Mario (the restaurant's owner) is being an idiot. To paraphrase a comment from the first CityPages article, why would you let anyone near your German restaurant with a swastika?

Why is it such a shock that the dinner took place on MLK Day?  Hitler never denounced MLK and MLK never denounced Hitler.

Okey dokey.

*scratches Minneapolis off the list*

Hitler had a, shall we say, less than favorable view on African people and anyone who descended from them.

While you are right that neither leader said anything specifically about each other, their ideologies were miles apart.

MLK Day?  Was Hanukkah already booked up?

Ask the douchebags who have a Nazi dinner party on MLK day.  I'm sure they'll tell you all about it.

Look I'm a Jew and while I think this was a dick move by a bunch of dicks we can't go around. Taking people's rights for free assembly if it was just to "re-enact." It hardens people's hearts, drives them under ground, makes them into hate filled lone wolves.

Best thing to do is ignore them. They thrive on the publicity, gives them fuel for their paranoia filled fantasies of the "Jews in charge of everything are after them" and in this case there is no such thing as bad publicity.

They're media twerkers. Stop getting the vapours over these dinguses.

I've seen some Minneapolis local going apeshiat over this...

Mostly along the lines of "how dare anyone dress up like the Nazis"

because Jews, of course.

Well, how come no one throws such a hissy fit when people dress like confederate soldiers, because black?

I just don't get the double standard.

Ummm they're completely free to assemble any way they choose.

And we're completely free to ridicule them for those assemblies. The gov't isn't involved, so right to assembly does not apply.

Criticizing someone is the same as violating that person's constitutional rights.

I'm pretty sure what Astorix is saying, basically, is that by making a big-whoop out of stuff like this kind of turns the "poli-correct complainers" into hypocrites (a'la "don't do what I don't like").

They're not media twerkers.  The pictures were sent to a local paper by an ex-employee that only showed the Nazi portion of the re-enactors, but not the Americans, Italians, etc.  At least according to the owner of the restaurant:  http://www.kare11.com/story/news/local/2014/03/18/mpls-restaurant-host s-controversial-dinner/6593033/

They're not thriving on the publicity.
