Exactly what tech support can you do on a Mac?  Businesses run on Windows and Linux.
Sorry, maybe it's a MacBook that he's reformatted with Windows.

I heard you liked computers...

Not to mention underneath the hood, every Mac is running BSD, so you are 100% POSIX compliant.

I'd call on Stephen Fry (Jeeves) for tech support. If he can't recover a document he'll rewrite it from scratch and win you an Oscar.

Meh. I had a powerbook with parallels installed earlier this year. It was okay enough, but frankly I did not like both the default mac user interface (It's certainly different, but I don't think it's actually better) and I didn't like having to re-learn various mac versions of shortcuts to get work done.

I mean, it LOOKED nice. But it was not as effective for me and was certainly overpriced compared to similar spec PC laptops.

Anyway, I've actually switched to a Surface Pro 2 for most of the day-to-day work that I do, and I use remote sessions to Linux or Windows machines to do more serious work. Maybe this is my windows showing, but it was actually far less traumatic for me to learn how to use Windows 8, with all it's hoary faults, than to try and learn how to use the MacBook.

/I did however enjoy being able to ssh into the mac, so there is that.

I always get stuck with Tech Support Dumbledore. He commiserates with my problem, babbles a lot of obvious and mostly unhelpful advice, then just sits around getting high while I'm forced to find my own solutions. Okay sure, by always having to solve my own issues I've become more skilled and capable, but I still can't help thinking that goldbricker is completely scamming his paycheck.

/The head office might finally be catching on to him. Yesterday in the company lunchroom, I overheard his office mate Snape muttering something about getting rid of him once and for all. About damn time if you ask me.

LOL, learning to use a MacBook is "traumatic" now? This is why I stay out of the Geek tab.

Well, obviously, he's a wizard.  He can probably run Angry Birds on his 1990s flip phone, too.

The gay people I know don't seem to have any higher rate of apple usage than the rest of the population.  Are you trying to use gay a a slur to make fun of people who use a different flavor of OS than you? Shouldn't you be getting ready for middle school?

That's what made me laugh when Windows NT came out.  It was POSIX compliant so that it could bid on government contracts.  Utterly useless, but POSIX compliant.

But I think you made my point.  Your picture implies that a Mac is useful because it can run a Windows VM.  A long time ago at a CCNA class, there was a Linux guy all happy because all of his clients were running Linux with Windows in a 'cage'.  I have to work using a Linux host OS running a Windows virtual machine to support my clients, because all of my clients run Windows!

I'm sure there are small environments where every client is also running a $2500 laptop MacBook and you can all support them natively.  But every large-scale implementation of *nix clients I've heard of uses Windows VMs on top of it.  Not because Windows is so great, but because Windows applications are dominant in business clients (not counting web apps).  This is why I hate Windows 8 and Metro so much.

Dammit, this is what tech support is like.  17-hour day, five hours of bad sleep and back in the saddle.  Running Windows.

Our techie cried when we switched back to windows. If you have the scratch, macs have everything you should need in one little box, with a warranty and support base. Seriously, get a Mini's. If you don't like them, throw something else on them, easily. Insanely easy to clone when they go pear shaped for some reason.

If you still don't like them, the resale value on a mac is sick.
