phamwaa: specialkae: RTOGUY: I've got a chihuahua and when he's feeling scrappy there is no doubt that chihuahuas are related to "real dogs". Pound for pound there isn't a meaner creature on the planet than the mighty chihuahua and if they were bigger the Spanish would have turned back around and forgot Mexico even existed.

Forced to agree on that point.  We have a Chihuahua/Fox Terrier mix and he's meaner than spit.  Bit the roommate's brother in the naughty bits once.  He's wee and old but a complete arsehole.  Still wouldn't really consider him a guard dog but you don't ever want to get on the wrong side of Mustang.  That would be the biting end :) Should've been named Satan instead.

Same with ours. He'd rather bite you than look at you. He's lucky I haven't yet tried him out for the astronaut program.

But I love the little shiat anyway.

OK, I LOLed for the first time in a long time in a thread.  Going to let Satan, aka Mustang out right now for his evening pee.  I also promise not to launch him into space, at least for tonite :)

ph0rk: Jesus what a bloody mess. That diagram is terrible.

Have they never heard of a cladogram?

Yeah no shiat, they seem to be taking the groupings from the classes in some dog fancy association, not from how those breeds are genetically related.

I thought they were gonig to kick the chihuahua out of some dog association because it was related to a rat?

That thing's just wrong.  Malamutes, Huskies, Pomeranians, Schipperkes, and Samoyeds are all Spitz-type breeds.

And I think the Chow has some mastiff/Central Asian bear dog up in there, not just spitz group.

Greasy mess. Both of them.

Subby -- NOT related to. The chart is about classifications.

Meh.  They are all genetically modified wolves, NdGT said so last week.

//Chihuahua or Rottie, they are just another cat toy.

Russ1642: Hopefully I'm here before the nutjobs assholes that claim the chihuahua is descended from the fennec fox rather than wolves the most annoying, pissing, yapping, piece of crap dogs that ever were. If they, along with their retarded owners would all DIAF the world would be a better place .

HairBolus:

A more interesting question is which breeds have multiple ancestors? Are there cases where say a lap-dog was crossed with a wolf to generate a rat-dog?

The general current picture is no.

Cosmos did it.

Does the Pugapoo count?  (#5 from here).

Lots of dogs!

I wonder if it includes hounds and greyhounds, mongrels, spaniels, curs, shoughs, water-rugs, and demi-wolves.

The Neopolitan Mastiff is the saddest dog of all.

Also, this is wrong in at least one place.  The Newfoundland isn't a mountain dog.  It's bred for cold maritime weather and water, and has webbed toes and a waterproof coat for it.

/the Otterhound is the second saddest dog.
