Why risk poking the bear when there are other bordering states that don't have NATO membership?  Improve your position with the low-hanging fruit, then start to plan against the other nations with NATO backing.

Yeah it's dumb but it gives them an excuse to put all the robots in one geographic location where the pilots can interact and fight as a team making the movie more exciting.  Just like the giant robots designed to punch aliens in the face instead of better arm cannons like the one used in the very first fight or the bad ass sword that they never bother to use until it's really exciting to do so and the container ship wiffel bat (seriously those things are hollow and would fall apart if you tried to pick it up like that) they are all stupid plot points with the aim of making the movie more fun.

Nothing in that movie is logical. It's a hell of a lot of fun though.

I'm sure Poland was very confident about France and the UK coming to their aid if the Nazis invaded.

I'm not sure what Poland thought their allies could do. Few landing craft, no air superiority and if anything moved overland from France, it would have been through Germany and would have been cut-off and wiped out.

Yes it does, which is why the Baltics jumped up to become members as soon as they possibly could.  They remember what happened in 1940, and they knew their own militaries  couldn't hold off Russia on their own.

And now, seeing what happened to Ukraine (a non-member state), they're VERY happy they made that plunge so quickly.

Because he is supposed to be the face of Democracry and freedom, and he's a clown when it comes to foreign policy.  China and Russia have made him their biatch, and he (and all Democrats) claimed he was a master of foreign policy, far superior to his Republican opponent.

No, that's what your isolationist butt wants to happen.  You attack one NATO member, you attack them all.  That's the entire basis of what the alliance was founded on, and what's kept Western Europe quiet for the longest time in memory.

If you don't like it, invent a time machine and go back to the 40s and keep the United States from being a founding party of of the Washington Treaty.  As it is now, we have our obligations and we're going to keep them.

They built a wall that this Titan could apparently just climb over, and the guy has several of some kind of futuristic plasma-based weapon (or something that appears quite powerful) strapped to his back but he's holding... swords.  Swords long enough to barely pierce the first layer of skin on that Titan.

I don't think it was so much the wall they thought would help so much as those cannon looking things on top of the wall.

And maybe the wall was never designed to do anything except placate the people into feeling safe. Much like the TSA.

IIRC, they didn't expect the Germans to come through, and hoped to maintain their neutrality until Germany demanded they allow German troops passage. They didn't have a long enough lead time to do much fortifying.

In 2014, i kinda assumed that all the national boarders were pretty well set by now, much in part because growth in international trade (with multinational corporations at the helm) made national expansion less important.

Who needs borders when you have wire transfers and free trade agreements?

Eh. Almost.

Humanity has been reduced to a mere pittance of a few hundred thousand souls in a walled enclave about 150km in diameter (I don't have the wiki loaded here). This wall keeps out what has reduced humanity - titans - which measure between 5 and 40m tall.

Until one day a larger one appears.

The unit on the man's back is a gas-powered system that shoots steel braided cables that allow three-dimensional movement so that a man can get up to a titan's only weak spot - the back of its neck.

The rectangular items are extra blades for his swords, which tend to wear out.

If you don't hit the back of the neck, you can hack a titan apart and it will, over time, regenerate.

Technology seems to be frozen in pre-steam-engine Europe era, with the exception of the 3D gear.

It's an excellent series. Very dark. Very grim. A relentless series of gut-punches. 26 episodes animated, lots of manga (which is where the series began, as per usual) and it's so popular there have even been titans appearing in car commercials.

I believe you can find most of the episodes on Youtube. Highly recommended.
