I'm not saying it's not cool an all, but let's be honest here, it's nor actually a working keyboard, it's a case-mod with a keyboard inside.

Am I the only one fed up with those weekly "awesome whatever build with lego" or "awesome lego characters vaguely resembling characters you might have seen on tv" threads?
There are people doing the same shiat every day with toothpicks and stuffed ants and no one cares as much.

I do love legos but this is tiresome.

Wow, Fark, what other "geek chic" articles can we post?

Is anyone else getting tired of the bastardization of geek culture so everyone can feel smarter about themselves? I see it on dating sites all the time, with regular girls talking about how "geeky" they are because they saw some episodes of Dr. Who, and David Tennant is such a handsome guy, and OMG, have you read...

At least it's Wired and not something like geekgurl420.com or whatever
I made that URL up, but it probably exists

I appreciate the attention to detail he put into it, but building a LEGO shell around otherwise functional electronic components is generally not that impressive as a technical feat.

I built this like six years ago to play Frets on Fire.

www.smidgeindustriesltd.com
Complete with shoulder strap. The Tremolo bar is the up/down arrows so it can be used to navigate the in-game menus. Escape button is tucked down in the lower right corner of the body. Otherwise it's just a LEGO chassis to hold the circuit board from an old PS/2 keyboard and some buttons.

This contraption is a few years older still:

Guts of a dead joystick held together with LEGO. Too much slop in the mechanisms to really be useful for gaming, though it did work.  The iteration after this one (which I couldn't find complete pics of) had self-centering and relocated the X axis potentiometer into the Y axis gimbal to eliminate the fork linkage.

So to get on Fark, all you have to do is ruin a keyboard by gluing Legos to it?

Fark has really gone down hill since Drew changed the layout.  Even Fb_ is ashamed.

If you're not the only one, you're probably in the minority here.

He didn't glue Legos to a keyboard. He used the membrane switches from a keyboard and aligned all those lego parts to hit the correct switch.

Meh, I'm ok with that. There are worse things to be annoyed with than legos, I'm not bursting doors in kintergartens in order to burn lego boxes.
Yet, now that F. Phelbs has kicked the bucket, there might be a niche, there.

God hates bricks

Maybe I'm unto something...
