It's rare to see a Hard Gay reference, even here on Fark, so +1 for that.

Now that he is dead I will stop thinking critical thoughts about his actions.  They are in the past and while typically in bad observance of what trace of collective customs that we have, they can no longer be changed by him.
So instead I will pay attention to the potential positive results, however unintended:
- He pointed out the absurdity of hating something you do not understand
- He placed homosexuality in the spotlight and contributed to the liberalization of the US collective attitude about homosexuality.
- He pointed out how a bully can still get attention after high school
- He caused people to reflect on how many times they were thoughtlessly cruel to others for arbitrary reasons.
/Of course with over 12 hundred posts, I didn't bother to read any.

Until I heard about his children leaving the church and talking about how bad it really was, I was convinced he was actually a sort of liberal "false flag" operation, for the bolded reasons.

Baz744: COMALite J: Oh, it gets better. Keep in mind that WBC is very, very Calvinist in its doctrine. That means that they believe in predestination, that ∞ eons before He ever said, "Let there be light," God had already chosen whom He would save and whom He would damn, and that there's absolutely nothing that anyone can do about it.

Sounds like common sense to me.

If God is omniscient, he knew every damned sinner's ultimate destiny before he even created them. If he knew their destiny, and had the power to change it, he effectively chose their destiny by declining to change it. This is inescapable truth given the most popular theological predicates in modern Christianity; i.e., God is omnipotent, God is omniscient, and the unsaved go to Hell.

That means God made most people alive, and who ever have, and who ever will walk the Earth, knowing full well they'd burn forever for the personal amusement of the Lord Jesus Christ and fundamentalist Christians.

What a monumental asshole. Anyone with a conscience would rebel against this diabolical f*ck.

Essentially the problem of evil.  But you are possibly confusing predestination with predetermination.

So, you know how when you've got some terrible stomach flu or food poisoning, and you're completely miserable and life is awful, and you get to the point where you're almost ready to give up on living, but instead you have the sudden urge to run to the bathroom, and drop trousers just in time and a flood of totally vile substances come shooting out your ass like a Saturn V engine lifting a mighty Apollo spacecraft as it starts a journey to the moon, and just as it's coming to an end, you just know that your body has finally gotten rid of the festering malaise that's laid you low, and at that point, even though you're dehydrated and cramped, you nevertheless know you're going to pull through and the sun will shine and birds will sing again?

That's how I feel; not happy, not bitter, but relieved that we got rid of this one nasty bug.

Kittypie070: his interpretation of scripture isn't far off.

Spreading hate and calling it love?

Both of your interpretations are off. The Bible is a lot stranger than what most realize, but only when you realize the ridiculous is what happened, does the old testament make sense. Fallen angels came down and tried to completely corrupt creation. They built all those ancient megaliths. Ancient Aliens isn't far off of what happened, but they were not little green men from another planet, but corrupt spiritual beings from another dimension. The first prophecy in the Bible is what God gives about the woman and her seed, and the serpent and his seed. The corruption of the human race and the world is what was going on genetically. Noah was "perfect in his generations". There is a reason that was stated, but has been long lost among traditional churches.

The flood and the later cleaning of Canaan were all part of cleaning the world of demonic and corrupted DNA. Don't spare any of them. They are there to simply corrupt creation.

It seems weird, but once you realize what the Old Testament was really getting at it starts to make much more sense. Weird, but makes more sense.

Nemo's Brother: lordjupiter: Banned on the Run: Regarding Takei's post taking the high road -- the great tragedy in this is that the people who really need to see it, the WBC, will never appreciate the delicious irony of George Takei in that moment being a million times more Christian than Fred Phelps ever was.

Takei took the political road.  He worked enough veiled insult into his statement to let you know what he was doing, but enough feel-good platitude to keep him from getting shiat for it.  It was the right thing for a public figure like himself to do.

The rest of us, not so much.  fark Phelps.

I don't think so. Takei has a curious energy for a man his age. He clearly loves living and life. I think love and humor make his world go around. I truly believe he is sincere in his post.

If you believe that Takei is not partying with his friends right now you are delusional, he was just being PC.

He spent his entire adult life, hurting people, his family, strangers and such...

It wasnt even religiously motivated most likely.

His entire "family" that is still in the church are lawyers or disbared lawyers.
They make a living out of protests and people who try to stop them... You can look it up.
Try to stop a protest, and they sue. Get angry enough to hit them... you will pay through the nose.

Not true!

Fred was once a civil rights lawyer. It wasn't until the mid-1970s that something happened to change the man.

He was complaining about immoral behavior in college. He also beat and abused his kids as they were growing up. So, even though he was doing right to fight against Jim Crow laws he was still a miserable human being his whole life.
Probably because he had to keep the ghey in the closet.

Since he's more outraged over people's responses than to the guy who did nothing but spew hatred, he would be one of the 'You're the REAL racist for pointing out racism' political posters.

I'm not outraged at anything. And, as usual, the Fark commenters see what they want to see in my posts, instead of what I actually say.

This guy showed up at the funerals of SOLDIERS and celebrated their deaths as God hating them.
Average Fark Commenter has shown up in-thread celebrating his death as God hating him.
