My bracket's better than it's ever been before.  27/32 with the West and East still intact.  It could have been even higher had I stuck to my initial picks of SFA, Dayton, and Kentucky, but I'm sure I had other gut picks that I ended up changing for the better.

On another note, does anybody know why there are only two games airing prior to 5:15 EDT and then six games crammed into the evening?  I guess it's probably because CBS, TNT, and TBS all want to run games in primetime, it just seems inefficient.

Primetime money I'm sure.

I miss the old tv coverage: watch 4 tips, see regional coverage for a while, watch 4 games end of half, go back to which ever game is coming out of halftime, then see the end of the close games. Now I need to be my own director.

This.

It's a damn shame the NCAA won't condense the field back to 64 teams.

Sure are a lot of empty seats for a game in Orlando with Florida playing and a noon start.

Ditto. I understand why they did it, but it's a major pain not having cable now.

C'mon, Pitt! I'd rather play ya'll again in the Final 4 than Florida. They massacred us last tournament.

I don't mind the 68 teams, I just think it's stupid how the play-in system is setup. They should all be 16 seeds in the first four. That way, these teams have their own showcase and each of them have a legit chance to win a NCAA tournament game, which I'm sure helps for recruiting. Having 11 seeds in one bracket, then 12 seeds in another in the play-in makes no sense.

I'd put the last eight at-large teams in the play in games instead.  Each conference should get a full berth in the tournament.

some teams that win their conference tourneys deserve to be 16 seeds but shouldn't be in the first four. in my opinion the first four games should be the last 8 at large bids. regardless.

They didn't want to make the play-ins all 16-seeds because it would have led further to marginalization of the low-major schools.  By putting the Last Four In into the playoff as well, it gives the NCAA Tournament some semblance of fairness.

My guess is that some time in the next few years we'll see the play-in games expand to 16 teams: the bottom eight teams playing for 16 seeds and the last eight at-large teams playing for 11/12/13 seeds for a 72-team tournament.

At that point, you might as well expand to 96 or 128 teams.

Yuck.

Somebody in the ECU History Grad Students / Alumni pool had Duke winning the whole thing. I posted a joke bracket for my fat-ass cat based on what mascot sounded tastier (Sir Robin's Final Four is Colorado, Texas, Delaware, and the champion North Dakota State).

"My cat's bracket" is currently outscoring his.

Oh, that's coming.  Especially if Division I keeps expanding (up to 351 teams now from 326 just a decade ago).  And this is kind of how it went when the tournament was expanding to 64 teams, too.  They went from 32 in 1978 to 64 in 1985 but it wasn't one big jump.  First they went to 40, then 48, then 52, then 53 before finally getting up to 64.  I would expect that they'll go to 72 and then maybe 80 before they finally get to 96.

Georges Niang, one of our key players, broke his foot in last night's game & is out the rest of the tourney. We'll make adjustments but we're a totally different team without him.
