Tuesday
Chelsea
vs
Galatasaray

I've got my money on Galatasaray for this round, and not just because I still have a grudge against Chelsea.

Real Madrid
vs
Schalke 04

Yeah, this match is so done that Madrid could send in their under 12 squad and still pull it off in the end. Only worth watching if you like to see people flogged.

Tomorrow:
Dortmund
vs
Zenit

With Dortmund leading 4-2 on Agg it would seem this is in the bag, but I'm calling for an upset here. Dortmund have been shaken, they started coming back again, but their loss to Moechengladbach showed that they are still not in top form, adding that to their over confidence in victory will be the downfall.

Man United
vs
Olympiacos
Many are call;ling for the ailing United to come back and take this one, I don't see it happening. I'm predicting the same score for the last one, ending in a total 0-4 on Agg.

2014-03-18 02:49:35 PM
Ancelotti's trotting out the youngsters for this match, so I'm still watching it.

On another front, apparently the reason for Messi demanding a 25 million euro per year salary is because of Neymar's contract, which presumably pays more than his.

Moyes smartly rested Cleverley, Valencia, and Young over the weekend so they will be ready to go tomorrow. I expect Olympiakos won't know what hit them.

In order: side-pass, aimless running and interpretative diving sequences combined with calamitous crossing.

Yeah that's a legit hairsplitter.  If Galatasaray score first it becomes interesting.

Thought Dortmund are inconsistent, Zenit are in chaos.  Spalletti was let go after "losing the dressing room"  and AVB was just named the new coach.

That's just ridiculous...Messi deserves it anyhow, but Barca made this mess themselves by letting Rossi indulge.

I just hope United fans keep supporting Moyes. It is going to be fun seeing what depths he can take the team to with another season in charge. Get rid of deadwood like Kagawa, Hernandez, and van Persie and bring in more players who fit his style like Andy Carroll or Stewart Downing.

Nah, he needs to bring in his training room examples. Bring on Jagielka. Just to drive every single defender insane with the comparisons.

The SAF/Moyes saga reminds me of my friend. Years ago, he met this girl and she had her nose pierced. She was pretty, so he talked to her a little bit and was struck by exactly how much like him she was. He said the she reminded him of himself when he was a teenager. I met her and she didn't remind me of him at all. He was a belligerent teenager, had a giant F*ck The World attitude (with the mohawk to confirm it) and was as wild a youth as there was. She wasn't.  The difference was that she might have been just as sullen as he was, but in his head, he saw the nose piercing and when they talked, he took her attitude and transformed it into what he thought it meant because she was hot.

That's sort of what this reminds me of. I think that SAF and Moyes can both agree on basic strategies and formations and player strengths, a general feeling on the media and how to handle situations, and SAF saw a lot in Moyes that made him think that Moyes was a logical extension to his style of managing.  But it's one thing to say you agree with a certain style of managing and a completely different thing to successfully execute it, in training, in games, in the dressing room.

Moyes will be gone at the end of the season. The pressure is too great and Moyes has done too little. Being nearly 20 points behind the leaders and 12 behind the last CL spot is too much halfway through March. He's lost the fans, and the pundits, and likely the dressing room. I think he's a pretty good coach who took too many missteps, tried to play it safe with a team that was built to play on its front foot, and stumbled too badly to recover.

Ah, hadn't heard about this. Interesting. Maybe both teams will just go out there and then be wallflowers the whole match :P

Given that it's Mourinho, he'll be complaining after the game that the referee and his assistants didn't defend stiffly enough.

Is the Chelsea match a parking lesson already? The Real-Schalke match is Schalke giving the ball away and Real doing crossing practice.

It's a bit 19th century at times, but Chelsea are at least trying to break when they can.

Cristiano makes it 1-0 after a very good low cross from Bale.

Morata had a very nice bit of possession and a crisp pass to beat the offside trap on that goal.

One of the many things I'm noticing already comparing to United is that, in the entire match against Liverpool, I don't remember United even TRYING to go down the middle. It was always down a flank.

Ah fark. 1-1 off a deflection.

More irritating is the fact that Jese's injury seems to be to his ACL. Fark you Schalke.

I had all this good feeling about them since Raul spent some time there after Real. That's all gone now.

The problem is that you view crosses as a low percentage play that more often than not cedes possession of the ball to the opponent. If like Moyes, you view every cross no matter how poorly executed as a goal scoring opportunity, you will see the wisdom of always attacking down the flank.

Chelsea look dangerous. I'm actually surprised they haven't scored more.

Still, it will make it all the more sweet when Utd known them out in the quarterfinals.

I feel really bad for Jese. Not only is he out for the Clasico, he's almost certainly out of the World Cup. There was increasing signs of him getting a spot on the squad with his run of form.

That's a shame. Although again, him being young is promising for future World Cups.

Every time I see Coentrao, I think: Why is he playing and not Marcelo? I've always found Marcelo to be a better option.

May as well; just rig it so it's Bayern/Real in the final, b/c nobody else really has that much of a chance.

Truthfully, the game on Sunday felt like Liverpool was playing West Ham. As jittery as 'pool can be on the back line, United gave them little worry about except for boring predictability. Rafeal & Rooney combined on a nice little play right before half, but that was it.

I mean, seriously, Agger spent the last 15 minutes of that game visibly concussed or something, and he wasn't a liability at all because he could stand there counting stars while Van Persie kept running offsides because service was late.

A motivated Barcelona have a decent chance against any team, and Atletico have already shown themselves capable of going toe to toe with the big boys this season. Also, Chelsea's ability to nick a goal and defend like the Spartans at Thermopylae cannot be taken for granted (see 2011-2012 CL campaign). PSG are a solid team, too, with the in-form player of the season in Zlatan and shouldn't be taken for granted. The only teams with no shot are Dortmund due to injury problems and Olympiakos/Man United.
