I thought conservatives were outraged because the penalty for businesses was being delayed a year or something?

Actually, I did some (very limited) research and I think what is going on has nothing to do with the penalty for businesses with over 50 employees. Drudge is paying estimated tax, and therefore there is a semantic disagreement on whether he is paying the penalty right now. The penalty has not been assessed yet, but if it is assessed, then he will be penalized if he didn't pay it ahead of time. I don't think people on either side of this should be calling each other liars. The fact is, in this country, you do not normally pay your taxes when you file your return - you pay during the preceding year through either withholding or estimated payments.

Anybody else not care? Drudge can afford to pay a penalty, he can afford health insurance, he can probably afford to live without health insurance. And you know what else? He can afford to hire a website developer to pull his stupid ugly website out of the 90s. But he doesn't, and I don't care.

If it's for his business maybe he has insurance, but isn't paying for employees' insurance, in which as he's a douche.

Oh you, and your reasonable, clearly stated facts.

Drudge is a small business, but he was paying his self-employment taxes (no different than than you and I paying throughout the year via our paycheck withdrawals). Since he actually doesn't HAVE to pay his penalty until next April, he's being a martyred ass by guessing his penalty and paying it early.

Because a lie can race around the world 3 times before the truth even gets it its shoes on.

They're banking on grabbing low information voters who will see these ads at least once and not do any research or hear anything pointing out that it's bullshiat.

Just for the record: My wife and I run a small business. We're in our late 50s and make somewhere between 50 and 70k per year. We have been paying  18k per year for something like 7-8 years. Last year my wife begged AnthemBCBS for a better deal, and they lowered it to 14k by raising our deductible to 10k. Now, through arduous persistence with Anthem constantly obstructing  our attempts to sign up with Obama care, she finally prevailed last week. We are now paying 3k a year people. That's a savings of up to 15k a year, which can now pay for shortfalls in other parts of our  personal economy, allowing us to operate in the black for the first time in like a decade. Thanks Obama

If he's only go 3 employees they're probably the same income tax filing. The quarterly payroll stuff would be a different filing.

It's telling that this 'company' would rather pay a fine than provide its employee health insurance. More proof on how some companies drain the welfare system for their own profit.

I think this is a pretty good example of how overly-complex and sometimes contradictory out tax laws are.  It would be nice to simplify them without bickering over the rates.

You should be thanking people like me, who are being required to buy insurance we don't want or need, and over-pay for it in the process, because we're healthy and thereby manage to avoid the vast majority of health care costs, which are incurred due to:

Yes, due to our being eligible, I assume we are getting some subsidy, subject to our 2014 tax return.

He wrote it that way for a reason.

He had his response about the small business and quarterly assessment ready to go, too. If he wrote it to make sense the first time...he would've just stated he was paying the small business quarterly estimate in advance of 2014 tax filings. However, that is a reasonable thing and people wouldn't get outraged over it.

But, if he writes it like this he can imply that he is paying individual penalties (grabbing low information people) and then he has a point to fall back on if questioned by people that know what's up.

It's win/win for him. He scares the idiots and he gets to make a stupid point against the intelligent people thinking which gets him another win for the idiots.

If having to pay premiums for health insurance upsets you this much, those Medicare payroll taxes must drive you to cut yourself.

Anybody else remember when having insurance was common sense and not a part of an authoritarian, communist plot?
