WelldeadLink: SNAP benefits costs $76.4 billion in Fiscal Year 2013

And they were cut by about $5 billion for FY 2014.

Make cuts to the defense budget? Subby MUST be high.

You liberals are trying to solve last week's problem. Last week ended. It's over. Done. You had your chance, it was Tuesday, and then Wednesday, and finally Sunday came and went, and you didn't solve it. Now, it's next week, and the world has a new problem, and you'd better get focused and get your minds in the present, because Putin's playing for keeps. What do you think he's going to do if we cut military spending even more? Do you think he's going to stop with The Ukraine? I'll tell you where he's going to stop: Berlin. And not even there.
But we know how to prevent that. Back in the 80s, at the height of hostilities, all of the scientists in America told Reagan "Star Wars won't work. We can't afford $600 billion on something that won't ever work. Sure we want the money, but can we spend it on something useful?" Reagan laughed at them, and the Soviets, terrified that we could just throw away so much money, collapsed.
Here we have another opportunity to waste billions of dollars. It's perfect, and yet you guys want to do the perfectly opposite thing. You need to get your heads in the game.

What if we use the military budget to blow up poors, gays, and brown people in America? Isn't that the best of both worlds?

And what's that to do with the price of ben-wa balls in Hong Kong?

Don't laugh.  I'm certain someone out there - several someones, actually - are thinking about this very seriously.

What blows me away is that people don't realize that if we exterminated all of the poors, then EVERYONE would be rich. Why don't y'all want us to all be rich?

Okay, am I the only amused by the fact the real time intel system that spec ops and the Marines use now is apparently called Palantir?

Are they sure all the stones are accounted for?

Only $7.5 million for FY 2012? Not only are our elected representatives whores, they're apparently very, very cheap ones.

It's so strange that conservatives have somehow equated the entire military budget with the prevention of terrorist attacks in America.  "We can't cut the military budget because we would weaken our defense against terrorism!"  As if every military program is in place only to stop terrorism.

2014-03-19 03:42:23 PM
Maybe I'd rather give my money to billionaires than to filthy poor people. Did you ever stop to think about that, hippie-mitter?

Someone should explain to them that you fight terrorism with the military budget you have, and not the military budget you wish you had or would like to have.

It's not about actual waste/cost. It's about punishing poor people and white folks not wanting to have to pay for black folks.

Did they use the deficit as an excuse for those cuts or was it just another case of stickin' it to the poors?

What?  Why?  I don't see why a relevant statement of fact(unless it's not true, which isn't what you said) should be a starting point.

I mean, can't I just say, a year's worth of food stamps are worth 7 times much to us as a failed intel program?

exick: WelldeadLink: SNAP benefits costs $76.4 billion in Fiscal Year 2013

Not to be obtuse, but cutting the program in TFA would only save $0.367 billion per year.  Certainly nothing to sneeze at, but it wouldn't be nearly enough to make up for the SNAP cut by itself.

Of course, there's lots more waste that could be cut from defense, so there's that.

2014-03-19 03:59:35 PM
You see, Republicans know that the way to make their base feel better off is to make the poorest even poorer. It's all relative, so it doesn't matter if you didn't get a raise this year, look at those bums with full time jobs who can't even afford to feed their families (which they couldn't abort because you closed the clinics last year).

What do you expect? The article mentions:  Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and General Dynamicseach of those companies individually donates about the same.

It was a temporary increase in SNAP benefits as part of a stimulus program.

Sure, but the point of the article isn't "We should cut defense and use it to restore SNAP funding", it's "If we're thinking about things to cut why don't we start with something no one wants or needs".

So much THIS!

This selfish little prick has caused millions of innocent families across the country to get their SNAP benefits slashed if not cut off entirely. The next time you read about some school kids going hungry, remember it was because this dumbsh*t bragged about buying lobster on a "news" network, thinking it would launch him into rock superstardom.
