Yeah.  He believes in his product, no question about that.

I'm sure they tested the glass many times before doing the commercial. Also, isn't there a risk of ricochet? Or does the glass absorb all the energy of the bullets?

2014-03-23 09:12:08 AM
I double dog dare him to sit behind it for three more rounds. To say nothing of the guy emptying the clip.

He has his safety glasses right there on his head, yet he doesn't use them.

"Life is valuable. Protect it."

Well, that sure does mean a lot coming from the dumbass who willingly asked be shot at just to shill his business product.

How well would this work if you kept shooting the same place as opposed to spraying the whole windshield?

Where do you buy that fancy hair protector that looks like safety glasses?

2014-03-23 11:38:25 AM
One of the Krupps did this same thing a century earlier. Krupp had a new stronger plated armor and had a demo set up where an employee would be shelled while being protected by the armor. The employee chickened out so the head of the company took his place.

Really stupid, they are probably using soft lead rounds, try that with steel AP rounds or even brass jackets.

Ummmmm, he had them on.  You can see him removing his earplugs and then taking his glasses off his face after the shot.

I think they're talking about the guy with the AK

You see that gap between the bottom of the substrate and the steel plate.....?

He was putting a lot of trust in the shooter....if that guy had the wiggles at all he could have put a round through that gap on accident and killed the CEO.

Especially when the shooter is trying to shoot quickly with a semi auto, jerking the trigger and worrying about how it looks on camera....

Its good to trust your product, its better to not accidentally get killed by missing your product.

Well, it beats no protection at all right? And if we are going to play the escalation game, what if the bad guys bring a .50 cal or an RPG or a tank or a precision guided penetrating ballistic missile?

The point of car armor is to give you time to get away. If your driver is good, they arent going to get more than a second or two of clear shooting before you are in evasive maneuvers heading away from them.

Neat trick. Try it with an M1 Garand.

Please.

Eventually you do get a hole, at which point you stick your own 9mm up against the glass and kill your enemy.

(Saw that on some movie a week or so ago, must be true.)

All bullet resistance glass is rated for amount of protection based on what and how many they'll withstand. You can get thin light weight stuff that'll stop a few normal handgun rounds or you can get really thick heavy panels that will stop many rifle rounds. You basically just layer it more and make sure it has enough support in the mounting.

The same holds for most any armor. You decide how much protection is enough for the threat level since more protection is often heavy and bulky. If you really want to stress the outside chance of things no protection would ever be enough. All you'd have to do is get stuck then they could set it on fire, or whatever else to kill you or get you out of your rolling bunker.

My driver takes me downtown in my stretch Abrams tank. It's pretty cushy in the back, with a nice mini fridge and everything.

That was a shiatload of damage for just three rounds spread out. Note all the flaked off shards on the ground. One more round would have blown through, shattered the pane, and killed the idiot behind it without a vest.

I won't be buying from them any time soon.

Not only that, the impact of the shots appeared to shatter the bottom of the windshield frame, leaving a ~2" gap between the glass and the steel plate.  An errant shot after the first would have ensured this man had no more children.

2014-03-23 02:07:24 PM
He didn't risk his life enough. 3 bullets left me wondering why not a 4th, or a grenade. It was obviously tested beforehand and he knew it wouldn't break. Will not buy.

2014-03-23 04:01:46 PM
There was no control. I demand that they try the same test with a placebo (ordinary glass) without telling the boss.

For Science!

2014-03-23 04:41:38 PM
Test is bogus, why didn't he just walk around the barrier and shoot the guy in the head?

2014-03-23 04:59:11 PM
I wonder how many CEO's they go through in a year.

2014-03-23 06:28:56 PM
What?! Why did that guy stop shooting? You're supposed to stand there and just pour rounds into that farker until one of you is dead! I saw some bits chip off -- keep going, you're making progress, man! Speaking of which, who brings only one man to an assault? Where's the rest of the team? Step up, camera guy, holy crap. And how come they didn't use poison gas? He isn't fully enclosed! I bet in real life they'd have used poison gas. Or a rail gun. Yeah, enough rounds with a rail gun and good luck finding a sizeable fragment of anything involved in this demo. What kind of pussy demo doesn't use a rail gun? Or a nuclear weapon. I would never buy so-called bullet-resistant glass unless it can withstand a direct hit from at least a tactical nuke. What a ridiculous ad. It's all totally set up so that he SURVIVES the demo! In real life you don't get to arrange it like that. Oh no, please mister assassin, don't walk around the glass and shoot me, stand over there where there's something between us. I call bullshiat unless the employees release him in the wilderness somewhere with his bulletproof glass and hunt him mercilessly. Let's see whether anyone wants to buy his windshield after they watch him lug it around the bayou for 24 hours. Yeah, didn't think so.

2014-03-23 06:46:07 PM
Ok. I'm impressed.

That a CEO wears flip-flops. The demo was pretty cool, too.

2014-03-23 07:49:39 PM
Would the employee be charged with murder if the CEO had died?

I think I'd be careful to make sure that I didn't shoot the same place twice.

2014-03-23 08:08:48 PM

moeburn: Bullets spin, right?  Do they make bullets shaped like little drill bits?

They do, but it's a laughable gimmic.  A bullet rotates on the order of once for every 10-15 inches of flight.  It's simply not spinning fast enough, relative to its forward motion, to function like a drill bit.

2014-03-23 09:21:37 PM
But did you see the damage done to the windshield?  You can't see out of it anymore, and if the car is moving, you'll run right off the road to your horrible, fiery death.
