Spoiler:

1. all the male characters die, usually in bad ways.
2. all the female characters get raped, even the really old and ugly ones.
3. and sometimes they also die in bad ways.

Heard of it.  Don't know what it is.  I'll continue to blabber in class just so everyone else gets spoiled.  For the lulz.

Done in one. If you assume that everyone ends up dead/maimed/raped you won't be too far wrong.

2014-03-24 01:59:56 PM
If this were an American classroom, the parents of the children would sue the crap out of this teacher. And the courts would uphold it, putting him out of work. Countersuits would then be brought forth against the parents for subjecting their children/minors to a show filled with rape, murder, rape and incest. That, too, would hold up. The parents would then be forced to sue HBO, who would in turn sue G.R.R. Martin, who would then commit suicide because of the media backlash. The civil suits alone for homicidal culpability against the families will bankrupt the entire school district.

/As the families are one by one sent to live in the street, the Rains of Castamere will play in the background.

Because People in power are Stupid: Spoilers? Fine. Daenerys kills Varys and ultimately Aegon (VI).

But you knew that. Hodor.

Jon Snow siezes control of Stannis' body to control the situation on the Wall and become the Azor Ahai.  In this guise he has a physical bloodline to the last uncontested Baratheon king, as well as his own actual descent from Targareyns.  He marries Daenerys, who is technically his aunt.  Tyrion is technically both his brother-in-law and his uncle.

They all settle down in a William Faulkner novel and live happily ever after.

I know what you mean. I'll be in a thread and people will be talking about a non-primary character and something they will do in the future or will not, based on books vs. TV and I have no idea who they're talking about.

This is pretty much how I think of the characters: https://imgur.com/gallery/11bIw

I recall one time in school where we were supposed to be discussing some book we were reading in small groups and my group was off task enough that the teacher called us out and made us stand up in front of the class and talk about what we were talking about...we were sort of talking about the book but were going off on some extreme tangents.  Once our analysis of the story went to alien abduction, cross dressing, zombies, and incestuous relationships she realized she'd made a horrible mistake in judgment and decided it was probably best for our group discussions to stay within the group instead of sharing them aloud with the class.
I also had a professor in college who would occasionally shut the class up by finding the most awful German language music she could find and would randomly start class by blaring it at full volume...then she'd hand out the lyrics and we'd learn what the lyrics actually meant.  Nothing like being hung over in German class and being greeted by Rammstein or Falco.

Back to the lecture at hand...is the South Park episode making fun of Game of Thrones pretty accurate?  I know some people who are really into it but anything involving dragons and royalty isn't something I can get into.

I have no idea what I was thinking.  I'll blame it on this raging sinus headache I have because the weather can't figure out if we're going to have winter forever or spring.  It just keeps bouncing between snow and 65.

OK...I'm pretty sure I don't even get the channel it's on but between what I initially knew about it and the fact that it sounds like a TV show based off of a novel Mr. Garrison might have written I'll skip it.

I actually started watching it after seeing the South Park episode and hearing everyone talk about it incessantly. I usually hate fantasy genre stuff (dragons, witches, a mystical land that always seems reminiscent of Europe in the middle ages), but I ended up really getting into the show. The fantasy stuff doesn't play much of a role, mostly it's just a really good, violent, character-driven show.

Good for him.  I'm sort of disappointed, though, how this thread hasn't yet degenerated into a brawl between "smug fanboys who feel the need to prop themselves up by demonstrating their superior command of the material and who want to show that they were there before this whole thing blew up" and "functional illiterates who feel the need to rationalize their failure to read these (or any) books for pleasure and who feel that it's the responsibility of others to keep them away from years-old material".  C'mon, people... fight!

To be fair, the boobs to dick ratio is incredibly huge.  I mean really, what, 2 or 3 penises compared to a few hundred tits?

Millennium: And, worst of all, the books are never finished.

1st rule of fantasy series -- wait until the series is complete before starting it.
2nd rule of fantasy series -- fantasy series obey Zeno's 2nd Paradox

\also known as the Robert Jordan Rules.
\\Mainly because unlike sci-fi authors, fantasy authors don't understand calculus
