Yeah, okay kid.  There's a reason that conservatives call Mitch McConnell "The Baddest Man on the Planet".  It's because his skin is made from hard, chitinous material, and his shell can absorb multiple blows from a hammer or a baseball bat.  Now stop saying things that have no basis in reality.

That Republicans have fallen so far from their roots cannot be illustrated more than this sort of pants on head retardedness...

so basically, this is all about the republicans throwing a fit over obama establishing a national park/monument/etc (which he hasn't done since 2009 btw).  they didn't have a problem letting bill clinton do more of it than just about any other president.  what's so different about obama?

oh, that.

This won't fly at all. Many Western states rely on the money generated from these National Parks. Arizona has freaked out each time the Federal Government has shut down because it also shut down the Grand Canyon.

I'm not sure how people can support this. And the original power grab was by Teddy. Every other President is simply doing what he did.

All you need to do is introduce DDT back into the mix.  It will make his shell frail and easily baseball battable.

People who want to hurt the country and degrade our quality of life to stick to N0bamma are true patriots!  If he were a better president or not so "ethnic" then Republicans wouldn't have to be such horrible people.

Let's place the blame where it belongs, people.

They are so hell-bent on destroying this country, they are digging around looking for things passed in 1906  to repeal? Seriously?  They campaigned on jobs and the economy and are doing nothing about it - and this would actually harm the economy in many places. What the ever loving hell is wrong with these people?

I feel like whoever suggested this, the rest of the room should have laughed at him, and said "great joke."

H.R. 1459 is not expected to be considered by or passed in the Senate. The President would also be likely to veto such a bill.

While this response is childish, at best, I wonder why the President felt he needed to invoke that power. The bill to include this area in the national monument had already passed the house and was waiting on the Senate. Plus, as far as I can see, it doesn't have any poison pills.

2014-03-21 09:39:28 AM
to be fair what they are trying to do is to take the power to create parks with a stroke of the pen away from the president and give it to congress.  where they can presumably just sign over the land to exxon.

"Smokey the Bear" and "Only you can prevent forest fires" was a mistake and never should have happened. Fire is a natural part of the West's ecology -- and necessary. Fires clear out underbrush to allow new growth, and some seeds only open when heated.

100 years of aggressive fire-fighting have left the West too full of fuel, so now when there are fires, instead of fairly harmless ground fires that clear out the ground leaving healthy trees alone, we get crown fires that wipe out everything.

2014-03-21 09:45:27 AM
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT)

Sorry guys... I didn't vote for him, but he IS from my state. Here's the breakdown:

Utah has been trying to fight the feds for years, they want to open up oil/natural gas drilling next to all the National Parks, and they're trying a bunch of bullshiat to do it. They want to allow it outside of Bryce and Zion in particular, but they're also really pissed about Grand Staircase.

One of their farked up plans is to pass a law saying that the state can claim eminent domain on federal lands, then place a claim on the national parks, seize that land, pay the govt. "fair market value", and then open the shiat up to whatever people want to do; drilling, mining, malls, etc... Of course the way they are selling the residents on this is by claiming that it's "for the children". We have a lot of money that is "for the children", yet we have some of the lowest per-child spending in the country. The reason this happens is that there is ANOTHER law which allows someone to poach these funds as long as they "eventually" repay them, which of course never happens. Nobody who votes for these assholes has really though this cunning plan through, since there is sure to be years and years of legal battles to fight, and then the purchase of the park land if they DO eventually win, followed by the years of waiting for these leases to get handed out, money to come in, and all of the previous millions(or Billions) to get paid off before this plan makes any kind of profit. I'm thinking that best case scenario, my daughter's children might be the ones that these funds eventually get stolen from.

Most people here aren't insane, but the people who get elected here sure as shiat are...

2014-03-21 09:45:27 AM
The leader of the GOP was already honest enough to admit that they oppose him because he's black. This is the basis for all of their decision making.

The bill actually doesn't do any of the things in the headlines, it only makes it so there has to be multiple branches of government on board plus local approval for the creation of new lands.

Admittedly, that would likely stop most (if not all) parks from being done, but lets attack the facts of the bill rather than the hyperbole.

obama hasn't done a fraction of what clinton did and the only reason they're trying to stop him is because he's obama and they hate him (at least during the clinton years they were trying to get some coal).  from what i can find the people of michigan want this place protected for tourism reasons but congress doesn't care because they can't have the president acting on the will of the people.

It is pretty ironic that liberals complained about DDT, and now, when Mitch McConnell becomes the most respected Republican in the Republican Party, DDT is banned.  There is now nothing that liberals can do.  Not that liberals do anything, anyway.

Does anyone else think that maybe the whole concept of democracy has failed, when people voluntarily, even gleefully, vote for their country's and their own destruction and the taking down of all reason and sanity? Maybe the masses really are asses and can't be trusted to run something as important as a country?

I'm not usually this cynical, but man, people are almost too stupid to run their own affairs.

What's amazing is, outside of certain cities in Utah, the natural parks are about ALL they have that brings in any appreciable money to the state.  So this is a case of cutting off the entire head to spite the body?  Mainly due to the fact that if they were able to open up the parks to strip mining, oil drilling and the like, the people of the state would see bupkis as far as money benefiting the state.
