Voting Paradox

The aggregated "group preference" doesn't have to make any kind of sense relative to any voter's individual preference.

Also, an individual's preferences generally don't need to make any kind of sense. If you do a pairwise competition, someone might prefer A to B, B to C, and C to A. If you asked them to rank all three alternatives, they might give you the list A-B-C. Yes, those are real things that happen.

It's not a paradox.  It's just that voting is not transitive.   That is was ever called a "paradox" is silly.

I really thought The Consumerist was going to be 'Worst Company in America' what happened?

Lululemon is Canadian, isn't it? And really? Worst company nomination because size 12s were trying to shove their jelly into size 4 stretch pants?

The banks should get extra consideration since they Fark us in a myriad of ways. The mortgage business put us in homes we couldn't afford and then took them back; commodities shops helped spike prices around the globe, leading to starvation and poverty; on the equities side they manipulate prices and rip everyone off via bogus stock valuations and churn-and-burn trading strategies (and high frequency trading). There's more, I'm sure

Target had a bad round one match up against Micky D's.  But then again, maybe somebody hacked the voting servers.

Well, if you want to go in that direction then De Beers Diamonds should hold the crown.

It's either going to be Koch or Comcast in the end, I think.

Isn't Comcast buying Time Warner?  It's like a nascar team, having more than one pony in the race.  Kind of like picking either Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon, either way they win and we lose.

2014-03-24 10:25:01 PM
I'm a customer of about half of those companies, but I've personally had pretty good experiences with them.  Even Wells Fargo, who bought my mortgage and has my 401K.  Bank of America too, and I shop at Target.  Pick up breakfast sammiches at Mickey D's occasionally.

I'm a danger to society it seems.

I'm just shocked that Apple didn't even make the bracket this year. I guess the latest iPhone 9000x was just too shiny for anyone to bother nominating them?

BofA is still in it, and I believe they're going to win over the airline in the next round of voting. Now, whether they'll beat Walmart after that (because no way is A&F more evil and/or worse than Wally World) is another matter entirely.

Let's not forget that a merger between those two will only foster lower pricing for services!

My Bracket is still 100%.  EA as worst in america only because it is an online poll, and thus often voted on by autistic vidya addicts.

Its only a video game company. The rest of the list is people farking with your money and your food.

Time Warner is awesome.

/paid spokesperson who will happily tell you how bad they suck if they ever put the TV filter on.

American Airlines vs. Bank of America in the second round? What crappy seeding, that should be a Final Four matchup at least.

2014-03-24 11:18:16 PM
TWC sucks so hard... raises the damn price of my service every month for no reason other than greed. Had to deal with it due to a lack of alternatives, but google Fiber's coming to my neighborhood next month, so I'm pretty much ecstatic.

+1TWC, hope you follow Blockbuster.

So another arbitrary consumerist list based entirely on emotions instead of real metrics and performance numbers the real world relies on?  Must be a day that ends with Y.

I can definitely sympathize. I am hoping internet TV alternatives and advances in wireless broadband send them the way of the landline phone.

There are 3 companies which are political in nature, mainly hated by liberals, in the next round.  You could argue most are but 3 big ones.    Will this end up being a political bracket?

2014-03-24 11:49:26 PM
Look, obviously all of Time Warner's customers are happy with the service and value they get - if they weren't they would simply use an alternative cable provider. Free market FTW.

2014-03-24 11:51:17 PM
This "Worst Company" thing is heavily skewed away from industries where the majority of companies suck -- for example finance, banking, and insurance.

2014-03-25 12:05:43 AM
American Airlines might go far this year after merging with the vortex of suck that is US Airways.

/Still rooting for a Comcast vs. TWC just for the lulz
