Billions and billions of marijuanas.

I'll bet that if you lit a doob right now and put on Dark Side of the Moon, this show's imagery would match the album's sonic progression EXACTLY!

Let's try it.

Isaac Newton was half Galileo, half Glenn Beck.

Welp....I'm out.

Maybe they'll have differential geometry.

The Googles Do Nothing: I'm watching basketball.  You nerds can keep pretending this show makes you smarter when in fact your liberal arts degrees prove you know jack shiat.

We never said it did, but it's a hell of a lot more educational than watching people who can't even spell their names throw a ball into a ring.

2014-03-23 09:29:12 PM
I like the subtle references to the idea that Newton has Asperger's.

2014-03-23 09:29:18 PM
And once more. Twice more. Now thrice, nope, four..ish?

This game is bullsh*t.

you realize astronomy is one of the seven liberal arts right?

Um....shouldn't you be wearing GLOVES?!!?

2014-03-23 09:30:46 PM

Adolf Oliver Nipples: Benevolent Misanthrope: Sighhhhh... looks like I can only get episodes 1 and 2.  Those videos I thought were episode 3 are actually a string of trailers.  Unless I'm in the wrong place.

How can so many people be having trouble watching something that's on broadcast television? No cable? No antenna? Do you even have a TV? If so, why? You can't watch anything anyway.

I said it above, I'm too remote in Northern Canada to pull in broadcast.  4.5 hours drive from the nearest antenna.  So f*ck off.

might have been that, or he just may have been a jerk.

HindiDiscoMonster: cameroncrazy1984: CanisNoir: Aquapope: Don't forget that Creationists are pissed that Cosmos hasn't given a fair shake to their theories.  They're doing that tonight.  A very detailed and thorough analysis of all of the science in creationist theory.  It's supposed to be between the 47th and 48th seconds of tonight's show.  Don't blink.

What's interesting is that the Creation stories are fairly accurate metaphores of The Big Bang and the evolution of the universe and life on Earth. Not bad for bronze age tribesmen.

Well, other than the timing and the method, and the origin of life, sure.

met·a·phor /ˈmetəˌfôr,-fər/
noun: metaphor; plural noun: metaphors

1. a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

/that should help you to understand.

I know what a metaphor is. The metaphor still gets it wrong.

geom_00: Um....shouldn't you be wearing GLOVES?!!?

FAIRLY certain those are copies or reproductions.

I think NDT is onto our little drinking game and is just f*cking with us at this point.

"Newton, Newton, Newton, Newton...."

Wait, what were we talking about? I have to pee. Who the hell is the black guy on TV?

I don't feel good.

Cerebral Ballsy: Benevolent Misanthrope: Hello, everyone!

I have no cable, and therefore no Cosmos :(, but wanted to drop in and say Hi y'all.

What's shakin'?

What is this cable you speak of?

I am watching on digital antenna.

Northern Canada.  Remote.  No OTA.  Cut cable because it's not worth $200/mo for a few hours a month.  I stream.

Jesus.  No one reads past the Boobiess here.

JerseyTim: Why do all these great scientists look like members of 80s hair metal bands?

They kept their heads shaved because of the lice problem.  What you see them wearing in paintings are wigs.
A more elaborate wig was status symbol.

2014-03-23 09:33:31 PM
Clearly they should have marketed "The History of Fish" as a cookbook.

2014-03-23 09:33:32 PM
I find this History of Fish difficult to masturbate to.

It's 2017, bro. We've got our second black president, and he's gonna terraform mars. Needs to build up the science base first.

I'd like to go.

It's pretty nice but I avoid the outer rings. Too much riff raff and crime. Stick to the inner rings and you will be ok.

HindiDiscoMonster: geom_00: Yea...then Newton invented Calculus.

You did SO much good in life Issac....but you HAD to invent Calculus.

if you think Calculus is nasty try Differential Equations... longest damn math ever.... like marathon math or something.

I never got past Calc II in college....and I got past Calc I with a "D"

Funny thing about Wren and Newton, back in the day Wren was considered the smartest man in England and the smartest Englishman ever. Something that persisted until after he and Newton were dead. The whole public fascination with Newton is pretty much the work of a Frenchman you may have heard of, Voltaire.

2014-03-23 09:35:08 PM
Waiting for NDT to recreate his meme gesture.

That's because you're the only person on Earth who can't get Fox and, in spite of apparent Internet savvy, can't find a stream.

Don't you have a Fox over the air channel?

cameroncrazy1984: You don't get Fox OTA?

Nope.  Too remote here in Northern Alberta.  No OTA TV.

Woo-HOO!  Let's see if I can do that in Canada!

Cosmos streamed on Global for us Canadiyuns.
