AlienDandelion: Real Women Drink Akvavit: spman: So some of you may remember last week I posted about how my mothers cat had a fatty lump, which the Vet referred to as a tumor, and wanted to perform sugery because according the X-Ray, "it hadn't spread". So the cat has the surgery, everything goes well, seems to be recovering fine.

Today the Vet calls my mother and sells her the biopsy shows Fibrosarcoma, and immediately goes on about consulting an oncologist and radiation, and chemo, which is both A. Unaffordable and B. Quite frankly absurd to put a near 13 year old cat through. Unfortunately the vet was light on further details as far as prognosis, etc. etc., and that's how it was left.

This is very upsetting to me obviously, part of me almost wishes that it was over now, so I could grieve and move on, rather than dragging it on for however long it might be, knowing what the inevitable conclusion will be. Anyone have similar experiences, what is the typical prognosis is since we're just going to let it be? Two months? Six months? A Year? I'm just really bummed out now about the whole situation, especially since the Vet kind of set our expectations pretty high, only to have them drop to nothing once reality set in.

Oh, man, I am so sorry. I've heard of fibrosarcoma but never in all my years (even when I was in veterinary) have I seen one. It's not just vaccinations they are linked to, btw. It's ANY injection and the reason for this is unknown. I've never even heard of it in a dog, but I know they can get it. At least that's what the Merck's Manual told me when I was in my schoolin'. They're not very common - at least not in my area. Pooey. I was so hoping it was the common liposarcoma - those types of lumps usually are - and she'd be just peachy fine.

Prognosis is poor, as I'm sure you know. Just keep her happy and comfy. How much time she's got probably depends a lot on if they got it all and if it's already metastized or not. Because they are so rare in my area (or simply no ...

That is so disgusting it's funny. I'd totally go to the Denny's near the mall every Sunday with that one. Tell the churchers that take it over every week that it was a type of stigmata or something. Is it still blasphemy if you're not in that religion? I've always wondered that...

Oddly enough I've had a couple doctors and some people say I should use vitamin E oil and other stuff
to minimize the battle wound on my hand.

For the life of me I can't figure out  WHY I would want to hide it?
No offense to anyone who suggested it to me -but I want it to be
loud and proud.
I'm not ashamed of it - I SURVIVED.
And I want it as noticeable as possible as a warning to all the other
a**holes out there who look at me and think I'm an easy target.

Gogh would still sniff her tail. He's a wanna-be mimbo perv that way. :-)

I've been doing very well saving what little moneys I get toward the Disneyland trip! I am right on track with it, which is awesome! Basically, anything I want like nail polish or a new book or something that I see online, I make myself make TWICE the amount it would cost so I can buy it and put half of it in my Disney account. This has not only reined in my little early morning shopping sprees for more "health and beauty" stuff than anyone could use in a lifetime because I like it and it was on sale a modestly priced addition or two to my eyeliner and nail polish collections, it has also built up my savings account while still meeting my monthly expenses. I'm so proud of me! Thanks for posting incentive pics for me. Those make me sooooo happy!

It used to make random people walking by my cubicle of doom laugh.
People would come by weekly just to see if I had anything new put up as my walls were covered.

I had something like that happen when I left the nasty apartment that took Ben Hurr's life and moved into one that was in "better condition". This one wasn't carpeted, it had wood flooring.
Very, very  slippery wood flooring.
Gremlin almost crapped himself the very first time he went sliding across the floor instead of being able to stop.
The absolute look of WTF he gave me was priceless.

Yeah, it was more than a little disorienting for me moving from SoCal to NorCal. I can't imagine myself somewhere like Oklahoma. An old friend of mine moved to Michigan and the culture shock was just horrid for her. She lasted less than a year.

I am so sorry sweetie, that totally sucks. Fibrosarcoma is one of the cancers that can occur at a vaccination site directly because of the vaccination. Did the vet give your mother's cat his vaccinations where the tumor was found? I am guessing that it was the scruff of the neck. For 15-20 years the protocol has been for vets to give cats their vaccinations on their legs so that if there is a resulting sarcoma the leg can be removed for a better chance at a cure. Unfortunately many vets still give them at the scruff of the neck. Ask the vet about the last vaccinations given in that area. They should have a manufacturer and batch information. Some of the manufacturers do give a settlement (usually less than $1,500) to go towards the vet care. You can also research online the progno ...

You are welcome sweetie. There is also a Yahoo group called VAS (Vaccine Associated Sarcoma) and they have a huge amount of information to share and strong shoulders for support. They are a wonderful group of people. I joined years ago when my Niki was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma and they really helped me a lot.

But the day I came home to find that high cupboard open and their treats gone and their treat ball broken into pieces on the floor...
was the day I installed baby locks on all the cupboards.

Man! they were so pleased with themselves - then gave me hell for the locks hahaha!

hahahahah!
and let me guess - you were never allowed to forget were you?
hahhahaha!!!
The boys did that to me. They would literally "herd" me into the kitchen and show me exactly which cupboard they were in.
Even though at times they drove me nuts - I have to say - never did I learn so much as I did while I had those two.
Every day I laughed that I had them. For 8 months straight. I can't remember a time in my life that was just like that.
I haven't laughed every single day for 8 months straight since.
I try to find something to laugh about or at every day...but it doesn't always work.
Not the type of laughing those two brought out in me.
Strange, isn't it?
fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net
PERFECT example.
The day Gremlin came home a week after Ben Hurr did.
That was Ben Hurr's straw. Gremlin wanted to play with it but Benner's was having none of it.
To show me the very first time how different their personalities were - Ben Hurr was under his chair hissing and growling at Gremlin.
Gremlin decided to "pretend" to fall asleep near that straw.
Over the course of an hour - Ben Hurr would slowly sneak up to try to get his straw, while I caught Gremlin "peeking" with one eye to see if
his new friend was coming closer.
Brats.
