Hats off to him for seeing farkloads of money not as a way to join in Ellison and Allen's game of "who has the biggest yacht," but as a way to further research in areas where he appears to have had a sincere lifelong curiosity.

Sounds like a genuinely nice guy and good businessman.

RIP guy.

I have DOS for Dummies, the grand daddy of them all.

"Uncle Pat" as he was affectionately known throughout IDG was truly a great man. I worked at PC World for 14 years and met him on many occasions. It was a genuine treat for him to hand deliver Christmas bonus checks to each and every United States employee. He would walk around with the CEOs and department heads. After some brief pleasantries, he would always ask, with a twinkle in his eye "So how has [boss name] treated you this past year?" Sometimes very interesting answers would come out of people's mouths, but that really kept everyone on their toes. I was privileged to have the same 10th anniversary dinner with Pat and a dozen or so IDG co-workers at the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. Pretty cool breaking bread with the most down-to-earth billionaire in the world.

Don't miss it one bit. Nintendo Power is another story.

RedPhoenix122: I miss GamePro.

God why? Even when I was eleven I could easily tell it was the worst game magazine out there.

And I was buying Nintendo Power.

So the guy made a bundle by publishing books about technology written in a way that made idiots feel like they were smart and putting out a subpar gaming mag along with some overpriced computer periodicals which were a bunch of ads.

What a waste of the hero tag.

MacUser was a way cooler magazine than MacWorld.

I would pick up MacWorld, go, "Eh, what a crappily written magazine, who reads this tripe?"

Is he responsible for the glowing review for Batman Returns for the SNES?  Because, fark whoever that was.  That game was more repetitive than Tennis.  Last issue of GamePro I ever read.
