I kind of feel sorry for the next Pontiff because this guy is going to be a tough act to follow. I thought JPII was going to be the high water mark, but I was wrong.

Seriously.  I'm not Catholic nor have I ever been, but I can't help but really like this guy.  The humility, the acceptance and love for others.  It's almost as if he thinks Jesus actually meant what he said.

Everybody loved JPII at the beginning, too.  Once it starts to settle in that he can't change most of the laws of the church the backlash will begin.

It IS nice that he's asking people to think about what aspects of the church to focus on.  For a while there was a little too much navel-gazing about the little rules. He's focusing on the forest, not the trees.

I'm not expecting Church canon to change, but he has made some sweeping reforms already to the much-maligned Vatican banking system and brought in outside people to get that in order and provide oversight. He's not going to change much overnight, but he does seem to be doing a good job in restoring the confidence of the laity in terms of how we Catholics view the Papacy and the administration of the Church. If he can overhaul some institutional changes and at least instill confidence going forward that scandals such as we have seen will be a thing of the past, or at least, the gross mismanagement of scandals will be a thing of the past (the clergy are all still human, and humans have flaws, and in an organization that big, there will always be people who do bad things just like any other entity that large), that would be a pretty significant legacy. He's called upon Catholics to get back to the basics of their relationship with God and with trying to improve the plight of those who are poor and suffering and he seems to be putting the Vatican on a similar path of soul searching as an institution. But as far as sweeping changes in matters purely of the faith? I wouldn't hold my breath. He just needs to get the ship back on course for now.

I see his position as a bit like Obama's. right now he cannot make any sweeping changes to dogma or canon, and probably never will (though if anybody might call a Third Vatican Council to do what John XXIII did with the  2nd, it would be Francis) BUT much like Obama, he can decide how much time an effort to spend on enforcing various aspects of church law and what prominence they should be given in pastorl teachings, and in that regard he's at least making all the right noises.  A perfect example is what appears to be an evolving stance on gay marriage.  It's clear the church will never offer that sacrement to same-sex couples at least in our lifetimes, but he does seem to be saying that the church should advocate for STATES to recognize civil unions with some legal effect for gay couples as a matter of basic human rights

I came to say this, but with less anger, but now I realise I was a fool for not being angry. I should have been more angry, because you're right, they're freakin morons. How hard is it to know what the simple concept of a selfie is taking a photo of oneself?

If you take a picture of yourself by holding your camera at arm's reach, it's a selfie. Add two people to the equation - does it stop being a selfie? I dunno.

Not a photobomb though. Subtard should DIAF.
