KidneyStone: Almost 30 years ago I worked at the school crapeteria and they had some county-funded mentally challenged guy working with us. One day he just blurted out "I have ears but I don't have quarters."

Well, that may have been true.  It's better than when I worked cleaning dishes in a cafeteria.  The guy who worked next to me didn't seem very mentally challenged, but he did go nuts one day and started throwing dishes around.

Oddly enough, he didn't get fired.

wildcardjack: I don't understand where he was stealing the coins.

Sample of how coins are collected (How it's made)

There shouldn't be a point where humans are touching the coins. Should be into the box, box to the deposit. I think Brinks handles that in most areas.

There was a similar story posted on Fark maybe a year ago, I think the Rochester/Buffalo NY area, it was actually the meter repair guy. He would rig the things to break in a certain way and then when executing the repair, he could steal the coins. Something to that effect.
