Pretty sad that this could happen to anyone...let alone a homeless Marine who had mental issues. Guy was arrested just curling up in a stairwell trying to keep warm and sleep through the cold night. And really? The mom wasn't notified for a month? A reporter had to tell her? TFA said they are supposed to check the cells every 15 min, but 4 HOURS went by before someone thought to check on the guy. By then...it was over 100 degrees, and I'm sure he died from heat stroke. I see shut up and go away money going to his mom soon.

F**k that. I want prison time for the responsible parties.

Having liability insurance for the guard that did not follow the rules would make sure he or she no longer can work as a guard. The criminal charges would be separate.

Yep. And nothing will change because of that. Politicians are too afraid of being seen as "weak" on crime to do anything about our absolutely embarrassing prison system.

He was arrested for trespassing for sleeping in some stairwell. This could have happened to a person in good standing who was dehydrated after a night of drinking. In this case it was the meds that weakened him.

farking pigs... Homeless, mentally ill man (never mind the vet part) trespassing by trying to stay warm in a stairwell and the arresting officer couldn't just take him to a damn shelter instead of jail? Even ignoring the fact that the jail later farking killed him, what kind of inhuman asshole has this little empathy for a person life has so obviously shiat all over?

You aren't going to change anything as long as we continue our current electoral system.  It's the number one thing keeping the political system from accomplishing... well anything and it's been over 200 years since it's had a review but no one seems to even consider putting it on the table.  It would break up our current corpro-oligarchy

The department also said that "several other" cells surrounding Murdough's were found to be warmer than 80 degrees, and officials said they had taken steps to fix overheating issues, including turning down thermostats.

And you're not going to change that, either, because you need consensus for a constitutional amendment.  In today's partisan climate, it would be impossible get 2/3rds of the Senate and House to agree what time it is, much less 3/4ths of the state legislatures.
Yes, it's been screwed up for 200 years, but the only politicians who want to change it are the ones out of office, once they get in, they want to protect the system that elected them.  That's why nobody's ever been able to change it, even back when Americans used to be able to get along with each other now and then.

If a guard in any state is found to not have done thier job and or duties and it resulted in someone's death they would be fired due to liability reasons and what not. Also good luck finding any similar line of work now that most agencies and departments be they police forces or corectional departments require background checks before getting hired due to the effect on the outside it can have if you have a dirty officer thats working for some not so nice individuals on the inside.

I transfered to AZ for work about 5 years ago and not too sure where you get the idea that this would be celebrated, can't say I've met anyone here that would celebrate a veterans death due to some lazy sob not doing their job.

Was it Sheriff Joe personally or some lazy or sadistic sob who worked for him that led to these people who have "cooked" to death? Although I can only recall reading about one case of this in the time I have been here. Like I said I haven't met anyone here that would celebrate such a thing.

I'm sure such people exist here just for the simple fact that demented folks can be found in any state. I recall when I lived in Washington State that there was a lot of skin heads to be seen there depending where you were at and that those individuals would celebrate the death of somone not of pure aryan pedigree, such as brown people and or darkies as often refered to here on fark. But I would never say the whole state was a bunch of racist white supremacists due to a small population that holds those type of beliefs.

This last weekend in Albuquerque, we had a homeless, mentally ill vet who was camping in the foothiils. He supposedly had two knives, video shows him threatening cops. If you've got a bunch of cps with weapons drawn, odds are they've made up their minds. Well, short story, they capped him, and he died the next day.Begs the question, what point do they try to aprehend him, or just say'FUUGIT' and unload on him.
