No Florida tag?

If only it were 1945 they'd have gotten away with it.

fusillade762: No Florida tag?

Better not to spoil the German illusion, I would guess.

Wonder what they thought the police had on them.  I have to assume that they thought they had warrants or something.

Current Resident: Why did they shoot a dead officer?

My guess? Drug related stuff.

The cop busts them with drugs while they're high, so they light him up and take off. They get home, sober up a bit, and realize what they've done, then kill themselves because it's much better to kill yourself than to face the American legal system. At least, if you're not rich.

And that's why the war on drugs is so freaking awful. I'm not saying that's what factually DID happen, but it's very likely. The fact that such a horrible scenario is likely is why the law needs reform.

So a couple of under 20 somethings shot a cop for unknown reasons, then killed themselves? Yeah,,, That's what kids are doing these days,, let's run with that. Did the cop try to taze one of them for no reason? Did the cop try to rape the dudes girlfriend after tazing the dude for no reason? Did the cop show up and catch them farking and try to taze them both? Did the cop show up while they we're smoking a joint? Did the cop show up and catch one of them throwing a cigarette on the ground and taze them? No,, Let's just say a cop was viciously killed in cold blood by a couple of young people in the prime of their life, because they had a suicide pact to kill the first cop they saw before they offed themselves. Yeah, that works.

Alex Hollinghurst, 17, and Brandon Goode, 18, suspected of shooting dead police officer before killing themselves in Florida

Shot dead is standard newspaper-speak. Makes a shorter compound verb than "shot to death." Used on the west side of the pond as well.

But you notice all the drugs, the fact they were previously arrested a short time ago for having a legal substance (marijuana) in a state with retarded laws.

Basically, they were gettin' high, the cops busted them for a second time, and then everyone wound up dead.

In a decent legal system, the cops would find them with marjuana and offer them advice on where to pick up funyuns.

I know that. But they should've realized that "shot dead police officer" would look goofy. If they wanted to insist on that particular idiom, they could've used "shot police officer dead".

I'll bet the "man and a woman" in the second sentence were supposed to be the people who found the dead cop, but it sounds like they're the ones who shot him.

The sentence is syntactically correct, but semantically, it's a mess.

Some people make movies for the movies themselves. You might consider them 'odd', but these may be the roles for her where she truly got to define a character. I know I sure as shiat wouldn't want her as a mainstream actress, I LIKE that she's in just the kind of movies she's in. Besides, she's under no obligation to us to make "normal" movies. Hell, George Clooney does foreign coffee commercials to pay the bills so that he can have his time and money free to be in more Indie movies... If they don't do well, he still has an income.

Also, I think Juliette Lewis has been spending more time with her band...

I went to both middle and high school in Orange County and have always had a healthy distrust of the OCPD.  This distrust was, in my opinion, validated, when officers killed my friend's younger brother, Eric May.

He was armed with a fork and officers at the scene chose to shoot him to death rather than use the less than lethal alternatives they were equipped with.

Anyhow, to get back to the story at hand, does it seem strange to anyone else that suspects in the past three OCPD officers killings have all decided to commit suicide by self inflicted gunshot wounds immediately after?

Officer Robert German, Killed 03/2014 - Suspects Brandon Goode (17) and Alexandria Hollinghurst (18) are believed to have commited suicide.

Officer Jonathan Scott Pine, Killed 02/2014 - Suspect Benjamin Holtermann (28) shot himself in the head. A 9mm handgun was found near his body.

Officer Brandon Coates, killed 12/2010 - Suspect Brandon Lyles (29) committed suicide about 30 minutes later after being cornered near his parents' Orlando home.

While these suspects were all likely guilty of attempted murder is it OK execute them without a trial (if that indeed is whats going on in Orange County)?

That could indeed be a possibility, is it protocol for an officer to patrol a wealthy gated community at 4 in the morning, not to mention by himself?
I think it is far likelier though that the fraternity of law enforcement is doling out street justice when it is one of their own who is the victim of a homicide.

Checked out several articles.  Two items stood out.  Her family reportedly said that they the young lady wouldn't quit exiting the home during the night, through one window, or other. and that she had started cutting herself (supposedly owing to the bad influence of her boyfriend).

Speaking of lack of effective mental health interventions (from another couple of articles):

"When he was 16 years old, Brandon Goode painted his face black, covered the windows in his Central Florida home with blankets, armed himself with an axe, and then waited for his mother to arrive.   When Connie Goode walked in the house, she told Polk County deputies, Brandon pinned her between a table and a wall and demanded she accept his father's divorce settlement. The axe resting on his shoulder."

