Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss

/they did not miss well

I've flown planes in and out of that airport on a dozen occasions. Regardless of the weather or the time of year, the cross winds are always a biatch.

The article doesn't say, but my bet is they got blown off their line during a landing approach and went straight into the trees.

At least the trees broke their fall.

Eh, the ground would have done it eventually.

Meh, they walked away.  Sounds like a good landing to me.

That's not flying, that's falling gracefully.

Considering the weather of late, I'd bet the winds were worse than normal.

Also, CS,B about the Wright Memorial: When I was a grad student at ECU, I was the GA for the world's foremost expert on the Wright Brothers; we'd get private collectors come to the school every so often to have Wright antiques verified (a table Wilbur built out of a shipping crate for their camp, for example).

We got a call one day from the NPS, saying that theives had attempted to steal a chunk of copper chain from the memorial. It was apparently the easiest heist to ever solve, because there is only one such copper chain in the US, and whomever the criminals went to attempting to fence their stolen goods, knowing the fence was rare and fearing he was in hot water himself, turned them in.

They're a menace to themselves and everything else in the air... yes, birds too.

It's not as strange as the irony would have it.   There IS an active airport (First Flight) in the park.

Have you seen anyone flying a kite lately?  The trees are starving.

"The airplane stays up because it doesn't have the time to fall."

Looks like Orville came up with the reason why satellites orbit.
