"Everybody we've called has said it's up to us. We have to pay to get them removed. We have to deal with it," said resident Melissa Walker. "Our property, our mess."

Paying for tumbleweed removal? You're doing it wrong.

There's a market for ONE person to fill the global demand for tumble weeds, and I'm not sure it's a hot idea to let a pest plant like that into countries it isn't already endemic.

The fact that they're rolling around all over the place depositing their seeds everywhere is going to be an issue when the season comes for them to start growing, too.
Along with that field across the street that they corralled them into.

Monsanto might have a solution for that.

That was my first pyromaniacal thought.  The second one being "oops, those are wooden houses".

Imagine flaming tumbleweeds rolling around in your neigbourhood.

How many potatoes does it take to kill an Irishman?

NONE!

I live in Colorado Springs, so I'm getting a kick out of this.

Figures that El Paso county told them that they're on their own. This is coming from the county that denied us non-marijuana sales and now is whining about getting a cut of the tax profit because the number DUIs went up.

That's not really all that many tumbleweeds; I think it was last year a line of houses were nearly buried underneath the things. All you could see was the roof; they had piled up in front of the houses until even the second floor was buried.

/that was a lot of tumbleweeds
//you'd need a really big mulching mower to deal with those things

High winds are to blame for a shockingly large amount of tumbleweeds that have blown into a neighborhood south of Colorado Springs.

If all it takes to "shock" you is tumbleweed, you need to get out more.

Hit 3-4 of the bastards last week coming home from New Mexico. They kinda explode when you hit 'em at 80 mph.

We get them here in the Southwest all the time. Spring is really rough. They blow across the Interstate, no time to dodge them. I just use a propane torch on them, works really well. Pay it no heed. It comes with the house. These homeowners sound like they're lived in apartments, or in an urban setting. Calling about removing them? No one's gonna do it for free, sweetie. And your HOA at the least will send a letter on it. Rules are different living in rural areas, get used to it. Sounds like the kind of people who'll put tumbleweeds in the trash can.

Such as sue people who found the plants growing wild on their land?  How will that help?