He was charged with felony assault but mother refused to press charges.  What was most interesting was that the `divorce settlement' had been reached a year before this incident took place.  That is IM Haldol territory, if the above is accurate.

laxpimpj: is it protocol for an officer to patrol a wealthy gated community at 4 in the morning, not to mention by himself?

Uh, yeah. That's what "gated community" means. gated (n) = "We can afford police service."

But cops are pretty expensive and Florida, for all the weird news, isn't actually that dangerous. So in small towns, they only send them out in ones. It's common practice.

Unless they don't need him to do that.  And order him not to follow.

laxpimpj: lack of warmth: laxpimpj: laxpimpj: I went to both middle and high school in Orange County and have always had a healthy distrust of the OCPD.  This distrust was, in my opinion, validated, when officers killed my friend's younger brother, Eric May.
http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2009-10-29/news/0910280242_1_off ic er-shot-grand-jury-grand-jurors

Scarier thought, a cop killed German, then killed the kids to pin it on.  I get the suspicious thoughts, but it sucks to have no real proof ourselves to really say.

That could indeed be a possibility, is it protocol for an officer to patrol a wealthy gated community at 4 in the morning, not to mention by himself?
I think it is far likelier though that the fraternity of law enforcement is doling out street justice when it is one of their own who is the victim of a homicide.

Other articles show that he spotted suspicious activity and called for back up before the incident.  If the cop was set up by another cop, that's a pretty meticulous way of doing things, getting two innocent people to act suspicious while another officer who thinks he's alone calls for back up and then you take them all out and stage the scene and clean up your own evidence in the minutes before said back up arrives.  Not really how I'd draw that up, but then again I've never tried it myself.

LazyMedia: That is a terrible waste of a hot British teenager, stupid bad American boyfriend (until further evidence arises, I'm going to make the very sound deduction that it was his gun and his stupid decision-making here). I know you were 18 and your brain hadn't finished baking yet, but still. BAD!

Update: both kids left suicidal notes and left town. They were spotted in a drug store parking lot, gave a questionable explanation of who they were, and when asked to exit the vehicle drove off recklessly. Police obtained arrest warrant and issued a be-on-the-lookout for the vehicle and passengers. Deceased cop finds them walking around an EXTREMELY expensive neighborhood late at night, makes contact, calls for backup, gets fatally shot, backup arrives, backup hears two gunshots in the distance and take cover until medics arrive, backup soon finds two dead teens in the bushes of a house in the neighborhood.

tl;dr: Case of deceased cop being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But why were they suicidal in the first place?

It could have something to do with their drug convictions, no? Being arrested sucks. Being arrested for something that's actually legal in the same country you're in, just not locally, is absolutely the worst. And, when you're 18, forever is about one week into the future.

Oh OK.  So the police department (being the party that could face potential multi-million dollar lawsuits and with members that could face possible life sentences in prison) said that was the case, huh?  Good enough I guess.

Driving recklessly? Smoking marijuana?? AND in possession of alcohol!?!?  Who knows the scale of crime spree this new age Bonnie and Clyde was planning.  Looking forward to what other information the OCPD will release at their leisure to further establish their deviant character.

BTW, when you say they "left town", you do realize officer German was killed only 25 minutes from where they lived?  Following that logic I "leave town" every day to get to work.  Also, do you think those "suicidal notes" are going to ever be released to the public?  Could they have simply been some lyrics from whatever crappy emo band is popular now scrawled on a napkin?  Mom overreacts calls the authorities?

Dude, the male lived in Polk County, AKA 1.25-1.5 hours away from Windermere. It's also an open and ongoing investigation--will they be released? Yeah, the FOIA guarantees that, will they now? NFW.

Suicide sucks. I heard my friend commit suicide while I was knocking on his door. Could it have been a stupid reason? Sure, most of the time they are.

What's you're point?

/"Legal" is a strange term to use when only two states have barely made it so and it still remains a schedule 1 drug under Federal law (you know, that thing that trumps state law)

Just so you don't feel left out: yeah, the OCSD is going to somehow allow a cover-up of one of their officers by blaming these two kids who were deeply troubled and on the run. You seem like the type who would believe the birther movement or the 9/11 conspiracy theories.

ununcle: brandent: Maybe. I guess she has always played that slightly dull sounding character. Are there any movies where she doesn't act like she has downed too many sleeping pills or is it the one trick she has?

That's like saying are there any good movies with Sylvester Stallone where he doesn't talk the way he does. Why yes,,, I am Juliette Lewis' white knight . Why do you ask?
