If you're a glass half full kind of guy, killing a taxi driver may not be first degree murder.

Well that settles it, then.  No cabbie-slaying in NOLA for this guy.

Of course to be fair the cab drivers here were arguing for the right to expose the passengers to the elements and biological waste.

Reminds me of signs on the trains in Philly.  Something to the effect of "Assaulting a SEPTA Operator is a Crime"

As if assaulting a passenger is not

something y'all might not be aware of: first degree murder in louisiana is a really big deal.  most other states' first degree murder is our second degree murder.  our first degree murder has more required elements than many other states.  and it carries the death penalty.

that's why it says that.  it's warning you that it, in addition to being second degree murder, it may be first degree murder.

I still think its kinda funny that its phrased that way.  The "may be" part made me laugh when I took a cab during Mardi Gras.

Might work out like reminding the children to not do sex, drugs, and rock and roll, right before the weekend did in the sixties.

They don't say not to kill the cab drivers; they just explain what the punishment might be if you do. If they explicitly said "Do not kill your cab driver" there are plenty of people down there who would take it as a challenge.

May be a felony, depending on what, the cabby's skin color? Religion? Choice, excess, or lack of aftershave?
