Can't see the video, but it might be something similar to my csb:

At a game in the 3rd row and this little kid in front of us kept pressing his face up to the glass, even though his parent told him not to.  He learned a hard lesson when Scott Stevens checked someone into him.  He sat in his seat for the rest of the game.

I really wish this could've happened to the guy in the front row at my first Dallas Stars game. The entire farking game all he did was bang on that glass. From what other people around us said, he's just a rich spoiled brat whose parents got him season tickets and he does this EVERY GAME. It was pretty enjoyable otherwise, but that guy was a total douche.

Gotta love those.  I met one, except it was that his parents got him a year pass to all the shows performing center so he decides to show up completely trashed to a TSO show.  Security finally threw him out though, so that was nice.

I've never seen anyone feel the brunt of the hit but I've seen someone find out the hard way that just because you can place your beer on the ledge doesn't mean you should...
One time I saw some kid in the student section at a college game on what I assumed was a first or second date; he was paying all of his attention on his date and none to the play on the ice.  This was before the nets so where he was sitting it wasn't the brightest idea but he was trying to score so he didn't care...long story short, someone takes a shot, it's deflected and pops up into the crowd.  This kid is leaning toward his date, beer in hand and the puck lands in the beer, knocks the cup out of his and all of the beer lands right on his date.  She sat there stunned, covered in beer and then got up and ran out of the area followed shortly thereafter by him once he figured out what happened.  No one got hurt but it was hilarious.

I'm friends with a sales manager for a long time sponsor that  has their name along the boards at the United Center, and he gets the "Wirtz Seats" for a number of games and finds a way to bring me along a few times a year. Someone gets that lesson at almost every game.

You would think, after the first 2 or 3 times, she would stay seated.

I've seen hundreds of hockey games and I've never had the desire to sit that close...a friend of mine used to have tickets that were a couple of row behind the home bench so there was a bit of a buffer between the ice and the seats.  I one time did see someone clear a puck and it deflect into the bench area and ricochet in a manner that nailed the assistant coach in the back of the neck.  That looked like it hurt.
I understand that it's the closest you can get but the slight probability of getting showered in glass or having the puck go through it is enough that I'd rather be a little farther away.  I don't want to end up on SportsCenter for getting destroyed by a wayward slapshot or being the guy involved in the check into the boards who isn't wearing pads and a helmet.

I am not a hockey fan but I could watch this video all day  !   It was especially worth the five or so slowmo replays.  I hope they played this on the jumbotron over and over all game.

yeah the best real fan seats at a hockey game are center ice right above the glass. Sitting at ice level is a nice novelty but not anyway to actually watch a game.

Did she actually get knocked down because of the hit on the other side of the plexiglass, or did she fall back into her seat as a reaction to the sudden hit on the glass right in front of her face?

lostcat: Did she actually get knocked down because of the hit on the other side of the plexiglass, or did she fall back into her seat as a reaction to the sudden hit on the glass right in front of her face?

The glass (and entire board assembly) flexes.  If it didn't, it'd be dangerous for the players.   Some of the experiments with rigid seamless glass in the 90s confirmed that.  The further up the glass you go, the more it can move.  At shoulder height, a bang like that can move it 4-5".  So yeah, she got thrown back by the glass itself, probably got banged right in the middle of the forehead by it.

It gives you an intimacy that isn't available sitting farther up.  You sacrifice the omniscient view for that but with the "press box" view you are detached.  I like sitting on the glass right in front of the plane of the goal on the side my team shoots at twice.

Your mileage may vary, but I spent years standing behind the boards at the local rinks watching my kids play and that view is what's right for me.

Really? I went to a Caps game in Dec and was bored out of my skull. Girls field hockey has fewer interruptions of play.

If you area going to sit below the glass behind the nets is preferable...sometimes if you're in a corner or certain places along the sides there are random blind spots down the rink.  In college I usually sat just high up enough that the glass wasn't in the way of most of the ice...you had to pay attention but it also made it possible to make sure that anything you yelled was heard on the ice.
I don't heckle any more though, it was fun as a student but as an adult it's just kind of a dick move.
