(ESPN)   Reds fastballer Aroldis Chapman can throw 100+ MPH like he's part-machine, so it's no surprise that he can also be fixed with plates of metal   (espn.go.com) divider line 31
More: Scary, Aroldis Chapman, reds, Pena, Major League Baseball, a hit, Buster Olney, catch up to a fastball, left-handed

100 MPH going in; 100 MPH coming back atcha. Learn to live with disappointment.

I think that's the hardest part, is just living after something like that.

Yeah, them batters get paid to play, too.

Pitcher's don't need helmets; they need full-on goalie masks.

We have the technology, we can rebuild him.....

Tr0mBoNe: Helmets for pitchers?

They can wear that soft helmet thing starting this year.

I think of it like visors in hockey: I don't necessarily like it, but I can live with it.

And Chapman probably will wear it every appearance now.

Neither a batting helmet nor that soft cap would have done Chapman any good against what happened here

Just like how when that minor league coach died, and they made base coaches wear helmets...that didn't protect the area where the guy got hit

Would not have helped in this case unless it had a face cage, which pretty much no one at any level higher than Little League uses.

SlothB77: And Chapman probably will wear it every appearance now.

He will wear whatever the minimum deemed mandatory by MLB and not a thing more. Guaranteed.

Throw the ball, end in defensive position, catch the ball

But when you give him a heart, he no longer has the desire to strike those poor fellas out.  He wants to go into social work where he can help people.

I submitted this with a funnier (if more obscure) headline :/

He survived defecting to this country only to have balls hit him in the face.

A Republican's wet-dream.

Remember when Ian Desmond lined to Juan Nicasio's head knocking him out so he fell and broke his neck? Damn. Scary.

What's his salary? Does he make $6 million this season?

No farking helmets for pitchers, no. How sissified can you get.
No more body armor for hitters' arms and legs.
They need to have a little fear up there.
Helmets for hitters are ok.
Catchers get a pass for all gear.

This is why I stopped pitching to my brother way back when. Took a line drive to the face and that was the end of that shiat..

Watched this video and the memories of the ball aiming for my face were remarkable. Good thing my young self couldn't throw anywhere close to 100mph..

You wanna tell J.A. Happ that?

Team doctor Timothy Kremchek said Chapman, who was no other injuries, could begin working out and throwing in 10 to 14 days and could pitch in game conditions in four to six weeks.

Nice editing ESPN

That might even be too dumb for the politics tab. Haha, it's funny because nothing's too dumb for the politics tab. But seriously fatalvenom, fark off with that shiat.
