Sometimes you need to make an example out of someone to get noticed:

They beat UCLA last year, so there's at least a few people who have heard of them.

Top engineering school? Yea, they're pretty good, but I would say there are a dozen or so schools better for engineering than them.

I still think Pacific Tech is better, but there are rumors that they are doing a lot of military weapons research.

"The programs below are schools whose highest engineering degree offered is a bachelor's or master's."

Yep.  If you aren't offering a doctorate in anything, you're not top 10.

Cal Poly isn't a terrible school, but it's not as good as you seem to think.  All it's rankings are for schools without a doctorate programs so they are pretty much useless.  They aren't being compared to Berkeley, MIT, Ga Tech and Cal Tech.

Cal Poly was the only team I ever got on those NCAA Pepsi bottle caps back in the late 90's.

No, I'm pretty sure the sports world knows where Stanford is.

We were in San Luis Obisbo once. It's like Disney designed a city. The most oppressively clean place I've ever been in. And, as near as I can tell, nobody works there. No smoke stacks. No factories. It's not on the beach or in the mountains. We walked around for awhile while the wives and children tried to shop. We went in one place that was as wide as a door jamb. Not an exaggeration. One person at a time could be in the store. It sold, iirc, jewelry. Hand made jewelry.

/GaTech, people.

I felt bad making a joke about Cal Poly. So I made fun of someone more worth making fun of, too.

Bag on CalPoly SLO for not being a PhD level institution, but the engineers I've worked with from there have all been really good. Their grads appear to be good at Getting Sh*t Done.

If I needed to start a company with a pack of engineers, I'd get one or two specialist PhD types, and fill out the rest of the roster with CalPoly or RPI type folks.

/MIT grad; too many of us and shiat never gets done due to useless geekery.

Of course the sports world knows about Cal Poly SLO. That's where Craig T. Nelson went to coach football, bringing along a headstrong young Tom Cruise to play for him.
