I've never understood the mindset of [younger] people who feel it is somehow bad to get older. I mean, would they prefer to simply dies rather than live to anything above 30?!

Stars lying about their age is nothing new...as long as they are not using it for nefarious purposes (like claiming to be a teen when they are in their mid-twenties to still bang teenagers or something) then who really cares?

2014-03-24 01:33:57 PM
And even as a media star he looks way better at 50 than a lot of other people his age.

I would be surprised if he is somewhere in between.... When i was in high school back in the early 90's, he was already out there, and i would've put his around 25.

I am shocked to find out that being rich and famous does not halt the aging process. Shocked, I say!

What's amusing about famous people lying about their age is it's pretty easy to check. Even before the intertubes, it wasn't difficult. Just required access to public records.

He's older than he stated, but he's already sold the records now. Can't get a refund just because he was old enough to finger-banged your mom in the Summer of '79.

I remember a few years back, I was standing in line at a food trailer at an event. There were some girls in their early teens talking about a friend of theirs. "Did you hear that Debbie is going out with a  really oldguy?" "No how old is he?" "I think he is something like 20 years old!"

I felt elderly after hearing that conversation. I was 25 at the time.

27. Good musicians should die at 27.

So the article's source is a random guy who's never even met Jay-Z and the article's author (1) can't even correctly spell the name of the person being written about and (2) doesn't understand how high school works.

Seems legit.

If people dislike you because of your age, you need some better friends.

Dying young is for fools.

2014-03-24 02:07:20 PM
So Jay-Z is 40, but Shawn Catar is 50?  I don't see the problem?  Are we all upset that Jennifer Lawrence isn't 16, even though she plays Katniss?  Or that Yearly Smith isn't actually 8yr old when voicing Lisa Simpson?

This may be a shocker to many, but entertainers that choose a different name, often create entire fake personas to go with that name (see: Slash, Vanilla Ice, Andrew "Dice" Clay, Marshall "Eminem" Mathers, Ali G., etc...).  These personas often are what gets them discovered and makes them money, so they hang on to them, eventually blurring the lines between who they and the character is.

As long as they aren't claiming to be 16 in order to bang high school kids, or 67 to scam Social Security or other age related benefits, who cares?  It's part of the entertainment act.

My teenage monster seems to find it quite fascinating that I am "such-and-such months younger" or "this many years older" than this star or that one.

Of course, every one of them looks better than I do. My explanations are, "Well, in six months when she's MY age she'll look just as bad as I do" or "Well, sure, he LOOKS younger, but that's because he's a big star and can afford personal trainers / plastic surgery / better nutrition / not to have teenagers who ask me these farking questions all day long!!!"

Aging is an unfortanately reality for a performer.  Particularly vocalists.  Look at poor Billy Joel.  He's still performing, but he sounds nothing like he did 30 years ago.

If Jay Z can still perform as he did when he first got famous, eh...  More power to him.  Other than that, it's really not an issue.

I think the deal is.. that younger people will be okay with eventually turning 50 (or whatever age)...but it's a long, gradual process that will include people from their generation also turning 50.

"50" to them today is part of a group they don't belong to.

Upon finding out that Liam Neeson was 61 my first thought was "I hope I look that good at 61".
My second thought was that I don't look that good now (40).

When you're five, anybody over 10 is old. When you're in elementary school, anybody in Jr. High is old. When you're in Jr. High, anybody in high school is old. When you're in high school, anybody over 20 is old. When you're college age, anybody over 25 is old. Then the rule changes to anybody that's 10 years older than you is old until you reach 60. Once you're in your 60s, anybody who is 85 years and above is old. Once you hit 70, anybody your age or older is old. Because you're officially old, you old bastard.

I can't imagine rapping would be nearly as hard on the vocal chords as actual singing.

Even if he IS 50, who cares? He's not an athlete, though music does share a lot with athletics. Still, being 50 usually doesn't mean the end of someone's musical career except in the sense that they usually run out of really fresh ideas and end up repeating their old act. Even that is not inevitable, and Jay-Z seems to still be doing interesting stuff, as well as a lot of production side stuff.

When you just got 9 Grammy nominations, does anyone really care about your age?

2014-03-24 03:59:28 PM
Meh, if you look the age you're lying about then I don't see the problem. I do it all the time. If people think you're 20-something while having the knowledge and wisdom of a 40-something they think you're some sort of badass wizard.
