HighOnCraic: OtherLittleGuy: TV's Vinnie: El Freak: FlashHarry: doubled99: American Idol's ratings have gone the same way. Which racist controversy is responsible?

i believe that AI's ratings have dipped because it has simply overstayed its welcome.

ratings fall for many reasons. in this case, the exposure of the head of the DD clan as a vile racist homophobe may have caused his show to flounder.

it's not too hard a concept to grasp.

Question: did this asshats views really surprise anybody? He's a redneck from the deep south, what the hell did people expect?  I'm from the same part of Louisiana these people are from, and I've heard shiat like what this dipshiat said all my life. Hell, it's pretty tame compared to some of the things I've heard. So, if someone didn't want to support a racist homophobe, why in the fark were they watching the show to begin with?

Dude, they're not even rednecks. They're yuppies doing hillbilly cosplay.

Just think, if McCain had won in 2008, she would've been a weak heartbeat away from the presidency. . .

No scarier than Biden.

reprobate1125: It's also a tough decision to decide who to hate.

Phil's comments were clearly in line with the Bible. So, if you hate him and his beliefs, you have to hate all of Christianity (which you probably already do)...

And if someone is calls themselves a Christian but doesn't agree with what he said, then they're not a Christian.

Phil never said he hated gay people.  He said that God said that their lifestyle was sinful.  Never said God didn't love them.  But the subject is taboo and so people are going to act how they're going to act because people on both sides of the issue get butthurt easily.

God also said getting a tattoo and eating shrimp are sins.

He cleared up the whole eating shrimp thing in the New Testament.

I'm a fan of the show...not necessarily his comments...but I agree with you.  The show has overstayed its welcome, run out of jokes and they're just making up goofy stuff now to fill time.  I predict it'll be off the air at the end of the season.  Phil's comments will have nothing to do with it.  Ratings and the family's lack of desire to care will stop the shows run.  It was fun while it lasted, but it was really only a flash in the pan idea anyway.

This.

Their target audience could care less about homophobic/racist comments made in a magazine that none of them can "read" anyway; but how much of a "reality show" can you make about swamp trash millionaires who make duck calls? Once you've said that, you've pretty much said everything both funny and interesting about the whole clan--it's not like they actually do anything else.

I'd trust Palin 10x over before I let Biden get anywhere near the position that has any influence over The Button.  He has so many damn screwups he'd back door this country into so many conflicts it ain't funny.

This fad was inevitable as their show was insipid, disposable reality TV garbage, but at least the people of New Jersey people had the grace to disassociate themselves from Jersey Shore and didn't invite The Situation or Snooki to the State of the Union Address as a representative of their culture.

reprobate1125: Actually...from what I heard, in the beginning, Willie and the others kept a clean cut to fit into the corporate environment and then finally said "screw it" and just became themselves. I'm sure the show has tried to force them to become more and more corporate.

When I see blatant marketing and branding gimmicks, I often wonder to myself "Are there really people out there too stupid to see through this bullshiat?"

Then I'm reminded ... yes.  Yes there are.  A lot of them.

I love it how the DD haters post 30 year old pictures of the cast as "proof" that they're all a bunch of phonies.

The photos have actually been shown on the show itself clear back in the first season (I believe).  Phil actually teased his kids about their yuppie pasts.

I'm still waiting (been waiting for months) for someone to show me exactly where Phil Robertson was racist or homophobic. And I'll be waiting a long time because you won't find any proof.

Protip: Offering your opinion is not racist or homophobic but liberals cannot fathom that. Anyone who disagrees with their worldview is automatically a homophobic, sexist, fascist, anti-Semitic, racist. Did I miss any buzz words?

Spanky McStupid: I don't know Willie's stand on homosexuality but he put his money where his mouth is when it comes to "racism"; to wit: his children, two of whom are adopted.

racists can't adopt kids?

you know you can still be a raging racist and adopt a child of color. it's like the fancier version of "some of my best friends are _______!" ... immediately followed by racist drivel.

many insanely racist people "help" people of color because they think it is their duty to "fix" the savage races.

don't be stupid. racist family is racist.

those don't count to your average bigoted Levitican like reprobate here. only the gays thing matters. also prohibition on divorce can be totally ignored and hundreds of other laws.

there is like 1-2 lines about gays. but like 4-5 paragraphs about mold. i've yet to see a modern bigoted "Christian" like reprobate raze their house when their shower gets some mildew on it.

reprobate and his ilk just use the bible to defend their racism and bigotry. just like always. it's a nice little shield to hide behind while promoting vile inhuman hatred.

Ahh, always nice to see comments from those who distill bits and pieces of larger statements to fit their mold (no pun intended) of anyone opposing (or even slightly disagreeing with) their viewpoint on humanity.  As was earlier stated, Phil openly mentioned he had nothing against homosexuals, only that they will be judged by God.  But, go ahead and Fast Forward through the whole thing to the parts you want to piece together to fit your rant.

I guess you like quoting one part of the conversation but not the other when you decide exactly who and what you think I am.

If you would have continued reading you would have seen where I said, God cleared the whole shrimp thing up in the New Testament.  I love the way you keep quoting my login like somehow you're telling the world who I am and what I believe.

I'm not defending any position. I never was. I was explaining what the Bible said and nowhere made any commentary on what I believed about it.

I will explain this part to you, since you're interested in what I think...  The bible does call certain things sins.  It also makes a pretty big distinction between the new testament and the old testament where Jesus straightens some things out. People were so into studying the word of the law that they missed the spirit of the law. That's why Jesus said "you've heard it said do not commit murder, but I say do not hate." (paraphrase).

For someone who believes God created the universe (I'm coming at this from a scholarly perspective), then yes, the Bible calls certain things sin including homosexuality and murder and lust and all those other things.

Nowhere does it tell us to hate people who do these things and I don't see calling something a sin the same as hate.  If you're not a Christian why the freak do you care if something is a sin or not a sin?  The entire world does not have to approve of your lifestyle.

I think being super fat is disgusting. I find it repulsive. That's my opinion.  If I state that in this forum as a matter of fact, it's not hate speech. If I go up to a fat person in a buffet and say "you're a disgusting human being," there is a sense of hate in that.

I don't see why it's a must that people "approve" of the gay lifestyle.  Unless "homophobes" are out there trying to beat up gay people or somehow interfere with their lives, then gay people should just go out there and live their gay lives and not get all bent out of shape about whether or not Phil or Truett approve of their lifestyles.

If you have a question about what I believe, x23 ask me. I'll be happy to tell you. The entire world is entitled to my opinion :) On the other hand, if you're going to tell the whole world about how I'm a levitican, I think you should at least take the time to read the rest of the page to see where I responded to that idea.

Dunno about Home Matters, but I first came across Home Time on TLC back in the day.  I'm not mechanically inclined at all (I can fake it), but those PBS home improvement shows are fascinating.

the Mike Holmes shows are even better.  It is the same thing over and over (family gets screwed by shady contractor, Holmes comes in and overbuilds better than code), but the lengths "contractors" will go to squeeze money out of people is eye opening.

Oh yeah, I was hooked on Holmes on Homes for a while .
