I feel kinda dumb for asking this, but: Courtney Love wasn't really the first to spot this, was she? She was retwittering somebody else's thing, right?

Computer, enhance 224 to 176. Enhance, stop. Move in, stop. Pull out, track right, stop. Center in, pull back. Stop. Track 45 right. Stop. Center and stop. Enhance 34 to 36. Pan right and pull back. Stop. Enhance 34 to 46. Pull back. Wait a minute, go right, stop. Enhance 57 to 19. Track 45 left. Stop. Enhance 15 to 23. Alright, freeze there and upload to Fark.

Without even RTFA, I know what it contains.  The same thing the news did this morning:

"BREAKING NEWS on the Malaysian plane!!!"
"Satellite pictures taken 3 days ago saw something that might be a piece of the wreckage.  A bunch of Austrailian ships are out there right now, and haven't confirmned anything.  In fact, it might just be a boat."

In other words, "we still got nuthin."

That's some great breaking news.  Thanks for that.
Also.  3 days ago?!  Really?!

Lenny_da_Hog:

You'd have to be pretty goddamned callous to not care about something that happened on the other side of the planet to people you don't know, especially when it doesn't affect you in any way whatsoever.

I like explosions. Planes make big explosions when they crash, so I care.

We should have explosives on all cars, so they blow up when they crash like they do in the movies. That would make people interested in car crashes, too.

Picard: Commander data, could that sensor echo be MH370?

Data: Possibly Captain, but sensor readings are inconclusive. However the amount of debris is consistent with an aircraft with that configuration. Perhaps if I user an enhanced narrow EM band I can gather more information.

Picard: Make it so, Mr. Data. I want a positive identification after the next commercial break.

Data: I will do my best, sir. But Captain, give the amount of time that has elapsed and the pattern of debris, if the wreckage is MH370, it is unlikely that there are any survivors.

Picard: Understood. Dr, Crusher, report to my quarters! You have the bridge, Number One

Riker: (grins and winks at the Captain)

I heard they recovered a camera that belonged to one of the passengers and found this as the last photo in it:

That's the one from last Friday 7 miles WSW from Pulau Perak  just where the Thai radar says it should be, a ship reported seeing floating luggage, and various other hints.

Malaysia took a cursory glance at the area and said NOPE.

WTF? -_-

SirEattonHogg: I really hope they don't find the plane for sometime so Farkers can post a pic from Langoliers or from this obscure movie:

The 'Millennium' ones bother me because (at least in the original story) a major plot point was that the crashes had to look absolutely normal in our timeline. The passengers who were taken to the future were replaced with bodies made up to look like them, right down to the dental records. Of the two, Langoliers is the correct reference for MH370 (although The Twilight Zone would also be acceptable).

I'm sticking with the Rogue Penguin theory.

I didn't like that episode because it had no actual interesting resolution, much like the value of Pi.

If this is the plane, all that stuff about the way stations and satellite pings north was wrong?

Correct, she tweeted a picture that had been posted on Reddit, with some of her own MS Paint notations.

/a boat's just a boat, but the mystery box could be anything,
//it could even be a boat!!

Because there isn't one.

I really like Stephen King's books and he seems like a nice guy and I'd love to meet him, but honestly I think he's over-rated and I don't think he'd be offended by that.

Like everyone in America knows who Stephen King is. But how many know who Clive Barker or even Michael Chriton is? Isaac Asimov? Can the average American even name ten fiction authors?

Maybe part of it is that he just wrote so many thousands of pages that there is at least one memorably horrifying moment somewhere for everybody? I read It and The Stand when I was like 10 and my mom is a big fan too and she knew there was a gangbang in It and she let me read it anyway!

I don't think Stephen King is scary, but he does have a very good sense of irony and tragedy. I haven't read much by him, but he has material like It, and Pet Cemetary which to me are kind of cheap, but then he has The Body (Stand By Me), Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and Misery (Okay, okay, okay. I didn't read them but I did see the movie)....I appreciate what I've read, not because I find the situations scary, but I think he has a good handle on how irrational we can be and our basal emotions are not happiness and love, but fear and violence.
